Hey!
My reading is all over the place. I’m reading (and listening) to so many books at one time, which I never do. I think I’m in a reading slump or heading that way, so I keep starting new books to see if one will grab my attention. I also have so many ARCs that I need to get to, but just haven’t been in the mood to dive into my stack. I don’t want to read them when I’m not in the mood for them, because I don’t want to risk not liking them because of that. I’ll have a post on all the ARCs and review books that I need to read, so I can start checking them off the list! Anyway though, onto what I have been reading recently.
Currently Reading:
I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara
Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler
The Shadow Minds Journal by Kia Carrington-Russell
Also, Circe. But it’s unofficially on the list, because in reality I haven’t touched it in months and not sure when I will pick it up again. I’m listening to I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, I’ve had it on hold at my library for months and finally got it. I only have it for a few more days though, so I have to try to finish it this week. It’s good so far. I’ve been wanting to read Why We Broke Up for awhile now. I was looking at my bookshelf over the weekend and it was calling my name to finally read it, so I started that. It’s okay so far. I’m a little over halfway through it now and I am hoping it gets better. I’m not really a huge fan of the writing style and sometimes the conversations in the book make no sense at all. I was sent an e-ARC of The Shadow Minds Journal from the author for review. I’m about 16% into it and it’s alright so far.
Recently Finished:
The Boy Who Could See Demons by Carolyn Jess-Cooke
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
I finally read A Darker Shade of Magic…I wasn’t that impressed. I liked it, but it didn’t blow me away. I was pretty bored throughout the first half of the book. I’ll still give the series a second chance and pick up the sequel soon. I also read The Boy Who Could See Demons, which was really good. It deals with mental health and I really liked it. I flew through it, it was hard to put down.
Reading Next:
#MurderTrending by Gretchen McNeil
I’m not entirely sure what I will be reading next. I’m reading so many at one time right now that I am going to try to focus on finishing those. I may try to read #MurderTrending soon since I got that ARC from Netgalley and it’s release date is early August. I have a few July ARCs I need to read too, so we’ll see what happens. I packed up the majority of my books (see below) and only kept like 30 or so out; including my ARCs that I need to read. So we’ll see what happens.
What are you currently reading? Recently finished? Reading next? Have you read any of these books? Feel free to link me to your posts, so I can check them out!
I have so much going on right now outside of the blogosphere and reading, so I don’t even know how much time I’ll have to read (or blog) the next month or two. I got the okay from my boss about moving and keeping my job, so we are heading to Lakeland at the end of August. We have a lot of things to do like get rid of things, start packing our stuff, paint our current apartment, and finding a new place to rent in Lakeland. There’s also a ton of little things that go into it too, like changing our address with the post office and changing it with other places too, getting power and water turned on over there, switching our internet/cable service to over there. SO MUCH TO DO AND NOT ENOUGH TIME! Hopefully once all of that is done and we’re settled, I’ll be on a lot more. I’ll catch up with your posts in the next day or two when I get some down time. 🙂

I wasn’t very impressed with A Darker Shade of Magic either when I first read it. However, I absolutely loved the second book. It was definitely my favorite of the series!
That’s good to know that you loved the second book. I plan to give the series another chance, so hopefully I’ll end up loving the second book more. 🙂
Yeah, the plot was more interesting to me and the characters were less annoying than they were in the first book, particularly Lila.
Yeah, Lila was a bit annoying to me too.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought so! Haha! 😁
Great post. 🙂
Thanks! 🙂
I couldn’t put Circe down! Did it lose your interest or did another book overshadow it?

It’s been pretty boring to me, to be honest. There are good/interesting parts, but a lot of it has been boring and hard to get through. I’m 60% through it and I’ve been told it gets better toward the end. It sucks, because I usually LOVE reading greek mythology.
I hate moving…and my last move just about did me in…LOL…which is why I’m still in my current place after 11 years! I thought I would have moved by now. There is comfort in sameness.
Enjoy your books…I hope to get my hands on I’ll Be Gone in the Dark…soon. It’s on hold at the library.
Here’s MY WWW POST
There is definitely comfort in sameness, which is why we never moved. We planned to move at least a few times over the last few years and every year we’re like “just one more year here”. FINALLY we are doing it though and I am not looking forward to all the stuff that goes along with it. Especially trying to move three cats on a four hour car ride. They HATE being in the car for even a second. Thank you! 😀 I hope you can get your hands on I’ll Be Gone in the Dark soon! I know my hold for my library was FOREVER because so many people want to read it.
#murdertrending is an interesting title. It really has me intrigued. I’m going to have to look that one up. I hope you love it!
Thank you! #MurderTrending sounded so good, so I had to request it on Netgalley. Super excited to read it and review it.
I read #MurderTrending – just posted my review on my blog this week. It was a compelling read and had some surprises. Hope you enjoy it! https://teripolen.com/2018/07/18/www-wednesday-what-am-i-reading-amreading-10/
Thanks! I’ll have to go check out your review for it. I can’t wait to read it.
Moving is super stressful – I feel your pain! I hope it all goes smoothly. Congrats on being able to keep the job, too!! That’s great!
I hate book slumps. I tend to do the same thing…pick up multiple books until something holds my attention. I am still on the library audio hold for I’ll Be There In The Dark. I can’t wait to get it!
Thank you! I hope it goes smoothly too. I think the most stressful part for me is the cats. They hate being in the car for even a second. When the hurricane came last year and we had to leave, we drove 2.5 hours with them and they cried the entire time. Where we are moving to is like four hours away, so ughh. That’ll be stressful with them crying for four hours straight, which I hope they don’t do!
Book slumps are the worst. I might have to take a little break and maybe that’ll help. I think with this move and having a lot on my mind, it’s making it harder to really focus on wanting to read.
I agree…you have a lot going on so it’s totally understandable not to focus on reading right now. Can you give anything to the cats to help? Like a dose of Benedryl? Lol. I give one of my cats an allergy medicine because of issues she has, so I’m wondering if you can do something just to help their anxiety during the ride. My cats hate cars, too, and they all cry while they’re in it.
I thought about Benedryl, lol. I was looking for tips and also came across this anxiety stuff for dogs and cats that you rub on their necks and paws and it’s supposed to calm them down. It also had decent reviews on Amazon. I thought about buying some (it’s only $10) and trying it out. Like take them in the car around the neighborhood after putting the spray on them and see how that goes.
Great idea!!
Oh I’m sorry to hear you’ve been feeling in a bit of a slump lately, Ashley, I hope that a book will grab your attention sometime soon ❤
I'm sorry you were a bit disappointed by ADSOM – it has a slow start for sure, but I thought that it was so worth-it, to set up the entire world and everything. I hope you'll keep on going with it and that you will love it 🙂
Best of luck for the move, I hope everything will go smoothly ❤
Thanks, Marie! I plan to give A Darker Shade of Magic series another chance and pick up the sequel soon. I did like it enough to see what else happens, so we’ll see! 🙂 ❤
I’m sorry you didn’t like ADSOM better! Fingers crossed you will be able to avoid a slump… Nothing has been truly grabbing me the last week or so either, so hopefully we will find another 5 star read soon. And good luck with the moving and all that’s involved. ❤
I am hoping the sequel to ADSOM will be better. I should hopefully be getting the audiobook version from my library soon, so I can give it another chance. I am dying to find another five star read ASAP. I want something AMAZING, but I just haven’t really been getting wowed lately. Hopefully soon for the both of us! Thanks, ❤
I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you! xx

#MurderTrending sounds really interesting. I don’t think I’ve read anything by the author. Wishing you lots of luck with your move. Hope everything goes smoothly!
I am really excited to start #MurderTrending. I haven’t read anything by the author either, but I do own a couple of her other books. Thank you! 🙂
