Book Haul|| August.

Hey!

Somehow I ended up buying a lot of books this month, which has been a little strange for me this year. I’ve been trying to be very careful with how much money I spend on books and how many books I buy over the last couple years. I think it’s been steady at maybe 1-3 books that I buy a month this year, but somehow I ended up with EIGHT books this month! Deals…I can’t pass up good deals on books. You can check out a full list of the books that I own over here. There’s links to different pages on my blog that show my e-books and my physical books. I finally updated all lists earlier this month, but these below won’t be included until the next update. All book titles below are linked to Goodreads.

Books I Bought:

CAAB2A2A-E826-4FFA-8F28-10C527B851EC

Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribay
Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan
Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman

I’ve been wanting  Patron Saints of Nothing and Hot Dog Girl for awhile now and seen them super cheap on Amazon this month, so I decided to get copies of those. I needed Thunderhead, because I read Scythe this month and wanted the sequel ASAP! I can’t wait to read it. Hopefully I’ll be picking it up soon.

Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell
Spin the Dawn by Elizabeth Lim

I want to own all of Alice Oseman’s books, so I got Radio Silence this month. I think I am only missing one book of hers that I’ll eventually get. I told myself not until I read Solitaire and Radio Silence first, lol. I’ve liked most of Rainbow’s books that I’ve read, so I had Pumpkinheads on pre-order and I’m looking forward to reading it. It will be a good addition to my Halloweenie TBR in October too. I read an ARC on Netgalley of Spin the Dawn and liked it so much. I seen it was only $8 on Amazon, so I decided to get a copy and now I can go pre-order that sequel! 😛

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas
Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield

I got A Court of Wings and Ruin solely because it was only $1.99 at this outlet store I went to. I really didn’t like the sequel in the series (I think I gave it two stars, I’m still angry about it) so I have no idea if/when I’ll pick it up but for some reason I didn’t want to pass up $1.99. I love wasting money, clearly. *rolling eyes at myself* I also got Once Upon A River at that same outlet store for $3.99 and I’ve been wanting to read it, so at least that was a win.

Friday Finds #83.

These are books that I have added to my Goodreads TBR shelves recently. I don’t own them (YET), but they are books that I really want to read one day!

Hey!

It’s been awhile since I’ve done this type of post. I am going to just jump right into it. I have five books that I recently added to my Goodreads shelf to share with you today. I’ve included the book descriptions below and linked them to Goodreads as well, in case you want to add them to your TBR. You can see more of my TBR shelves over on my Goodreads account over here and feel free to add me as a friend!

reverie

Reverie by Ryan La Sala

Goodreads Description: Ryan La Sala’s debut fantasy is an #OwnVoices story following Kane Montgomery, a gay teenager piecing his life back together after an attack robs him of his memories. As Kane searches for who he was, he uncovers a war for the creative rights to reality itself, each battle played out in an imagined world turned real: a reverie. Reveries are worlds born from a person’s private fantasies, and once they manifest they can only be unraveled by bringing their conflicts to resolution. Reveries have rules and plots, magic and monsters, and one wrong step could twist the entire thing into a lethal, labyrinthine nightmare. Unraveling them is dangerous work, but it’s what Kane and The Others do. Or did, until one of The Others purged Kane of his memories. But now Kane is back, and solving the mystery of his betrayal is the only way to unite his team and defeat reality’s latest threat: Poesy, a sorceress bent on harvesting the reveries for their pure, imaginative power. But what use might a drag queen sorceress have with a menagerie of stolen reveries? And should Kane, a boy with no love for a team that betrayed him, fight to stop her, or defect to aid her?

janeanonymous

Jane Anonymous by Laurie Faria Stolarz

Goodreads Description: Then, “Jane” was just your typical 17-year-old in a typical New England suburb getting ready to start her senior year. She had a part-time job she enjoyed, an awesome best friend, overbearing but loving parents, and a crush on a boy who was taking her to see her favorite band. She never would’ve imagined that in her town where nothing ever happens, a series of small coincidences would lead to a devastating turn of events that would forever change her life. Now, it’s been three months since “Jane” escaped captivity and returned home. Three months of being that girl who was kidnapped, the girl who was held by a “monster.” Three months of writing down everything she remembered from those seven months locked up in that stark white room. But, what if everything you thought you knew―everything you thought you experienced―turned out to be a lie?

scavengethestars

Scavenge the Stars by Tara Sim

Goodreads Description: When Amaya rescues a mysterious stranger from drowning, she fears her rash actions have earned her a longer sentence on the debtor ship where she’s been held captive for years. Instead, the man she saved offers her unimaginable riches and a new identity, setting Amaya on a perilous course through the coastal city-state of Moray, where old-world opulence and desperate gamblers collide. Amaya wants one thing: revenge against the man who ruined her family and stole the life she once had. But the more entangled she becomes in this game of deception—and as her path intertwines with the son of the man she’s plotting to bring down—the more she uncovers about the truth of her past. And the more she realizes she must trust no one…

cryinglaughing

Crying Laughing by Lance Rubin

Goodreads Description: Winnie Friedman has been waiting for the world to catch on to what she already knows: she’s hilarious. It might be a long wait, though. After bombing a stand-up set at her own bat mitzvah, Winnie has kept her jokes to herself. Well, to herself and her dad, a former comedian and her inspiration. Then, on the second day of tenth grade, the funniest guy in school actually laughs at a comment she makes in the lunch line and asks her to join the improv troupe. Maybe he’s even . . . flirting? Just when Winnie’s ready to say yes to comedy again, her father reveals that he’s been diagnosed with ALS. That is . . . not funny. Her dad’s still making jokes, though, which feels like a good thing. And Winnie’s prepared to be his straight man if that’s what he wants. But is it what he needs? Caught up in a spiral of epically bad dates, bad news, and bad performances, Winnie’s struggling to see the humor in it all. But finding a way to laugh is exactly what will see her through.

echoesbetweenus

Echoes Between Us by Katie McGarry

Goodreads Description: Veronica sees ghosts. More specifically, her mother’s ghost. The afterimages of blinding migraines caused by the brain tumor that keeps her on the fringes and consumes her whole life haunt her, even as she wonders if it’s something more…Golden boy Sawyer is handsome and popular, a state champion swimmer, but his adrenaline addiction draws him to Veronica. A girl with nothing to live for and a boy with everything to lose–can they conquer their demons together?

All of these books sound so amazing and I am dying to get my hands on them. Have you added any new books to your TBR? Feel free to link me to your posts if you have one or leave a comment letting me know what new books you added to your TBR recently.

Mini Review||How to Hack a Heartbreak.

How to Hack a Heartbreak by Kristin Rockaway
3 out of 5 stars.

Goodreads Description: By day, Mel Strickland is an underemployed helpdesk tech at a startup incubator, Hatch, where she helps entitled brogrammers—”Hatchlings”—who can’t even fix their own laptops, but are apparently the next wave of startup geniuses. And by night, she goes on bad dates with misbehaving dudes she’s matched with on the ubiquitous dating app, Fluttr. But after one dick pic too many, Mel has had it. Using her brilliant coding skills, she designs an app of her own, one that allows users to log harrassers and abusers in online dating space. It’s called JerkAlert, and it goes viral overnight. Mel is suddenly in way over her head. Worse still, her almost-boyfriend, the dreamy Alex Hernandez—the only non-douchey guy at Hatch—has no idea she’s the brains behind the app. Soon, Mel is faced with a terrible choice: one that could destroy her career, love life, and friendships, or change her life forever.

I received an ARC of How to Hack a Heartbreak from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. It was released July 30th.

I had a lot of fun reading How to Hack a Heartbreak. It is so relatable to so many people when it comes to the online dating world. I personally have never experienced any of the crazy and creepy things that involve the online dating scene, but I’ve read stories and it’s pretty messed up. I felt that How to Hack a Heartbreak did a great job at showing that throughout the story.

I mostly liked Melanie and her group of friends. I think a lot of people can really relate to them on some level. Throughout the story Melanie (and her friends) had to deal with a lot of creepy dudes and Melanie with her co-workers. She was the only woman working among males and the majority of them were just horrible and gross to her. I did like the romance in the book, but a few things bugged me. I think that was due to some of Melanie’s actions though. She started to become a little too negative for my liking. I won’t say a whole lot, because spoilers.

Overall, I enjoyed How to Hack a Heartbreak. It’s a quick read and so relateable. I am looking forward to checking out more books from Kristin.
