Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer
4 out of 5 stars

Goodreads Description: Chronic overachiever Prudence Barnett is always quick to cast judgment on the lazy, rude, and arrogant residents of her coastal town. Her dreams of karmic justice are fulfilled when, after a night out with her friends, she wakes up with the sudden ability to cast instant karma on those around her. Pru giddily makes use of the power, punishing everyone from public vandals to karaoke hecklers, but there is one person on whom her powers consistently backfire: Quint Erickson, her slacker of a lab partner and all-around mortal enemy. Soon, Pru begins to uncover truths about Quint, her peers, and even herself that reveal how thin the line is between virtue and vanity, generosity and greed . . . love and hate.

I received an ARC of Instant Karma from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. It was published on November 3rd.

I had a lot of fun reading Instant Karma! It was actually quite a surprise to me how much I liked it. I really liked the character interactions, especially between Prudence and Quint. I really liked the whole family aspect that was included in the story as well. There was quite a bit of references to The Beatles, which was great. I love The Beatles, so that was fun. I also really liked all the parts of the story that involved rescuing sea animals (like sea lions and otters) and caring for them to return them back to the ocean. I wasn’t really sure what Instant Karma was going to be like, because it’s so different than what Marissa Meyer has done before, but it actually ended up being so good and like I said earlier, quite a surprise to me. There was a little bit of Prudence’s personality that I didn’t like at the start of the story, but I think she grew as a character and definitely started to grow on me. Instant Karma was such a cute and fun read. I would definitely recommend giving it a chance.

Wrap Up|| November.

Hey!

I can’t believe it’s December 1st! I can’t believe 2020 is almost over. Such a weird year, but so happy to say goodbye to it soon lol. As for November though, I didn’t really have a great month as far as reading goes. I was only able to read two books, which was such a bummer. I just wasn’t in the mood to read or listen to audiobooks. I was hoping to get a few ARCs read and reviewed, but that obviously didn’t happen. 😦 I was able to read two books though, so at least I read something! Something is better than nothing, I think. You can find a full list of the books that I read this month and the other books I read throughout the year over here. All will be linked to Goodreads below and I will also link to individual blog posts for them if I did a review. Here is what I read and what I’m still currently reading…

Physically Read Books:
These are the books that I read myself (not audiobooks) throughout the month of November.

Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar – 4 out of 5 stars
Pretending by Holly Bourne – 3 out of 5 stars – Review

I loved reading Sideways Stories from Wayside School as a kid, so I decided to read it again as an adult. Still loved it so much as an adult as I did when I was a kid. There’s actually four books in this series and I’ve only ever read the first two, so I am hoping to read the other books as well. I was part of the blog tour for Pretending, so I read that and reviewed it (linked above). Overall, I thought it was a good book. I didn’t love it as much as I hoped I would have, but it was still pretty good. Just not completely what I expected. It’s a lot more on the serious side than I was expecting. It’s super important though.

Currently Reading Books:
These are the books that I started to read in the month of November, but didn’t get a chance to finish them yet.

Crazy Stupid Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams
Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer

I started to listen to the audiobook of Crazy Stupid Bromance, but didn’t get around to finishing it. So far I really like it and hope to finish it soon. I also started reading Instant Karma. I got a few chapters in, but haven’t had the chance to read more of it. I got the audiobook from my library, so I may just end up listening to it instead. I will hopefully have a review for Instant Karma posted in December.

What books did you read in November? Have you read any of the books that I read? Feel free to link me to your wrap up post, so I can check it out!

I am only four books away from completing my Goodreads challenge, so I really hope that this is a better reading month for me. Fingers crossed! I think in my November wrap up I included some of our Christmas decorations after we put up our tree. Well, I was able to get the stockings hung and also the Christmas tree now has our ornaments! So I figured I would share new pictures of that. Below is a a couple pictures so you can see what it looks like during the daylight and at night. 🙂 I am super happy with it! Just waiting for some new furniture (hopefully next Friday) and I think that room will be complete.

October decided to walk through while I was taking a picture in the night one. 😛 I love how all the lights reflect onto the wall. It just makes everything more colorful! Our star at the top of the tree also changes colors, which I love too. Anyway, I think that’s all for this post. I hope to catch up with your entries and reply to comments soon. I’ll probably start tonight and continue tomorrow if I don’t get to them all. ❤
