Stuck…where do I go from here?

“stop holding on, if it’s holding you back, then let it go; your grass will always be the greenest if you let it grow” 🌼🐝🌿

This is one of my favorite pictures that I’ve taken recently. You can find cool picture opportunities anywhere! Example: I took this photo in the garden section of Home Depot, lol. I’m going to do a series of picture posts; I have a ton of pictures to share. I went to upload them all into one post and it ended up being 60+ pictures, so I decided I’ll break it up into multiple posts instead. I’m going to start working on those this week, so that by next week I can start posting them.

Other than these posts, I’ve been feeling a little bit stuck in terms of my blog, my bookstagram, and essentially my life as well.  I am trying to get back into bookstagram, but I have no idea what kind of pictures to post and what theme I want to go for. When I first started my bookstagram I had so many ideas and I was having a lot of fun with it. I guess since I haven’t really been doing it consistently over the last couple years, I forgot and lost my creativity with that. With the blog, I’m not sure what kind of content I should post. It’s kind of frustrating!

I think when I start to feel uninspired is usually when I quit things and I don’t want to quit blogging! I actually really love it and love all the friends I’ve made and continue to make every day, but sometimes I feel like I’m boring everyone with the same content over and over again. You know, it’s not even just blogging and bookstagram. I have an online journal that I write about things happening in my life (it’s more of personal journal and I’ve been using it since I was in high school) and I really have nothing to write in my own personal journal either.

I think it has more to do with how I’ve been feeling about myself lately. I have all of these negative feelings (and thoughts) about myself over the last 3-4 months that I’ve never had before. It’s so weird experiencing this because I used to always think so highly of myself. Now I question whether that was even real or if I was pretending/lying to myself all my life. The end months of 2019 messed with my self-confidence and shattered who I thought I was. I only feel like a fraction of who I was before and that scares me! I want to get back to my old self, where I was always positive and always happy. I want to get out of this negative headspace. Some days I think I am finally out of it and then others I feel right back in there. Sigh.

I’ve been obsessed with this song “Hangnail” by Rationale. I feel like I relate to it a lot lately. I just feel down about myself and my life these days. Here’s the song if you’re interested: https://youtu.be/O9sTYRUkSHc

“I wish I had this poetic poise, an articulate finesse.
I’m too clumsy and the words escape me.
I’m hazy and any passing thought can displace me.”

I think this negative headspace; these thoughts and these feelings are pouring into everything in my life, including blogging. I think this is where so much of my “stuck” feeling comes from too. Maybe I can Google search some ideas for both bookstagram and my blog and see what I can come up with! I did bookmark an awesome blog post from Kelly from Another Book in the Wall about “how to blog when you haven’t read anything new“, so I may also go back and reference her post to get some ideas as well. Anything you guys want to see on my blog? It doesn’t have to be book related!

Photo A Day|| January 22-31 & GIVEAWAY WINNER!

photoaday1

Hi!

I’ve been taking part in monthly photo a day challenges on my Instagram account (heyyitsashley) and I’ve been having a lot of fun with them (when I don’t fall behind on pictures). I figured I would also cross post them to my blog as well. I think for the purpose of blogging, I will post 3-4 per blog post that I do throughout the month. That way I am not spamming my blog with a million photo a day posts back to back. You can follow me on Instagram (linked above) if you want to see them daily though! Some of these pictures will be taken with my Nikon. There will also be some taken  with my iPhone X.

I skipped quite a few days. I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to take pictures of, didn’t have older backup pictures, or I just completely forgot about them. Here are the rest of the pictures for the challenge though. This post will also contain more pictures than the usual four. I want to get all of them up since it’s now February.

Days 22-31 of January

Thalassophile: A lover of the sea, someone who loves the sea/ocean. I am kind of obsessed with this ocean shot. I got a couple more really awesome ones too, but I’ll share them another day.

Day 25: My morning view.

Random view outside of my house. I was walking my dog Dax before work and decided to snap a picture of the sky, because it looked really pretty that day.

Day 26: Thank you for…
Instagram Caption: i have been waiting YEARS for this day. words cannot even express how happy i was when the dangerous summer said they were back! i am so stoked for their new album that’s finally here! 🖤🎵
Camera: Nikon.

What my caption says! THE DANGEROUS SUMMER HAS A NEW ALBUM OUT NOW!! Their last album was in 2013, because they broke up. When I heard they were getting back together, I was beyond so stoked! THEN their album was finally released and it was EVERYTHING I ever hoped it would be and more. I’ve listened to it at least 20+ times on repeat and I listened to it at least once all the way through every day since it came out. IT’S SO DAMN GOOD! AND ALL THE FEELS, HOLY CRAP!! GO LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM or at least listen to Color and Luna; those two are my absolute favorite. But I swear, every single song is on point and amazing. You will feel things.

Day 28: Text.
Instagram Caption: i am pretty stoked to read this. 📖🖤
Camera: iPhone.

I seen this book floating around a little bit and honestly, it’s perfect for me. I am really stoked to read it. Hopefully I get around to it really soon. Currently have a ton of books on my immediate TBR though, because my library decided it would be cool to check out all my e-book holds to me at one time. I would recheck them out later, but a lot of them were holds that I’ve been waiting on for a long time.

Day 29: Magic.

DISNEY WORLD. I NEED TO GO BACK! I used an older picture for this day, because I honestly had no idea what to take a picture of for “magic” and HELLOOOO….DISNEY IS FULL OF MAGIC!

Day 30: Secret.
Instagram Caption: adventure. 🌲
Camera: Nikon.

This is also an older picture I don’t think I ever posted anywhere. The hubby and I went to this really cool nature trail park last year. I want to go back, because I don’t think we were able to walk all the trails. There were several different ones.

Starting a new monthly challenge today for February! Hopefully I can actually complete an entire month without skipping. 😛

Now for the person that won my giveaway! I actually decided to pick TWO winners.

Kelly from Another Book in the Wall

I will have more giveaways in the near future, so don’t worry if you didn’t win this time! It was fun to do this giveaway and I am stoked to do another  one soon. 😀

New Year, New Blog.

blogchanges

Happy New Year!

** You may have seen this exact same blog post below back in November, but I am posting it again just in case you missed it and because it’s the new year and I planned to make some new changes to my blog, which I have been trying to incorporate more toward the end of 2017. I will also have another post coming soon of some goals that I hope to accomplish in the new year as far as blogging, reading, and regular life goes. I am going to also post my Goodreads 2017 challenge stats, fave books I read in 2017, and my challenge for 2018. So, be on the look out for those posts coming this week. **

I’ve been thinking a lot about blogging, the blogosphere, and especially my blog and I decided to make some changes and I really hope you stick around for them! Continue reading this post to learn more about it.

I had originally created a blog called “still pixels” for my photography (side note; I am not a pro-photographer or anything like that. I just like taking pictures and sometimes they come out pretty awesome.) and I have an Instagram account to go along with it as well. I like everything I did over there for the two weeks I was doing it, but I think juggling two blogs is difficult; especially when I neglect this one A LOT over the last year. With a new year here, I want to make some changes to the content on this blog.

With that being said, I am going to slowly make this blog be about all the things I like and not only books. It’ll also be where I talk about random things happening in my life. A little journal (ish) in a way. Also, kind of like how I was doing with my random picture posts that I’ve done over the last couple years, but there will be more of it; not just once in awhile.

I migrated some of the things that I posted on Still Pixels over to this blog as well, because I liked the content that I made and posted there; like the headers that I made from the pictures that I took. I’m not going to delete Still Pixels, because in the future I may want to try again with that blog. I’ll be leaving it active, but not updating it (for now). I’m leaving my Instagram account for Still Pixels (stillpixels_) active too, but not updating that right now either. I put that account to private for now.

I will still be updating about books here, but books may not necessarily be my main focus. I don’t plan to rename this blog or anything, because “Socially Awkward Bookworm” still portrays who I am as a person. I am still (and forever) socially awkward and I am still (and forever) a bookworm. There’s more to me than just books though, so I want to talk about and share those things too. I love blogging, but sometimes not always about books and I have no idea where else to put the things in my head.

I think that’s another reason why I’ve been pretty MIA in the blogosphere over the last year and a half. I don’t always want to blog about books, but this blog has always been centered around books and I felt like maybe it would have been wrong in some way to post other things besides book related things and the casual picture update. So I’ve slowly stepped away, I guess you can say. I don’t want to do that though, because I love having a place to put my thoughts and my pictures (other than Instagram).

BUT! With a new year (HELLO, 2018!) here I decided I am going to embrace it and post whatever I want to post about; whether that be books, music, tv shows, fandoms, traveling, photography, or anything else happening in my life. This will be a space for all of that and more. In life if things aren’t working out for you anymore, you change it, or leave it behind. I don’t want to do anything in life that isn’t going to make me happy.

“I’m so focused on my own energy right now and people misinterpret that. I’m not being distant. I’m just gravitating to the vibes that suit me.”

I want to live a life where I am happy with all of my choices and what I am doing and I want my blog to reflect that too. I want to live my life as stress free as humanly possible and if that means having to let some things or people go, then so be it. Life is too short to be anything other than happy and who you want to be. Life is too short to not have the things you want and do the things that you want to do. I’m all about good vibes and that’s the way I want to live my life always.

“I’m learning to be more calm and patient these days. Just can’t afford to let anything or anyone steal my happiness.”

“The more in harmony you are with the flow of your own existence, the more magical life becomes.”

There will still be TONS of talk about books too; no one will ever be able to take away my love for books and the need to talk about them. You’ll just get to see more into my life as well and that could be pretty fun. 🙂

Creative Blogger Award & Stuff.

img_3267

Hey! 🙂 I was nominated for the Creative Blogger Award by Rachael at Reading Rachael. Thank you again for the nomination! Definitely go check out her blog!

The Rules:

  • Nominate 15-20 blogs and notify all nominees via their social media/blogs
  • Thank and post the link of the blog that nominated you (very important)
  • Share 5 facts about yourself to your readers
  • Pass these rules on to them

I’ve been nominated for other awards that have wanted me to give facts about myself. Trying to come up with some more facts that I haven’t mentioned before is always hard. Let’s see if I can do this. It’s only five, so maybe it won’t be as hard? lol 🙂

The Facts:

ONE: I have a horrible memory. I keep a journal and have for about 11-12 years and when I go back to read it, I have no memory of anything I wrote happening to me or things I did. I also remember very little of my childhood. If someone mentions something I did or what I was like, I really have no clue what they are talking about. I also can’t remember most of what happens in the books that I read once I finish and move on to a new book. It’s one of the most annoying things I have to deal with.

TWO: I am currently obsessed with bagels from Starbucks and I get one every single Monday. I used to do it four times a week, but it started to become costly, so I decided to make Monday Starbucks Monday. I’ve never missed one in about six months.

THREE: Since we are talking about Starbucks, I guess I should tell you that I don’t like coffee. I also don’t understand how coffee wakes people up or gives them energy. The times I have drank it (which is seriously like once or twice a year), it makes me want to instantly go to sleep. I will literally be falling asleep at my desk at work after I drink it.

FOUR: I don’t like staying at other people’s houses overnight. When my family goes back to Cape Coral (some more of my family live there) to visit, I never go with. Staying at other people’s houses just really bugs me and gives me anxiety. I like being at my own house, among my own things, and in my own bed. I think the only times I ever really go overnight is if my boyfriend and I stay overnight at his parents’ house. Even that is kind of awkward for me even though him and I been together 7.5 years and I love his parents so much!

FIVE: I love Cherry Coke. It’s my favorite soda and usually what I always get. It’s totally heaven and if heaven was real, it would be in my heaven. Every faucet, every lake, every ocean, would just be Cherry Coke. It’s perfect. Remember that time when Percy Jackson ordered Cherry Coke? Yeah…he totally had the right idea.

In all its goodness.

IMG_4604

Coming up with new facts was kind of hard! I guess there really isn’t much to me? I like the little things, mostly. I also don’t ever really do much except read and watch my TV shows. At least most of the time, anyway. I’m simple. I always have been. I do want to travel the United States (and eventually the rest of the world). SAVE SAVE SAVE!

The nominations:

I didn’t check beforehand if you have already been nominated for this and have done it, so feel free to ignore if you have or if you want to do it again, that’s cool too. 🙂

So I mentioned it a few times that I was seeing Taking Back Sunday and they played with The Menzingers (which I love) and letlive. (which I wasn’t too big a fan of their performance). The concert was great and Taking Back Sunday and the Menzingers played so many songs and all that I loved. I love concerts so much and I am thinking of getting tickets to see The Story So Far again. I’ve already seen them three times, but I love them so much and they are so great live.

Taking Back Sunday. I love this venue, because they have a bar. So I chill back by the bar and drink beer and listen to my favorite bands. It’s so perfect!

IMG_5007

All the excitement. 😀

 IMG_5077

I finally got my new debit card, but I am having some issues as a whole with my bank right now, which is totally lame. I did buy this app that was recommended to me called ReadMore and it times you as you read and at the end it gives your reading patterns, how many pages you read and how many are left, how long you read, random other stats, and also if you read at the same pace how long it would take you to finish the book. It’s pretty neat so far and I was able to actually read a lot more of Dorothy Must Die. I only have 166 pages left in the book! I hope I finish it this week, so I can try to start Throne of Glass. I’m really hoping that this app helps me out of my reading slump or I hope finishing this book does. I don’t want to force it, but I also don’t want to just not read. I started to listen to Linger again today and was actually starting to find interest in it, so that’s a good thing. I’ll have it finished by tomorrow and then I’ll probably jump back on to listening to Beautiful Chaos, before it gets returned back to the library.

Here are just some random pictures I’ve taken and then I am off to find something on TV until the boyfriend gets home. He is bringing Taco Bell home, which I am totally excited about. I am STARVING!

Enjoy the little things: pretty flowers, reading by the pool, and ring pops – one of the greatest parts of being a kid, or a grown up kid. Ring pops are good at any age, especially now that they have tons more flavors now than they did when I was a kid.

IMG_4877IMG_5017IMG_5018

And this is my side of the bedroom, which is totally colorful and FULL of stuff! I love stuff, lol. You can see my furbabies in there too. They like my side of the room. I actually have the side of the room that has the most space, because I have so much stuff. Remember awhile back when I said the majority of the stuff in my boyfriend and I’s apartment was mine? Yeah…totally true statement.

IMG_5078

Holy massive post, right? I probably should have saved some pictures for another post. OOOPS! This post is fun though and maybe even full of some creativity? It is the creative blogger award. 😉 I really should go now though. It’s Monday, so that means Bates Motel and The Following and ahhhhh! I read too much and watch too many television shows. Total fangirl when it comes to fictional anything though. Rambling again. I need to shut up, but before I do, you can check out my last post over here – reading slump chump. bye! ❤

Versatile Blogger Award.

versatile-blogger

Hey 🙂 I’ve been nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award by drizzle and hurricane books! Thank you so much for the nomination! I love your blog! Everyone should go check it out! 🙂 I’ve already been nominated for this before, but I don’t mind doing it again. You can check out my other post over here.

How does it work?
1. Nominate 15 other bloggers relatively new to blogging
2. Let the bloggers know that you’ve nominated them
3. Share 10 random facts about yourself
4. Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their blog
5. Add the Versatile Blogger Award picture to your post

The hard part since I have already done this, is coming up with 10 new facts! So, let’s see if I can do this! I should know about myself, right? 😉

1: I love nail polish. I have about 80 bottles of nail polish and anytime I go to Walgreen’s (which is one of my favorite stores, lol), I end up buying more. One of my cousins bought me a nail polish rack for dogsitting for her and now I can display my nail polish. My nail polish rack below:

IMG_4330

2: I love pop punk music and going to concerts. I love music just as much as I love books, so I spend a lot of money on concert tickets and books. Some of my favorite bands: The Story So Far (seen them 3 times), Real Friends (seen them 2 times), Neck Deep (seen them 3 times in just one year, lol), Knuckle Puck (seen them 2 times), The Summer Set (seen them 2 times). I also seen SO many other amazing bands live. New Found Glory being one of my favorites to see live. Next month I am seeing Taking Back Sunday again. First picture: The Story So Far and second picture: Brian from The Summer Set.

IMG_7069IMG_1217

3: I am obsessed with TOMS (shoes). I have so many pairs of them and I actually just ordered a new pair last night and I am so excited to get them. I even got my boyfriend obsessed with them. We probably have TOMS thrown everywhere around our home.

4: I am addicted to Pinterest. I could spend hours on there and every time I pick up  my phone, I go straight to the Pinterest app first. I am constantly rearranging my pins and my boards. I am so proud of my Pinterest that I force my boyfriend to look at all the pins I’ve pinned, lol.

5: I’ve been with my boyfriend for almost seven and a half years. It’s kind of crazy that we have been together so long. It doesn’t at all feel like it’s been that long and that’s the amazing part of it. We are huge geeks, so it works out perfectly. We met at a grocery store we both worked at and have been together ever since. This picture is from New Year’s last year from a party at a local bar. And we’re that couple that has matching shirts. One happens to be Doctor Who. 🙂

IMG_0383IMG_6444

6: I am still a kid at heart. I love playing video games on my 3DS (especially Pokemon and Animal Crossing) and I love coloring. I have tons of crayons, markers, and coloring books. I also hate sharing my crayons and markers, lol. I’m always paranoid that someone will use them all up or break the crayons. hahah.

7: I have no idea how to cook. My boyfriend does all the cooking. I can make macaroni and cheese though! That’s about it. I do however make the best sandwich. Other than that, I am pretty useless in the kitchen. I really want to learn though, because my food boards on Pinterest are constantly calling my name.

8: I love the beach, but I don’t like getting in the water. I am paranoid about sharks and stuff, but I love sharks, lol. I usually just put my feet in the water and that’s about it, lol. I don’t even like going in pools though. We have a pool at our house, but I never use it.

IMG_2217

9: I love holidays and birthdays, because I love giving gifts. I take pride in my gift giving ability, lol. I always find the perfect gifts for everyone and I love seeing everyone’s face when they receive them. It’s probably one of my favorite feelings and things to see.

10: And for number ten I leave you with the song that I am currently obsessed with right now. I am actually on and off obsessed with this song. I’ll listen to it forever and then when I can finally get myself to stop and move on, I always end up coming back to it a few months later and I am now back on it. It’s just SO good and so relatable. Something’s Keeping Me Here by Real Friends.

I am currently jamming the hell out of it right now on repeat. You would probably be laughing at me if you seen me right now. Here is a good visual/example:
JAM OUT SUPER

I tag everyone for the Versatile Blogger Award if you haven’t done it already or if you want to do it again, that’s cool too! I would love to get to know everyone and read your post. If you decide to do it or have done it already, link me to your post in the comments. 🙂 Starting back tomorrow with the 30 day book challenge and I have a post lined up for The Glass Arrow. I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Razorland Series.

Hi 🙂

I’m back! I did a post this morning for Top Ten Tuesday with my all-time favorite books, but now I’m back to post my day two for the 30 day book challenge.

Day 02: A book or series you wish more people were reading and talking about.

7137327153629921019306210596724

Razorland trilogy. I read these books back in 2012-2013 and I personally didn’t see much talk about them then or now. Enclave, Outpost, and Horde are the main three books in the series; Endurance was a side book in the series about what happened with other characters after Enclave.

I personally loved this series so much and it’s one of my top favorite series. I was randomly looking for books to read on Kindle and I came across Enclave because it happened to be free at the time, so of course I read it. It sounded interesting enough and it was free, so why not. I wasn’t expecting too much because I figured if it was free, was it really going to be THAT good? I really liked it and it only got better.

I loved the whole concept of the story and I loved the characters in the book. I loved that Ann Aguirre explained things so well that it was easy to visualize things and there were times that I got kind of grossed out (because of the monsters aka “Freaks”), because they were explained so well. It’s hard to talk about it without giving a lot away in case anyone wants to read, but it was interesting throughout all the books how the Freaks changed and developed.

AWESOME SUPER

I wish that more people were reading and talking about it because it really is a great series, especially if you like dystopia. Of course that’s my own personal opinion, though.

Goodreads for Enclave: “New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20’s. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters–or Freaks–who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight–guided by Fade’s long-ago memories–in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs.”

Have you read the Razorland Trilogy? If so, what did you think about it? Is there any books that you wish more people were reading?

Unrelated: I mentioned in my post from earlier that today was my birthday. Well, my boyfriend bought me the cork board and whiteboard I wanted and I am pretty excited about it. My older sister got me a shirt that has Karl Pilkington (from An Idiot Abroad) on it and I am in love with it. I also got some really cute balloons from my younger sister. I went to Target after work and bought two books that I’ve been wanting to read and one I’ve had on my TBR list since 2013 and I bought some cute pens and more cute paper clips and thumbtacks, lol. I am pretty much a geek and get excited about weird stuff.

I’ve had Cinder on my TBR list since 2013 and I’ve been really wanting to read Red Queen. 🙂 Not entirely sure when I will get around to them, but hopefully if not this month then for sure April. Anyway, this is long enough and I am starving. The boyfriend made homemade pizza rolls for dinner, YUM! BYE! ❤

Concert withdraws.

I am having major concert withdraw today! I usually have at least four concerts lined up by now. I am pretty excited about Tuesday though, because I plan on buying Taking Back Sunday tickets and Of Mice & Men/Crown the Empire tickets. Both shows are in April. I’ve seen them all before, but I love them so much.

I buy concert tickets like I buy books; I can’t stop. 😉

At the end of last year I seen Knuckle Puck (second time seeing them) and I have been playing their music on repeat for months since then. I was jamming out to them in the car today and it made me have major withdraws. I am craving a good pop punk show though. I’ve had this song on repeat this morning.

What are some of your favorite music artists/bands? What was a favorite concert you’ve been to?

Enjoy 🙂

Here we go again!

I completely fail at keeping up with my blog! I never really had a set theme for this blog, so it was easy to fall off the face of the earth when it comes to this. I also got further sucked into my books and of course, Netflix! I have spent the last couple months watching Supernatural with the boyfriend, so that has taken up a good amount of my time. We are both currently obsessed with it almost as much as we are with Doctor Who! We still have about four seasons to go with Supernatural.

Anyway, here I am once again! This time I have a plan and I hope I stick with it. I am in love with books and I have already read five books just this month. I came across some book reading challenges and I figured that I would make this blog about books! It’ll be fun to talk about books and share books that I love and give reviews. I just finished Water for Elephants today and I absolutely loved it! More on that another time though. 🙂

I also plan to post about music and reviews on that; share some of my favorite bands and talk about concerts I’ve been to or plan to go to. Last year I went to about seven concerts! I will probably also post pictures I take. I love taking pictures and sharing them. I religiously use Instagram on a daily basis. It’s probably all I use other than Pinterest (which I am beyond addicted to) and Goodreads. Links to all in the About the Blog section.

Hopefully I’ll get to my 642 Things to Write About book too. A lot of the topics seem fun and will definitely challenge me and push my mind and creativity to places I’ve never gone before. I’m not the greatest writer in the world, but it’ll help me to get better at it. Who knows! I mostly prefer to be on the other side of writing; the countless hours of reading.

So there’s that. I’ll probably go through some of the book challenge topics over the weekend and set up a better plan for it. I also want to look up some other book and music questions that I can answer and share in here too. There may also be random blog posts about random things. Right now I don’t have a working computer, so I’m using my iPhone or my iPad. It’ll make things difficult, but that’s life.

Off to lose myself in another book! I am currently reading the first Harry Potter book. I actually have never read any of the books or seen any of the movies. I feel like everyone in the world has, except me. Better late than never? 🙂

Total Fail!

So I totally failed with finishing the June writing challenge 😦

I blame binge watching OITNB and reading the Maze Runner series.

No excuses though.

I don’t think I’ll be finishing the rest of the days since June is over and I don’t want to go back.

I’m going to start looking through my copy of “642 Things To Write About” and begin writing posts from there. I mentioned it in May and haven’t gotten around to it.

Be on the lookout for those! 🙂 I’ll leave you with a song I can’t stop listening to by a band I am totally in love with now and a random favorite picture I’ve taken in June – actually two because I had two favorite pictures I took.
