Wrap Up || September.

wrapup

Hey!

September flew by, as almost every month this year has! Not complaining, because it’s my favorite time of the year. THE HOLIDAYS! I am so ready for all the holiday fun, candy, and food to come in the next few months. As for September though, it was a pretty good month. I was able to take a trip to Illinois to visit family, the hubby started a new job, and things might be falling into place? I guess we’ll see what happens.

As far as reading goes, I think I did a pretty decent job with that this month. I was able to read five books and listen to an audiobook. I even started two others that I will hopefully finish soon. I am posting my wrap up a few days early, because I am taking the rest of the month (really only three days) off from reading. I feel a slump coming on and I can’t afford that, especially with what I hope (and need) to read in October. So I don’t plan to have any more books to add to my wrap up.

Now onto my wrap up of the books that I read in September. You can find a full list of these books and the other books I read this year over here. All will be linked to Goodreads below and I will also link to individual blog posts if I did a review for them.

Physically Read Books:
These are the books that I read myself (not audiobooks) throughout the month of September.

P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han – 4 out of 5 stars.
Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han – 4 out of 5 stars.
I was able to finish the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series this month by reading P.S. I Still Love You and Always and Forever, Lara Jean. I really liked both books, but P.S. I Still Love You was not my favorite of the three. I really liked the ending of the series and thought it was really good. I will say though that Kitty started to annoy me in book two and I honestly couldn’t stand her anymore in book three.

The Temptation of Adam by Dave Connis – 3 out of 5 stars.
I mentioned how I thought about DNF The Temptation of Adam, because it ended up getting really boring and I grew to almost hate one of the characters (Dez). I decided to push through it since I only had 30% left. I’m glad I finished it, but I still expected more from it and was a bit of a let down. I still liked some of it though, so I guess it wasn’t a complete fail. There was a lot of quote worthy stuff in it at least.

Not Even Bones by Rebecca Shaeffer – Review – 5 out of 5 stars.
HOLY CRAP NOT EVEN BONES WAS AMAZING! Fast-paced, creepy, exciting, gory, and so fun to read. Feel free to check out my review for more!

Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa – Review – 5 out of 5 stars.
Julie Kagawa continues to WOW me. Shadow of the Fox was everything I hoped it would be. THE FEELS, YOU GUYS! Great world building, fast paced, fun adventure, great characters, Japanese legends and culture. I don’t know how I am going to survive not having the sequel in my hands right now. Feel free to check out my review for more!

Audiobooks:
These are the books that I listened to the audio versions throughout the month of September.

fivepeopleyoumeetinheaven

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom – 5 out of 5 stars.
This was a reread for me, because I was sent an ARC of the sequel and I needed to reread The Five People You Meet in Heaven because it’s been YEARS since I read it the first time. I am so happy I reread it though, because I loved it just as much as I did back then. This time I listened to the audiobook though and it was so good. There was even some sound effects and music throughout it.

Currently Reading Books:
These are the books that I started to read in the month of September, but didn’t get a chance to finish them yet.

sadiethenogoodnine

Sadie by Courtney Summers
The No-Good Nine by John Bemelmans Marciano

I’m about 30% into Sadie and so far it’s pretty interesting. Nothing too crazy has happened yet though. I am taking a little break from it right now, because I really need to read The No-Good Nine and get my review drafted since I am part of the blog tour that is happening this month and I want to have it finished and ready to go when my tour date comes around. I hope to have these both finished in October along with some other books.

What books did you read in September? Have you read any of the books I read? Feel free to link me to your wrap up posts if you have one!

I’ll have my September book haul up on Monday and I will have my Halloweenie TBR posted in the next few days. In my TBR post, I’ll talk about all the spooky reads that I hope to have time for and some upcoming ARCs that I plan to read in October. Be on the look out for those posts coming soon. 😀

SHADOWOFTHEFOX

Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa
5 out of 5 stars.

“The spider does not spin its web in a heartbeat, nor does the albatross fly across oceans with a few flaps of its wings. Many would consider what they do impossible, and yet, they still complete their tasks without fail, because they simply…start. One step at a time.”

Goodreads Description: One thousand years ago, the great Kami Dragon was summoned to grant a single terrible wish—and the land of Iwagoto was plunged into an age of darkness and chaos. Now, for whoever holds the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers, a new wish will be granted. A new age is about to dawn. Raised by monks in the isolated Silent Winds temple, Yumeko has trained all her life to hide her yokai nature. Half kitsune, half human, her skill with illusion is matched only by her penchant for mischief. Until the day her home is burned to the ground, her adoptive family is brutally slain and she is forced to flee for her life with the temple’s greatest treasure—one part of the ancient scroll. There are many who would claim the dragon’s wish for their own. Kage Tatsumi, a mysterious samurai of the Shadow Clan, is one such hunter, under orders to retrieve the scroll…at any cost. Fate brings Kage and Yumeko together. With a promise to lead him to the scroll, an uneasy alliance is formed, offering Yumeko her best hope for survival. But he seeks what she has hidden away, and her deception could ultimately tear them both apart. With an army of demons at her heels and the unlikeliest of allies at her side, Yumeko’s secrets are more than a matter of life or death. They are the key to the fate of the world itself.

I received Shadow of the Fox from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Release date October 2, 2018.

Words….what are words? I don’t even know where to begin when it comes to writing about what I thought of Shadow of the Fox. My thoughts and my love for this book are everywhere right now. I was pretty hooked right from the start and by page 88 I was already feeling all the feels and even shed some tears. I knew from that point on this book was going to mean the world to me.

The world building was spot on and so detailed. I loved all the Japanese legends and culture so much. I was instantly filled with so much excitement while reading Shadow of the Fox. I thought it had a fairly fast pace and so much was going on. The cast of characters was amazing and I loved every single one of them. They all had their own little quirks and reasons why I loved them. I won’t go into too much detail about who they are, because they play parts in the bigger story and I don’t want to risk spoilers.

Yumeko is a Kitsune shapeshifter (half human, half fox) which is totally awesome! One of my favorite things about her is that she never left her temple before, so she knew nothing about the outside world, so she was curious about everything. She asked so many questions and it was funny at times, especially when she would fall for everyone’s sarcasm because she truly didn’t understand or know. Tatsumi and Yumeko are on this journey together and they meet some interesting people along the way (one of them becoming my favorite character) and run into so many crazy things and obstacles.

Overall, I loved everything about Shadow of the Fox. There’s lots of trickery, magic, secrets, and a few twists. There’s demons, witches, ghosts, spirits, samurai, and so many more things in this book. It’s quite the adventure and I had so much fun reading it. It had everything I need and love in a fantasy novel. Beautifully written and well executed to the end. The wait for the sequel is going to be so hard. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for everyone. There’s a couple characters that I feel are going to play an even bigger role in the coming books and I am curious to see if I’m right. I highly recommend reading!

“It is very hard to be human, little fox. Even the humans themselves don’t do a great job of it.”

Thoughts|| Not Even Bones.

notevenbones

Not Even Bones by Rebecca Shaeffer
5 out of 5 stars.

Goodreads Description: Nita doesn’t murder supernatural beings and sell their body parts on the internet—her mother does that. Nita just dissects the bodies after they’ve been “acquired.” But when her mom brings home a live specimen, Nita decides she wants out — dissecting living people is a step too far. But when she tries to save her mother’s victim, she ends up sold on the black market in his place — because Nita herself is a supernatural being. Now Nita is on the other side of the bars, and there is no line she won’t cross to escape and make sure no one can ever capture her again. Nita did a good deed, and it cost her everything. Now she’s going to do a lot of bad deeds to get it all back.

I received Not Even Bones from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Released September 4th, 2018.

Part of the description of Not Even Bones over on Goodreads is “Dexter meets This Savage Song” and I was so down for that. I don’t even know where to start with this, because I just want to fangirl like crazy with how freaking amazing it was. I finally found a book that blew me away! It’s been way too long. Not Even Bones was dark, it was creepy, it was face-paced. I had so much fun reading this book and it me on the edge of my seat quite a bit. I loved the writing style and it was so easy to read and so hard to put down.

I enjoyed the main character Nita so much and was rooting for her the entire time. There were characters you wanted to hate, but couldn’t help but to love. All the different types of “monsters” and special powers they have was really interesting. There were a lot of gory aspects to it as well, but I love that kind of stuff. So if you like that kind of thing, this book is for you! There was no insta-love, which I especially loved. It didn’t focus on a romance much at all. It left it open for something in future books though and I am actually happy with the possibility.

Overall, Not Even Bones was a perfect read. It was so exciting and so many things are happening. There’s a few twists and it’s so fast-paced and action packed. I love dark and creepy books and that’s exactly what this one was. You’ll be sucked in right from the very first page. I am so stoked that I was able to get the chance to read this book and I can’t wait for the sequel. The ending, holy crap! It’s perfect if you want to add it to your Halloweenie TBRs. 😛 Not Even Bones is out now, so I highly recommend picking up a copy! I plan to go buy my copy as soon as I post this review.

Not related to review above: Two posts in one day? Who am I? Haha. 😛 Lately I’ve been lucky if I even get one or two a week. I need to find some new inspiration for blog posts. I’ve been lacking as far as figuring out what new content I want to post on here and even on Bookstagram, sigh. Earlier today I posted a reading update (linked below), so feel free to check it out!

WWW Wednesday is a weekly MEME hosted by Taking on a World of Words. Simply answer the following questions. 🙂

The three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

*Goodreads linked below.

Hey!

I actually read quite a few books over the last couple of weeks even with going days without reading anything. I was also able to complete my Goodreads challenge last week, so that was exciting. I’m going to just jump right into what I’ve been reading and the ones I hope to read really soon.

Currently Reading:

SHADOWOFTHEFOXsadie

Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa
Sadie by Courtney Summers

I like to read a physical book and an e-book at the same time, because I don’t always bring my physical books around with me, so I am currently reading Shadow of the Fox and Sadie. I am BEYOND stoked to be reading Shadow of the Fox, because you all probably know that the Talon series is one of my all-time favorites and Julie Kagawa is EVERYTHING. I am also really excited about Sadie too, because I’ve heard so many great things about it and I am really hoping it lives up to all the hype. I just started these both, so I don’t have any real opinions yet, but so far they are both really interesting and i’m excited to continue reading.

Recently Finished:

alwaysandforeverfivepeopleyoumeetinheavennotevenbones

Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han
The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
Not Even Bones by Rebecca Shaeffer

I finished off the To All the Boys series by reading Always and Forever, Lara Jean. I actually finished that book pretty quickly (two days). It was pretty good and a good ending to the series. I will say though, there were some characters (Kitty, for example) that I really liked in the first book that ended up annoying me so much by the end of the series. She bugged me in book two and by book three I couldn’t stand her anymore. I reread (well listened) The Five People You Meet in Heaven, because I am hoping to read the sequel really soon and I am STOKED! I just finished Not Even Bones yesterday and OMG it was fantastic! I’ll have my review posted either later today or tomorrow, so be on the look out!

Reading Next:

The War Outside by Monica Hesse
Dear Evan Hansen by Val Emmich

I had Dear Evan Hansen on a previous list, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. Hopefully really soon. I am really looking forward to it, just haven’t had the chance to actually get to it yet. The War Outside is releasing next week, so I hope to get to this one really soon as well. I read Monica Hesse’s other book The Girl in the Blue Coat and loved it, so I am stoked to read her new book.

Hey!

Over the weekend I went on a weekend road trip to Illinois for my one of cousin’s wedding. It was my mom, my niece, my cousin Scotty, his wife, their daughter, and me. Scotty’s brother was getting married. The drive is about eighteen hours. I live in Florida and Illinois is a ways away! The drive there wasn’t too bad and seemed to go pretty quickly. I think we only had to stop a few times to get gas and some food. A lot of the family on my mom’s side lives in Illinois and it’s been quite awhile since I’ve seen most of them. Years and years!

Top left picture is Atlanta, GA at 3am. That’s when we drove through. Top right is sunrise in Kentucky. Bottom is the start of the sunrise in Tennessee. Tennessee sunrise came first and Kentucky a little while later. We drove through all three places. We started the trip at 5pm Thursday, so we drove through most of the states at night, so I couldn’t get a lot of cool pictures (especially of Tennessee) until on the way home, which I will be posting later in this post because I took so many cool mountain pictures!

34f6626c-29fb-46a1-9b5d-c3ea792cd72c

Another sunset picture below from either Tennessee or Kentucky. I don’t remember exactly where I took it, but it was one of those places on the way there. I love this picture.

On Friday when we got to Illinois, we went to another cousin’s house to change clothes and then head out to my aunt’s house to visit with them for a little while. It was nice seeing them, because it’s been years since I’ve seen them.

0af24313-b54c-46bf-b5e4-78fac2dfb481

This is a grain elevator right next to her house. It stores crops for farmers.

After hanging out there for a little bit, we decided to go to my cousin’s house that is getting married to help decorate for their wedding the next day (Saturday). He lives on a farm, so we got to check out some animals (cows, pigs, chickens, ducks). I didn’t take any pictures of the chickens or ducks, but I did get some pictures of the pigs and cows! First though, here is some of the wedding decorations that they had. My cousin built the arch, which was really neat.

Now onto all the animals! There were some baby pigs too, which they were all hiding so we couldn’t see them all. My cousin did get into the pig pen and get one out though. It was a little difficult since the mom pig was chasing him around, lol.  There were so many cows on the farm. All different sizes and colors. There were some pigs that were sharing space with some of the cows too.

048b8a85-e7b6-43f7-bd85-e280a3d8f144

This is probably my favorite picture that I took of the cows. I just really like the way that it looks. There were also tons and tons of corn and other crops on the farm as well, so I took pictures of those too.

After helping out there and taking a ton of pictures, my cousin/bestie Tammy, my mom, niece, and I went to get something to eat before heading to my brother’s house where we were staying. Tammy and I went to Walmart, so I could get some new shoes since my other ones got so muddy with all the rain/mud on the farm. I ended up not even bothering with wearing my new shoes, because I knew they would end up getting muddy too. But I had them for the ride home at least. Saturday, my mom, niece, and I got up early and dressed for the day then went to get breakfast.

Left picture is Tammy and I messing around with all the masks at Walmart. Right picture is what I wore to the wedding. I was originally not going to wear my black tights, but it was raining and cold so I ended up going into the Denny’s bathroom and putting them on. I’m glad I decided to at least carry them in my purse with me, lol! The wedding turned out nice even though it rained. I got super muddy (my shoes and some of my tights) when we went to the barn early to help setup and fix things up since the barn got a little bit of rain in it, so we had to come up with a new idea. But it turned out nice. I didn’t get a ton of pictures besides a few that I took of the ceremony for my cousin and his new wife. Below is just a picture of my niece, me, and Tammy. We decided to take a picture of our muddy shoes, lol.

2a63e87e-0d82-4a7f-8c52-35fde9089a0c

On Saturday night after the wedding, I went out to eat with Tammy and her boyfriend. That was a good time. I never met her boyfriend before and he seemed pretty cool and nice. After dinner I went back to my brother’s house and went straight to sleep. Had to get up early Sunday to get ready to leave. So we went to pickup my cousin Scotty and his family and then went to say bye to everyone. After that we headed for home!

Now for all the awesome pictures I took of the mountains in Tennessee. You have to actually drive up mountains to get to where we needed to go. On the way to Illinois we went through the mountains at night, so we couldn’t really see anything. On the way home though, it was daytime, so we got to see everything. We even decided to go to Lookout Mountain and drive to the top of that. Lookout Mountain is kind of a touristy type place, because it has Ruby Falls and Rock City, but we didn’t do those tours. We just drove to the top ourselves and looked around. It’s really cool though, because it’s like it’s own little community up there. They have parks, stores, even a Starbucks (LOL), etc. I guess it’s helpful for the people that live on the mountain, so they don’t have to drive up and down it every single day. Some of the street names were neat too, like Cinderella and Red Riding Hood. Even their pharmacy was called Fairyland Pharmacy.

The next set of pictures are of some flowers that I seen around Lookout Mountain when we were walking around the mountain.

The ride home felt like forever, but I think that was just because we were all anxious to get home after being in a car for so long. All in all, the trip ended up being pretty fun and I got to take so many awesome pictures. See some cool things that I haven’t seen in years and visit with family that I haven’t seen in years. 😀

I brought with me a ton of reading material (two physical books and my Kindle filled with 100+ books downloaded), but I couldn’t focus on reading while in the car on the way there or back. It’s usually easy for me to read in the car, but for some reason not this time. I was hoping to at least read two books, but I ended up only reading 40% of one book the entire trip. Hopefully I can catch up on some reading this week. I’ll also catch up with your posts tomorrow or Friday and reply to comments.

Hey!

This is a short work week for me, which I am so stoked about. I only had/have to work Tuesday, today, and half a day tomorrow. I managed to finish one book this week and almost finish another. I also have a few books coming up next that I am really excited about! Here are the books that I’ve been reading this week and hope to read really soon.

Currently Reading:

temptationofadam

The Temptation of Adam by Dave Connis

I thought about marking The Temptation of Adam as DNF, but I decided to continue to read it since I only have 30% left of the book and could most likely finish it today if I pushed through it. I really liked the first half of the book and thought it was really good, but then I started to get insanely bored and one of the characters (Dez) started to really annoying me and I honestly can’t stand her. She makes it so hard to want to read the rest of the book, which is such a disappointment because I really liked the beginning a lot. I even liked Dez at first, but now not so much. Guess we’ll see what happens today on whether I finish the book or continue with the DNF status.

Recently Finished:

psistillloveyou

P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

I finished P.S. I Still Love You last night and while I really did like the book, it didn’t blow me away as much as I was hoping it would. It was definitely not better than the first book in my opinion. I found myself bored quite a bit while reading this one. I also have mixed feelings about the ending. I’ll probably still read the third book though. I have a few ARCs to get to first. I hope the third book is better than this one was.

Reading Next:

notevenbonessadiedearevan

Not Even Bones by Rebecca Shaeffer
Sadie by Courtney Summers
Dear Evan Hansen by Val Emmich

These are my options for my reading next. I’m not entirely sure which one I will read next, but it will most likely be one of these three. I am really stoked for every single one of them. I am leaving tomorrow for a mini weekend trip which involves A LOT of hours in the car (there and back), so I should be able to get a lot of reading in. Maybe I’ll even get the chance to finish all three? I want to use this trip to catch up on some ARCs. I even downloaded like 100+ books to my Kindle JUST in case I need more options. 😛
