Travel|| Lakeland.

The hubby and I went to Lakeland to visit my childhood best friend and her boyfriend in November. Last year we visited them and were able to go to Harry Potter world at Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure. This time we chose the cheaper route and just hung out with them and did things around their town, which was still SO MUCH FUN! We are obsessed with Lakeland! It’s about 3-3.5 hour drive from us, so it was kind of like a mini road trip, which is always fun.

We have to drive through this little town called Lake Wales before getting to Lakeland. There is this place called “Spook Hill” in Lake Wales, so we decided to check it out.

So we attempted to try this, but we didn’t do it right so it ended up being really lame LOL! I think one of us was supposed to get out of the car to be able to see this happening, but we both stayed in the car, so we obviously didn’t notice HAHAH! We’ll do it again next time we go up there.

A couple of other pictures from Lake Wales on the way to Spook Hill. That view is so pretty.

When we first got to my friend’s house, we just sat around and talked. Pretty much just caught up and then talked about when we were kids. Poor Andy (hubby) had to listen to all of our old stories and everything, lol. She did my nails and then wanted to do my hair. So we did that until her boyfriend came home. Once he came home we went out to eat at this Mexican restaurant called Abuelo’s, which was so good! We also drank a little bit.

On Saturday during the afternoon my friend (Yanery), Andy, and I went on these little bicycle/walking trails and that was pretty fun.

The trails were kind of nerve-wracking at times, because there were some pretty steep hills to climb up and down. I don’t know how bicyclists do it, I would be scared as hell about it; especially because you are surrounded by water. In that water are alligators! In the wild…so no fences or cages to stop them from getting you if you mess with them!

SEEEE?! They are just out in the open. I was seriously scared I was going to slip and fall into the water or on top of one hahah. I also didn’t wear the right kind of shoes at all. I had my converse on. Had I known the trails were going to be like they were, I probably would have brought different shoes. We obviously survived though!

Here are a few more pictures from hiking on the trails!

After that we went home, showered, changed clothes and then went to Rocket Fizz. If you haven’t heard of it, Rocket Fizz is a store that sells a bunch of candy and different flavored sodas. We always like going there. Andy likes to get the soda and I like to get the salt water taffy. After Rocket Fizz we went to the Brass Tap for pizza and beer. Also a picture of a really BIG and awesome Christmas tree outside the shopping plaza that Rocket Fizz and Brass Tap were. I’m obsessed with Christmas trees.

After we ate and drank a few beers there, we decided to go to Beer Hub to try some more beers and then went back to the house. I’m a beer person and we like to eat, beer and food was a must for this trip. LOL.

Sunday was our last day, so in the morning we went to this little place called the Poor Porker for breakfast and then we headed home shortly after that. The Poor Porker was such a cool/cute little place. It’s a food truck that sells beignets. They call them “fluffy pillows of heaven” and they totally were.

There were a ton of succulents and cacti EVERYWHERE and there were so many different cool seating areas surrounding the food truck. It was such a neat place! I was taking pictures every thing! Here are a ton of pictures of The Poor Porker.

Suck a cool place, right? I’m pretty obsessed with it! They told us that they are going to start having live music there on Friday nights, so I can’t wait to get back to Lakeland and check it out one day. I bet the atmosphere at night will be just as cool as during the day. They sell beer and snacks at night in another indoor area, which is cool. Remember how I said I was obsessed with Christmas trees? Well of course I spot a HUGE Christmas tree across the street when we were leaving the Poor Porker. Can you guess where I ended up?

And that was our mini weekend vacation to Lakeland to visit my childhood best friend! It was so much fun hanging out, catching up, and seeing more of Lakeland. The last time we were busy in Orlando going to theme parks, so we didn’t get to see a whole lot. So this was really nice. We are both in LOVE with Lakeland and who knows what the future holds for that. 😛

I have a random picture post coming up soon. It’ll just be pictures I’ve taken over the last couple of months.

Travel|| Disney World.

I got unexpectedly super busy over the last almost two weeks, so of course I’ve been MIA from the blogosphere. What’s new though? I think I’m just generally a lot busier during the holidays, to be honest. I’ll talk about those things another time, because right now I am bringing you my Disney World post.

My cousin picked me up on Thursday night, because we were getting up super early the next day for Disney. I live two hours away from her and completely the opposite direction of Disney, so it made sense to get picked up the night before.

My cousin, her son, and I went to Disney on December 1st. Perfect way to start off the last month of the year, to be honest! The most magical place on Earth, right? They have this special Christmas celebration going on called Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and that is what we went to. It was at night, so I wasn’t able to get a ton of pictures. I was also enjoying myself, so taking a lot of pictures was least on my mind. I did somehow manage to get a MILLION pictures of Cinderella’s castle though. IT WAS SO PRETTY!

First stop, Disney Springs during the day before going to the actual Disney park. Disney Springs is basically just a bunch of restaurants and shops. It was still pretty neat and that was fun. We ate at T-Rex Cafe, which was really cool. It’s kind of like Rain Forest Cafe, only dinosaur themed. Not entirely sure where my T-Rex cafe pictures went, but they are MIA from my phone right now, SORRY! Here’s a cool picture of Mickey Mouse though! The right is a picture of myself and my cousin at the T-Rex cafe. It’s blue, because our seats were in the ice cave.

We had to do a shadow Minnie ears picture. It was a MUST. Also a picture of my Minnie ears with one of their Christmas trees too. I was pretty obsessed with my Minnie ears to be honest. 😛 We basically just walked around Disney Springs all day, ate, shopped, and then went back to the hotel until time for Magic Kingdom.

Okay, what you are about to see is a TON of pictures of Cinderella’s castle. You are warned! 😛

IT’S SO PRETTY, RIGHT? Well just wait until it gets dark outside, because HOLY CRAP! I’ve never seen anything more beautiful. You ready?

I am still so freaking obsessed with that castle every time I look at the pictures, seriously. BUT WAIT! It gets even better…because we need to throw in some fireworks!

The castle changed multiple times throughout the night. I didn’t get a picture of every single change, but above with the fireworks was one of the changes.

It “snowed” at Disney on Main Street. AKA bubbles, but still really cool! And a fun experience. You can also see another castle change in the first picture. The right is their main Christmas tree and decorations and the “SNOW”.

We also met Mickey Mouse and Jack Skellington. Mickey was so cute and nice and Jack Skellington was so cool.

Here are the Seven Dwarfs from the parade at the end of the night. They’re cute. I didn’t take a whole lot of pictures of the parade. I would have ended up with so many pictures and wouldn’t have been able to enjoy it as much. So I just wanted to enjoy the parade and kept my picture snapping to a minimum. It was also not that easy to get pictures when all the characters danced around so much, lol.

Last, but not least, all of the Mickey shaped FOOOOOD! I also had a Mickey shaped ice cream sandwich (not pictured) too, lol. They were also giving out cookies and hot chocolate for FREE all night and it was amazing.

We got back to her house on Saturday toward the end of the day, so I was able to get some cool sunset pictures. I was pretty exhausted after Disney, so we didn’t really do much besides relax. The next day we had to go to a birthday party for one of her son’s little’s friends. Her son is only three.

Picture of the sunset on the way back to her house on Sunday and then also a picture of the moon from Sunday night as well. 😀 I’m obsessed with taking pictures of sunsets and the moon.

That’s pretty much how my weekend went and it was so much fun! It was the perfect way to start off December. Side note: I plan to go back to Disney World ASAP during the day/non-event time, because while I did love the Christmas event, it would have been nice to experience a regular day at Disney and ride a ton of rides, take a ton of pictures, and meet more characters. I still had a lot of fun though.

I still have a couple other posts I need to work on, like my trip to Lakeland, which was almost a month ago. I also need to add all the pictures to my honeymoon post as well, which that happened back in May, OOPS! I want to try to get them done before the end of the year, especially my honeymoon post. I also want to do one more random picture post before the month ends of just random pictures I’ve taken throughout the last couple months.

That’s all for now though! I hope you enjoyed this post and in case you missed it…

Blog Changes.

I’ve been thinking a lot about blogging, the blogosphere, and especially my blog and I decided to make some changes and I really hope you stick around for them! Continue reading this post to learn more about it.

I had originally created a blog called “still pixels” for my photography and I have an Instagram account to go along with it as well. I like everything I did over there for the two weeks I was doing it, but I think juggling two blogs is difficult; especially when I neglect this one A LOT over the last year. With a new year coming I want to make some changes to the content on this blog.

With that being said, I am going to slowly make this blog be about all the things I like and not only books. It’ll also be where I talk about random things happening in my life. A little journal (ish) in a way. Also, kind of like how I was doing with my random picture posts that I’ve done over the last couple years, but there will be more of it; not just once in awhile.

I’m going to migrate some of the things that I posted on Still Pixels over to this blog as well, because I liked the content that I made and posted there; like the headers that I made from the pictures that I took. I’m not going to delete Still Pixels, because in the future I may want to try again with that blog. I’ll be leaving it active, but not updating it (for now). I’m leaving my Instagram account for Still Pixels (stillpixels_) active too, but not updating that right now either. I put that account to private for now.

I will still be updating about books here, but books may not necessarily be my main focus. I don’t plan to rename this blog or anything, because “Socially Awkward Bookworm” still portrays who I am as a person. I am still (and forever) socially awkward and I am still (and forever) a bookworm. There’s more to me than just books though, so I want to talk about and share those things too. I love blogging, but sometimes not always about books and I have no idea where else to put the things in my head.

I think that’s another reason why I’ve been pretty MIA in the blogosphere over the last year and a half. I don’t always want to blog about books, but this blog has always been centered around books and I felt like maybe it would have been wrong in some way to post other things besides book related things and the casual picture update. So I’ve slowly stepped away, I guess you can say. I don’t want to do that though, because I love having a place to put my thoughts and my pictures (other than Instagram).

BUT! With a new year approaching rather quickly, I decided I am going to embrace it and post whatever I want to post about; whether that be books, music, tv shows, traveling, photography, or anything else happening in my life. This will be a space for all of that and more. In life if things aren’t working out for you anymore, you change it, or leave it behind. I don’t want to do anything in life that isn’t going to make me happy.

“I’m so focused on my own energy right now and people misinterpret that. I’m not being distant. I’m just gravitating to the vibes that suit me.”

I want to live a life where I am happy with all of my choices and what I am doing and I want my blog to reflect that too. I want to live my life as stress free as humanly possible and if that means having to let some things or people go, then so be it. Life is too short to be anything other than happy and who you want to be. Life is too short to not have the things you want and do the things that you want to do. I’m all about good vibes and that’s the way I want to live my life always.

“I’m learning to be more calm and patient these days. Just can’t afford to let anything or anyone steal my happiness.”

“The more in harmony you are with the flow of your own existence, the more magical life becomes.”

There will still be TONS of talk about books too; no one will ever be able to take away my love for books and the need to talk about them. You’ll just get to see more into my life as well and that could be pretty fun. 🙂

Shattered California.

HI! 🙂

WARNING: I’m not entirely sure where to even begin this post, so it may possibly be all over the place and it will be picture heavy and kind of massive, because it was so hard choosing just a few pictures out of hundreds. It’ll be fun though! Lots to look at! 😀 Lauren (author of Shattered Blue) was having some book signins out in California and she invited me, Maren, Kristen (author of Blonde Eskimo), and Zoe (she makes amazing jewelry and did some pieces inspired by Shattered Blue) to come out! I was totally down, because I never been to California and I love Lauren, her book, and we’ve become such great friends and I wanted to be there to support her and help her out.

I left to California on March 4th and I was so stoked about it! The flights there were good. They actually seemed to go by pretty quickly most of the time. I actually enjoyed flying. I think the only scary parts were when the plane turned, because I had window seats every flight and you see the plane tipping to the side and that was scary LOL! Other than that I actually loved it and I love window seats. I was obsessed with taking pictures.

Goodbye Florida

My first flight landed in Phoenix and then from there we left to the San Jose airport! Lauren and Ninja (her pup) picked us up at baggage claim and she was holding the best sign ever LOL. This below picture was taken when we were flying over Phoenix and about to land at the airport to catch our next flight to San Jose.

The sign. 😛 It says “Shattered Blue Book Rides. The Comedian & The Pizza Criminal” and then the other sign is one that was on our bedroom door when we got to the house. Funny & cute. Lauren scored a bunch of Supernatural swag for Maren and I from the CW since she works with the CW. Kristen also gave me some Supernatural stuff for my birthday!

Can we please just appreciate the awesome-ness of my Dean Winchester pillow? It’s actually even bigger, because you get all of his legs too. LMAO 😛

Oh just cuddling with my boy. 😛

I thought it was going to be kind of awkward meeting her, but it turned out fine. I’m sure talking every day since November helped with that. We also waited for Kristen too since she landed shortly after I did. They were both so nice. We got there a couple hours earlier than everyone else. Maren and Zoe showed up later and that was fun! We ordered pizza and they all got me birthday cakes! Two ice cream cakes, which was so nice of them and a nice surprise. My birthday was the day before the trip. We also played Cards Against Humanity, which was fun. That was basically our first day there. Andy (the fiance – I need to get used to saying this now since I’m so used to “the boyfriend” LOL) was sick the first night, so he went to sleep early.

The next day (a Saturday) we went around San Francisco. The weather was kind of crappy the entire weekend (rainy and cold). It was still really fun though. We walked around San Francisco and we did the Alcatraz tour, which was cool. It was awesome seeing the prison and taking the tour of it. We got to listen to a tour and things all about the prison on little old school headsets, lol! We also went out to eat at this really cool cafe called Buena Vista Cafe. They are known for their Irish coffee and they have this cool thing where they sit you with strangers, lol. We talked to some cool dudes at our table. Well it was their table until we all took it over, but they were really nice.

Sunday we visited the Stanford college campus and walked around there. It was actually pretty awesome and the buildings were amazing. They even had little totems all over the campus, which I loved.

After that we walked around Menlo Park for a bit before Lauren’s book signing. We ate lunch and went to little older book store to look around. Sadly I did not find any books that I wanted, but there were so many books that I think I got overwhelmed, lol. Lauren’s book signing a the book store Kepler’s. The turn out was awesome and it was fun seeing her talk about her book and sign some books for everyone. We all helped out with that and were there to support her. Zoe showed her jewelry that she made inspired by the book. After the signing we all went home to get ready to go to dinner. We all went to this really nice Chinese place and the food was so amazing. That was everyone’s last night, so that was sad. It was so amazing being able to hangout with everyone and meet everyone.

Top right: Maren, Lauren, and I.
Ashley & Maren selfie thrown in there too.

Left to right: Ethan (Maren’s husband), Zoe, Lauren, Kristen, Andy, Me, Maren.

Andy and I stayed a bit longer in California. We helped Lauren and Zoe a lot on the rest of Lauren’s book tour. She talked to kids at a bunch of local schools. Andy and I helped set things up, pass out swag, and took videos and pictures for her. We went out to eat at this one place that gave me a HUGE chicken pot pie, lol. It was so good! Zoe, Lauren, Andy, and I also played Scatagories and that was fun.

Book signing fun!

The day before we left (March 9th) we spent the day in Monterey Bay for Lauren’s birthday. We walked around sight seeing, taking pictures, and we reenacted some of the things from Lauren’s book since it takes place in Monterey. We also go to go to the aquarium, which was so fun. I love aquariums. We seen lots of otters, fish, and penguins. I was a huge fan of the jellyfish. I also got to touch a stingray!

ANDDDDD….as you guys know, Andy asked me to marry him at the aquarium! 🙂 I was pretty surprised and didn’t see it coming. I had thoughts about it a couple weeks leading up to the trip because he was being weird before the trip, but then I just pushed them aside, so I wasn’t really expecting it at all. Later I found out that I almost ruined it a couple times LOL! The first being there was this whale watching tour and I really wanted to go on it. I guess his plan was to ask me at the aquarium and taking a whale watching tour would have ruined it. And then Lauren was telling us that she had to go Skype one of the lady’s at a school she was doing a signing for, so I told Andy that we could go look at the gift shop. Turns out the outside Skype call was code for us to go outside too, so he could ask me. LMAO! So yeah, I almost ruined it. Andy talked me out of the whales and the gift shop. HAHA.

Lauren and Maren designed these shirts for Andy and I. So nice of them!

That was our last day in California. At 4am the next day we got into a car and went straight to the airport. Our flight was at 7am, but we wanted to get there early.

Goodbye California

I already miss California so much and I miss everyone! We definitely need to make it a yearly thing, haha. Here are some miscellaneous pictures that I took.

Close to arriving in Florida again.

That pretty much sums up my trip to California. It was one amazing and epic trip. Made so many new memories and got to meet some awesome people that I know I will be friends with for a very long time. I have to thank the blogosphere for this too. If I never created a blog, I would have never met some amazing people and gotten this chance! Taking this trip also made me realize how much I love traveling and I need to make an effort to do more of it! There are so many places I want to go and see. 🙂 I know this is a pretty long post, so big high five to those of you that actually got through it all! 😛

I have a busy weekend of cleaning and wedding stuff, so I better get to it! I also hope to go see Allegiant today. I am so stoked for it even though I wasn’t too thrilled with the trailer and what it looks like. I still hope it’s a good movie.

I hope you all have an amazing weekend!
