30 Day Book Challenge // Day Ten.

Hi 🙂

I am so glad it is Friday! I am looking forward to a weekend of catching up on sleep and reading. The work week went by really fast, but it was also really busy at work. I definitely got overwhelmed a lot with work this week and took it out on my books by not reading as much as I usually do. Earlier today I did my Friday Finds post and you can check it out over here in case you missed it. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a post about some of the books I added to my to be read list this week. 🙂 Onto day ten…

Day 10: Favorite childhood book.

Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar. I loved this book as a kid. It was so fun and filled with so many amazing things! I remember one of my teachers  would read a chapter to us every week from this book. It was one of the greatest parts of going to school as a kid. I still think Mrs. Gorf is scary! I sadly don’t remember exactly everything in the book, because it has been SOOOOOO long since I have read it. I am going to do a reread of it; I want to relive part of my childhood and the book is so great. I think every kid should read this book or every parent should read this book to their kids! I still have a copy of it and I have to be careful with the pages, because it’s so old. I love it though. 🙂

Last year I read the first chapter of this book to my niece and nephew, because I wanted them to experience this amazing book. I took this picture last year of my nephew Jackson. He was totally into the book and it was a proud moment for me, lol.

  • You can also check out my day nine post about a book I didn’t think I would like, but ended up loving over here.

Mary Poppins.

Goodreads Description: “From the moment Mary Poppins arrives at Number Seventeen Cherry-Tree Lane, everyday life at the Banks house is forever changed. It all starts when Mary Poppins is blown by the east wind onto the doorstep of the Banks house. She becomes a most unusual nanny to Jane, Michael, and the twins. Who else but Mary Poppins can slide up banisters, pull an entire armchair out of an empty carpetbag, and make a dose of medicine taste like delicious lime-juice cordial? A day with Mary Poppins is a day of magic and make-believe come to life!”

Yesterday I was looking for a short read (well listen), so I seen Mary Poppins and decided that would be the one. It also seemed like a fun book to get me through half of the day at work. I also really love the movie, so why not?

Reading the book made me realize that the movie is completely wrong in so many ways. I feel like if I read this book before ever seeing the movie, I would have absolutely hated the fact that it was so different. It’s also said that the movie is based on the first four books in the series, so I may read those at some point.

I only gave the book 3 stars because well, I’m so used to the movie (and love it so much) and it annoyed me that they were so different. I didn’t hate the book and it was pretty enjoyable, just not completely. Even Mary Poppins was portrayed differently in the movie than in the book. I can see why it had to be different in some ways though, so I’m not being completely unfair.

BUT! I love Mary Poppins (the movie) and probably always will. I grew up watching that on repeat a million times a day. The book was good and I’m sure a lot of people would love it. It’s just hard to fall in love with something that you’ve seen differently for so many years. It was a great short read though. I’m glad I decided to read it.

And on a random note: I am beyond tired. My furbabies woke me up at 6am to be fed and the pup to be walked. Thankfully the boyfriend did all that for me. He usually does on the weekends. I still haven’t been back to sleep though because my kitten (I still can’t bring myself to call him a cat) has been jumping on and off me all morning. He’s also been carrying around his ribbon toy and it’s kind of annoying. It’s loud because the end is plastic. He cries if you take it away, so I decided to just let him have it. He’s spoiled. Both my kitten and my dog are.

I would suck as a mom, lol. I’m glad kids are not in my plan for my life; not that I even have a plan. I don’t make plans or things like that and because of that, I am a lot happier. I’ve come to realize that life is so much easier when you’re not worried about future things or not accomplishing goals you set. I just live my life day by day and take things as they come. I never let too much bother me because there’s no use in that.

Anyway, I might try to get some more sleep before the boyfriend gets home from work. We have a Valentine’s date with the library and a new Goodwill. 🙂 I hope you all have a great weekend and Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤

What books have you read that became a movie? Were there any that you were really disappointed with?
