Book Haul|| April.

Hey!

I know I haven’t done a blog post in a couple weeks and I am so sorry for that! Life happened, so I haven’t really had the chance to be on here. Today I have my April book haul to share with you though! 😀 You can check out a full list of the books that I own over here. There’s links to different pages on my blog that show my e-books and my physical books. I haven’t updated that page since early February though, so an update for that is coming soon. Here are the books that I got this month…

Print Books:

wheretheroadleadsusechoesbetweenusonlyabreathapartgirlswithrazorhearts

Where the Road Leads Us by Robin Reul
Echoes Between Us by Katie McGarry
Only a Breath Apart by Katie McGarry
Girls with Razor Hearts by Suzanne Young

savethedatebunnyschizojournals

Save the Date by Morgan Matson
Bunny by Mona Awad
Schizo by Nic Sheff
Journals by Kurt Cobain

I didn’t have a chance to take pictures of my own books that I bought, so I used the cover pictures off Goodreads. I haven’t done a Book Outlet in like two years, so I finally decided to do it because I really wanted to Journals. I’ve been wanting to read it for so long now and it was only $8 there versus $22 had I bought it on Amazon. I decided to add some more books to my order, because why not? 😛 I got all of these books on Book Outlet aside from Where the Road Leads Us. That was a pre-order of mine, because I loved Robin’s other book My Kind of Crazy so much. I have an ARC of Girls with Razor Hearts, but I wanted the hardcover copy because I am really enjoying the book series so far. I still need to buy the third book though, so hopefully I’ll do that soon!

I own pretty much every Morgan Matson book, but haven’t read a single one yet haha. I probably shouldn’t have gotten Save the Date because of that, but whatever *shrug*. She wrote a book series under the name “Katie Finn” that I absolutely LOVED so much when I read it years ago, so that is why I always buy her books in the hopes that one day I will finally read them. 😛 I really loved Katie McGarry’s “Thunder Road” series, so I always buy her books. I still need to read all her other books and hopefully soon since I own them all. I guess it’s kind of like the Morgan Matson situation haha. Schzio has been on my wishlist for the longest time now and Bunny sounded good. I meant to read Bunny last year (or could have been early this year) when I checked it out at my library and never did, so maybe now that I own it I finally will.

E-Books:

malorielovealwayswildthenextwife

Malorie by Josh Malerman
Love Always, Wild by A.M. Johnson
The Next Wife by Kaira Rouda

I really liked Bird Box and I am excited to read the sequel Malorie! I had a discount on Amazon and was able to get it for $4.99! Love Always, Wild sounded interesting to me, so I got that one and The Next Wife I was able to get for free with Amazon First Reads. I tried to stay away from many e-books this month since I always get so many and just never really get around to reading them, sigh. I am sure a lot of bookish people can relate to that though. It’s easy to buy them and forget them because you don’t see them. Although, I see the books on my bookshelves every single day and yet I get books from my library still LOL. #bookishproblems haha 😛

What new books did you get in April? Have you read any of the ones that I got? Feel free to link me to your haul post, so I can check it out!

I should have my April wrap up on Monday. I’m still working on it and hope to maybe finish one more book today to add to it, we shall see! I plan to blog hop and catch up on replying to comments then too. I got busy with things at work, so I didn’t have much down time over the last couple of weeks. Time I did have to myself I spent it reading or just relaxing with some of my favorite TV shows. The contract for my job ends today, so I am sadly out of work again after today and I’ll have more down time until I can find another job. So, hopefully that means I’ll be around on the blog more soon. Feel free to link me to any of your posts you think I should check out! I’ll make sure to make those priority when I go blog hopping next week. ❤

Do Book Covers Affect Whether I Read a Book?

Hey!

The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. Check out their blog for all the weekly prompts. This week’s prompt is “does the cover of a book affect whether you are more willing to read it?”

I would have to say yes on whether I am more willing to read a book because of the book cover. If a book cover jumps out at me, then I am usually more willing to read the book description to see if it would be something that I may like or be interested in. I know there’s that saying “don’t judge a book by its cover”, but more times than not I will check out a book if the cover draws me in. I am probably missing out on so many amazing books by doing this, but I am so guilty of it. There are some exceptions to this though, like if someone recommends a book to me, if it’s a favorite author of mine, or I see a book getting a lot of hype; then I’ll check those out. I am a sucker for a pretty book cover, so nine out of ten times I will choose that prettier one. That sounds so bad, I know. But I am who I am. 😛 And with all of that being said, I am going to share three books where I loved the book cover and I decided to read it, but it ended up not being that great. And three books where I didn’t really like the cover, but I ended up loving the story.

I loved these book covers, but the story wasn’t as great as the book cover:

wheredreamsdescendwhatbigteethbeforeiletgo

Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles
What Big Teeth by Rose Szabo
Before I Let Go by Marieke Nijamp

I wasn’t a fan of these book covers, but the story inside was so great and got five stars:

beingfishkillorphannumbereightthebookofessie

Being Fishkill by Ruth Lehrer
Orphan Number Eight by Kim van Alkemade
The Book of Essie by Meghan/ MacLean Weir

Does the book cover affect whether you are more willing to read it? Feel free to link me to your Book Blogger Hop post if you participated this week, so I can check it out.

Chaos on CatNet by Naomi Kritzer
4 out of 5 stars

Goodreads Description: In this follow-up to the award-winning near future YA thriller Catfishing on CatNet, It takes an AI to catch an AI…When a mysterious entity starts hacking into social networks and chat rooms to instigate paranoia and violence in the real world, it’s up to Steph and her new friend, Nell, to find a way to stop it—with the help of their benevolent AI friend, CheshireCat.

I received an ARC of Chaos on CatNet from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. It will be published on April 27, 2021.

Chaos on CatNet is the sequel to Catfishing on CatNet, which I enjoyed so much! As for the sequel, I thought it was SO good. I had so much fun reading it as I did with book one. In book one I really loved all the friendships and I was happy to see them continue in book two with some new characters and friendships introduced. It was fast-paced and so many different things happening. It kept me guessing and even a little spooky vibe to it because I feel like it could be something that could happen today or in the near future with all those hackers out there! I don’t want to go into too many details in this review, because I don’t want to spoil the first book or anything that happens in this one either. If you like near future sci-fi, then I highly recommend checking out the first book and of course this one!

Hey!

I’ve had a bookstagram for quite a few years now. It’s “sociallyawkwardbookworm” if you’re interested! There were some years where I was REALLY active and posting almost daily. Then I started to become less active and only posting maybe once a week or once a month. I wanted to be more active in 2020, but that ended up not happening. And even now in this new year I’ve only posted twice! For this blog post though, I thought it would be fun to post all the pictures that I uploaded to my bookstagram account in 2020! I had a total of 21 posts, but some of those posts contained more than one picture. Looking through my pictures kind of makes me want to get back into bookstagram, but honestly, bookstagram can be a lot of work! Coming up with cool photo ideas, sticking to themes, finding cool props, and writing captions (which I think is SO HARD sometimes). I’ve also been buying books less than I was before, so not having brand new books to showcase plays a part in that as well. Sigh. I am including the captions that I posted with them. I’ll put a link at the end of this post with part one, but for today here is part two!

I had so much fun posting all my bookstagram pictures from 2020 and I hope you liked them. 🙂 Maybe I’ll do it post again on my blog for this year if I start posting more over there. We shall see!

Books I’d Gladly Throw Into the Ocean.

Hey!

I am back with another Top Ten Tuesday. I am shocked, because it’s usually months between my next one haha. 😛 I thought the topic for this week sounded fun though and I couldn’t pass it up! I decided to sort my Goodreads “read” shelf by rating and that is how I determined which books I will gladly throw into the ocean. The books on my list today are ones that I gave one star or two stars. They are books that I found mostly boring and that I couldn’t connect with the story or the characters. They are books that didn’t grab (or hold) my attention as much as I had hoped they would. Most of these I had such high hopes for and was so let down. Here are the books that I would gladly throw into the ocean…

hatinggameilluminaethelaststarwithmalicewewereliars

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
The Last Star by Rick Yancey
With Malice by Eileen Cook
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

thedeadhouseinfinitysonsadieperfectlittlechildrenmiraclecreek

The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich
Infinity Son by Adam Silvera
Sadie by Courtney Summers
Perfect Little Children by Sophie Hannah
Miracle Creek by Angie Kim

What books would you gladly throw into the ocean? Any books on my list that we have different opinions about? Feel free to link me to your post, so I can check it out!

I feel like I’m on a roll with blogging this first week of April. I’ve already had three (this one makes the third) posts this month and I actually have two more to go up before the week ends! Although, I am considering saving them for next week, so I have something to post then. Hmm. I wish all weeks were as good as this one has been with posting lol. If you read my previous post (linked below), I talked about struggling to come up with new things to post about. So, this first week of April has been good. I hope you had a great weekend and Easter if you celebrated! 🙂

Will I Ever Get Tired of Blogging?

Hey!

I have been trying to think of new blogging content to post on my blog and have been drawing blanks. I even stayed up until almost 5am one night just researching and looking for ideas! The search is still on-going, but I did stumble upon a weekly meme that looked fun and I wanted to try on on my blog. It’s called “Book Blogger Hop“. The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. Check out their blog for all the weekly prompts. This week’s prompt as you can see in the subject of my post is “do you think you will ever get tired of blogging?”

It is actually fitting that I started participating in this meme and the topic question is if I think I’ll ever get tired of blogging. This has been something I’ve been thinking about a lot over the last 2.5 years. I first started this blog in January 2015. That was SIX years ago! My first blog post was January 17, 2015! You can check that out here. It was a little bit of an intro post about what I wanted for my blog and what I was going to post about. The main focus was of course on books. I also wanted to post about music and pictures that I take. I think I stuck to that quite a bit over the years with the main focus and majority of my content being book related. When I first made that post, I didn’t really believe this blog would become anything. Because I tried many, many times to blog in the past about other things and I’ve always just quit shortly after. It’s hard to believe that I am still here after six years!

I’ve experienced so many new things because of this blog. I met so many cool people and friends as well! Friends I still have today since day one! I was able to travel to California because of this blog, I was able to go to BookCon in NYC, and meet some of my blogger friends there. I discovered SO MANY new books and built a pretty big book collection because of this blog. I’ve been able to connect with book publishers and meet some of my favorite authors too! Having my blog opened my eyes to so many new things and experiences, which I am SO happy about. Today I almost have 2000 followers, which to me is pretty huge considering I really didn’t think I would have many when I first started or that I would still even be here today. I am so grateful for everything that has happened because I decided to try blogging one more time.

As of right now, I don’t think I would ever get tired of blogging. I actually really love blogging! BUT…there have been quite a few times over the last 2.5 years where I thought about quitting. I’ve even started to blog a lot less than I used to. I wouldn’t say I’ve thought about quitting because I am tired of it though. It’s just most of the time lately I’ve been feeling so uninspired and trying to figure out new content to post has been really difficult. If I knew the kind of posts I wanted to make, I would probably be blogging almost daily. My struggle over the last couple years has been content. I feel like I am always posting the same things over and over again. I’m tired of posting the same things again and again, so it makes me believe that maybe you are tired of seeing the same type of posts again and again. If I had a some fresh ideas of what to post, I really would be around here SO MUCH again. I actually do miss being here more.

I think I need to challenge myself a little more to figure out what I want to do or where else I want to take my blog. As I first mentioned at the start of this post, I stayed up so late researching and trying to figure out new ideas for posts. I am hoping to continue to do that and hopefully get a spark of inspiration again! I really don’t think I will ever get tired of blogging. I love writing about books or things that interest me. I love sharing the pictures that I take and the adventures I go on. By the way, I need to do that more! I love reading your posts and connecting with you. I love the blogosphere so much. I think I will always be here in some way, shape, or form. You’re stuck with me! 😛 I do get tired of not knowing what to post though and that can be so frustrating. That’s what makes me want to quit some days or makes me not be around as much as I used to. I have been in a MAJOR blogging slump for at least two years. I want out of my blogging slump. I just need to figure out how to get out and that’s the hard part, sigh.

With that being said, please feel free to let me know what you want to see from me. Any post ideas? Bookshelf tour? Bookmark collection? Funko Pop collection? Q&A? It doesn’t even have to be book related, whatever you want to see or what you want me to talk about. 🙂 Do you think you would ever get tired of blogging? If you participated in Book Blogger Hop this week link me to your post so I can check it out!

Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles
2 out of 5 stars

Goodreads Description: In a city covered in ice and ruin, a group of magicians face off in a daring game of magical feats to find the next headliner of the Conquering Circus, only to find themselves under the threat of an unseen danger striking behind the scenes. As each act becomes more and more risky and the number of missing magicians piles up, three are forced to reckon with their secrets before the darkness comes for them next. The Star: Kallia, a powerful showgirl out to prove she’s the best no matter the cost. The Master: Jack, the enigmatic keeper of the club, and more than one lie told. The Magician: Demarco, the brooding judge with a dark past he can no longer hide.

I received an ARC of Where Dreams Descend from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. It was published in August 2020.

Where Dreams Descend sounded so promising and the book cover is so beautiful! It ended up not being something that I enjoyed like I hoped I would. I am so sad about that, because I wanted to love it so much. I was immediately drawn in by the book description. It was a very slow start to the story and it took so long for things to actually happen that were exciting and would hold my attention. It wasn’t really until toward the end of the book that I was interested in what was happening. Because of the slow start and the lack of grabbing my attention, I wasn’t really invested in the characters. There were some things I really liked, like the magic. It just wasn’t enough for me to really fall in love with it. I thought the book was just okay. I can see why there have been a lot of people that really enjoyed this story though. Sadly, I wasn’t one of those people that did. I would still recommend checking it out. This was just one of those cases where it wasn’t for me.

Wrap Up|| March.

Hey!

Happy April! Is it really April already? March was overall a good month but I had a few distractions, because of that I didn’t read as much as I hoped I would. I had such a great reading month in February, so I was bummed about March. Luckily I am still ahead on my Goodreads challenge by five books since I read so much in February. It’s nice being ahead and not feeling so bad during the months where you don’t read a lot. Anyway, onto my March wrap up! You can find a full list of the books that I read this month and the other books I read throughout the year over here. All will be linked to Goodreads below and I will also link to individual blog posts for them if I did a review. Here is what I read and listened to in March…

Print/E-Book Books:
These are the books that I read myself (not audiobooks) throughout the month of March.

killertriggers

Killer Triggers by Joe Kenda – 4 out of 5 stars

I love Joe Kenda so much. I watch his show Homicide Hunter ALL the time. Killer Triggers is the second book of his that I read and I really enjoyed it a lot. He talks about some of the murder cases he worked on and what triggered a person to commit murder in those cases. It was so good and I really enjoyed this book. I hope he writes more books, because I always love reading (or seeing) what he has to say. I’ve been watching his new series on Discovery+ and it’s great. I think I have just a couple episodes left.

Audiobooks:
These are the books that I listened to the audio versions throughout the month of March.

queenofairanddarknessgeorgiapeachesandotherforbiddenfruit

Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare – 5 out of 5 stars
Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit by Jaye Robin Brown – 4 out of 5 stars

I finally decided to get back into The Dark Artifices series and listen to Queen of Air and Darkness. I listened to the other books in the series last year I believe. I loved it so much! It’s honestly crazy loving books by Cassandra Clare again, honestly. After The Mortal Instruments series going SO downhill for me (the last two books in that series were not good in my opinion) it made me want to get away from the Shadowhunter world forever. I decided to try again and I’ve been really loving The Dark Artifices series. Queen of Air and Darkness was so good and I had a lot of fun reading it. I left happy being back in that world again and wanting more of it! Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit was my March TBR pick. I’ve had it on my TBR since it was released in 2016! I am glad I finally picked it up, because I ended up liking it so much. I loved the friendship, the growth of the main characters (and other characters in the book), and the family aspect of it. I really enjoyed the story so much.

These are the books that I started to read in the month of March, but didn’t get a chance to finish them before the month ended.

The Mask Falling by Samantha Shannon
Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles

I didn’t get a chance to finish The Mask Falling or Where Dreams Descend before the month ended. I am hoping to finish them in April though! I’m about 30% into The Mask Falling and so far I really like it. I’ve just been so slow at reading it because I haven’t been in the mood for it. I don’t want to force myself to read it if I’m not in the mood for it. I love this series SOOO much, so I don’t want to end up forcing myself to read it and not like it as much as I would if I were in the mood for it. If that makes sense? So I’ve just been reading it here and there in between other books. Where Dreams Descend is okay so far, but I am not loving it. I’m about 68% into it. It’s really slow with things happening, which I don’t like. I want something exciting to happen already, sigh. I’ll have a review of this one as soon as I finish it.

What books did you read in March? Have you read any of the books that I read? Feel free to link me to your wrap up post, so I can check it out!

You guys, I am so close to 2000 followers on my blog, which is insane! I never thought my blog would ever see more than ten followers, honestly. It’s really motivating me to want to be more active again. I really need to figure out a good schedule where I can blog more and be around more. That was one of my goals for this year and so far I haven’t been doing very great at it. I’ll come up with something soon. I think I may put together a giveaway soon, because I didn’t do one yet this year. I am hoping to catch up on your blog posts and reply to comments between today and tomorrow too. ❤
