Book Tag|| Mid-Year Freak Out.

I seen this tag over on Kelly’s (Another Book in the Wall) blog and decided to give it a go today. I usually do the mid-year freak out tag every year, so I am excited to do it once again!

1. Best Book You’ve Read This Year?

Definitely a tie between Immortal Reign by Morgan Rhodes and Inferno by Julie Kagawa. They are both series enders and OMG, they were amazing. The Falling Kingdoms and the Talon Saga forever hold pieces of my heart. They are my two favorite series of all-time now. I am so sad they are over, but holy crap were they everything I could ever hope for!

2. Best Sequel You’ve Read in 2018?

The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan. Rick Riordan is one of my favorite authors and he has not disappointed with the Magnus Chase series. The sequel was perfect and I can’t wait to read the next book.

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To?

SO. MANY. OMG. I’ll stick with books that I own and choose Puddin’ and Leah on the Offbeat. I bought those on their release dates and still haven’t had the chance to get to them yet. I am super stoked for them both.

4. Most Anticipated Release For The Second Half Of The Year?

I am so stoked for Patrick Ness’ new book And the Ocean Was Our Sky. I need to own and read everything Ness writes, because he is amazing. I can’t wait to get my hands on his new book in September.

5. Biggest Disappointment?

Before I Let Go by Marieke Nijkamp. I loved her first book so much and her new book sounded like it was going to be really good. It was a pretty big disappointment for me, because it was just way too weird for me and there were a lot of times where I was just beyond annoyed with everything happening. It also didn’t really make sense to me at times and left me more frustrated than anything. It wasn’t for me.

6. Biggest Surprise?

I’m going to choose Turtles All the Way Down by John Green for this one. It was a big surprise, because I honestly went into this book thinking that I wasn’t going to like it. John Green’s books are usually a hit or miss and mostly a miss for me. I absolutely loved Turtles All the Way Down though and I was completely shocked that I did! It was so amazing and I already want to reread it again.

7. Favorite New To You Or Debut Author?

Holly Black! I read The Cruel Prince and OMG it was amazing! I loved everything about it and I can’t wait to read her other books. I feel like I have been missing out!

8. Newest Fictional Crush?

Prince Cardan from The Cruel Prince. I loved his character. He’s wicked, he’s cruel, but there is more to him than meets the eye.

9. Newest Favorite Character?

Penny and Sam from Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi. They were such great characters and I love how they balanced each other out in the book. By the way, Emergency Contact was AMAZING. It was one of my highly anticipated books of the year and it did not disappoint. Loved it.

10. Book That Made You Cry?

your name. by Makoto Shinkai. HOLY CRAP, AMAZING. Also, the feels. So many feels. I was crying throughout, lol. So damn good though and the movie was even better.

11. Book That Made You Happy?

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon. This book was so damn cute and had me smiling like crazy. Also, Rishi…ahhh, he is also a new fictional crush. LOL 😛

12. Favorite Book-To-Film Adaptation?

I just watched Every Day this week and the movie was so good. I loved the book by David Levithan so much when I read it back in 2015, so I was stoked when the movie came out. I can’t wait for third book in October.

13. Favorite Post You Have Done This Year?

Honestly, I’m not really sure about this one. I guess one of my picture posts. I posted a few travel ones that were fun to write and share pictures. Linked below:

Travel|| Biscayne National Park.
Travel|| Butterfly World.

14. Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year?

I am going to go with beautiful covers for this one. I am a sucker for beautiful book covers. Isn’t everyone? 😛 My top three that I bought this year so far is Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh, Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, and Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi. I love these covers so much! I still need to read these books too, haha.

15. What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of the Year?

Again, SO MANY! I want to try to read more of my older books that have been on my shelves the longest. I actually made a list at the beginning of the year of all the older books on my shelves that I want to read this year. A couple being Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo and A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab.

I have a picture post in the works, but currently I am a bit overwhelmed with it because the last one I did was two months ago. So I have a TON of pictures I want to post on my blog and I also have a ton of pictures I still need to go through. It might just have to be multiple posts, because two months of pictures is A LOT! I also have to catch up with your posts and comments. I’ve been MIA this week, because I haven’t really been in the mood to blog and I have some other things going on, so I’ve been busy. I also feel a cold coming on. Thanks to my sister for getting me sick, ugh. I  needed a little break. I’ll catch up soon! 🙂

In case you missed it;

I hope you have a great day!

  1. Oh I loved your answers, Ashley! ❤ I am so glad you loved Penny and Sam as much as I did and yay for enjoying the latest John Green book as well. I can't WAIT for you to read Children of Blood and Bone, it really deserves all the hype it's been getting, for sure! 😀

  2. Every time I see you mention Falling Kingdoms or Talon you remind me I need to pick up both series! I really need to find the time soon… And how did I not know about a new Patrick Ness book?!?!?!!!!! Reading your thoughts about Turtles gives me hope for the book, because frankly I was thinking I wasn’t going to like it… I guess I’ll try it out after all since I already have a copy on my kindle. 😉 And a big fat YESSSS to both Six Of Crows and the Shades Of Magic series!! I absolutely adored both and especially Shades Of Magic is one of my all time favorites. ❤ ❤

    • Yes, you need to pick up Falling Kingdoms and Talon! 😀 They’re such great series. New Patrick Ness, I am stoked! I was completely shocked with how much I loved Turtles. Because I seriously have the worst luck with John Green books. I would definitely give it a shot. I need to read Six of Crows ASAP! I have the audiobook on hold for A Darker Shade of magic at my library, so hopefully I can get it soon. I think I will finally start the series if I listen to the audiobook. ❤

  3. I can’t wait to read Leah on the Offbeat either. I bought it like two weeks ago and I can’t wait to read it. I also LOVED Turtles All the Way Down so much. I love Every Day too but I haven’t seen the movie and I bought Another Day (the sequel) when I bought Leah on the Offbeat so hopefully I can get to those soon. I really want to see Every Day though. This was an awesome tag.

  4. This tag is showing up and making me panic because I completely forgot about it and now I need to find time to put together my own. Where does the time go? I want to go back and check out Holly Black’s other novels because of The Cruel Prince as well. I love both Six of Crows and A Darker Shade of Magic. There is a ton of pressure liking those two, isn’t there? I hope they don’t disappoint. Hope you pick up some amazing reads in the latter half of 2018!

    • I always forget about this tag until I see it popping up all over the blogosphere, haha. Same for the end of the year one, lol. OMG the pressure to like Six of Crows and A Darker Shade of Magic is REAL. I think that’s why I put them off for so long. I tend to not click well with hyped books and I am terrified I won’t like them. I have the audiobook for A Darker Shade of Magic on hold at my library, so I think I’ll give that one a try that way. Sometimes I end up liking books more as an audiobook, so I decided to go that route for A Darker Shade of Magic.
