I am a little late with posting my book haul and wrap up post for May since I was on vacation. Our honeymoon was so much fun though! I’ll have a full post about it at some point in the next week or so. The month of May was a good reading month for me even though I was pretty busy. I also didn’t buy a lot of books either, so I’m including my haul in this post as well instead of a separate one. Here is what I read in the month of May. You can find a full list of these books and the other books I read this year over here. All will be linked to Goodreads below and I will also link to individual blog posts for them if I did a review.
Physically Read Books:
These are the books that I read by myself (not audiobooks) throughout the month of May.
Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry – 5 out of 5 stars.
I loved Nowhere But Here more than words can ever express. I am also so dang jealous that I am not a part of their family. “Reign of Terror! Hoo-ra!” I also cried way too much, but it was also fun and cute too. So many feels though. *insert crying emoji*
The Best Kind of Magic by Crystal Cestari – 4 out of 5 stars – Review.
I surprisingly really liked The Best Kind of Magic. There are lots of different magical elements in this book as well as different magical beings; witches, vampires, werewolves, goblins, fairies and more! It was a lot of fun to read and had me laughing out loud quite a bit. Feel free to check out my review for more.
Amish Guys Don’t Call by Debby Dodds – 3 out of 5 stars – Review.
Amish Guys Don’t Call wasn’t exactly what I expected and turned out to be a little weird for me, but it was still a decent read. Feel free to check out my review for more.
Saga Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan, Fiona Staples – 4 out of 5 stars.
Reading my first graphic novel was a success! Saga Vol. 1 was so good. I enjoyed it so much even if it was a little weird at times. ALL THE FEELS THOUGH! I laughed quite a bit too. I love Marko and Alana. They are hilarious together. I am super excited to start on the next volume (hopefully this month!).
The Unlikelies by Carrie Firestone – 4 out of 5 stars. – Review.
I finished The Unlikelies on the last day of May while on vacation and I enjoyed it so much. It’s a perfect summer read. There’s great characters and unlikely friendships. It also deals with some heavy stuff, but it’s also a fun read as well. It was just released yesterday. I just posted my review on my blog yesterday, so feel free to check out my review for more.
These are the books that I listened to the audio versions throughout the month of May.
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas – 3 out of 5 stars.
I’m still not sure how I feel about this book. There were a lot of things I didn’t like and it was also kind of boring for awhile. Feyre also REALLY started to get on my nerves and became pretty annoying. I really like Rhysand. I wasn’t sure how I felt about him in ACOTAR. He started to grow on me in this book though. Also, WTF was up with Tamlin? He was a completely different person. I don’t really know if I like that, because I really liked Tamlin in the first book and this one he wasn’t the same person at all. I don’t really know how to feel about this book and it’s kind of annoying because Feyre did so much in the first book for her love with Tamlin and then it was completely thrown out the window in this book like it didn’t mean anything. I think I’m just confused by the entire thing, to be honest. What was the point of ACOTAR? This one took everything from that book and threw it out the window. I do want to read the next one though. The last 20-30% of the book was good; it was not as boring and it had a less annoying Feyre at the end. I want to give it one more chance. I’m still on the fence about this though and it sucks, because I LOVED ACOTAR so much.
Legion by Julie Kagawa – 5 out of 5 stars.
Legion!! I have SO much love for this series. Legion was just as amazing as the other books in the Talon Saga. Julie continues to shatter my heart. Julie and this series has all the millions of pieces of my heart.
Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
I also got through half of A Torch Against the Night (sequel to An Ember in the Ashes) audiobook, but it’s been so boring that I haven’t picked it up again. I may give it another chance this month and finish it. Maybe the second half will be better.
May Book Haul
Another month of not getting a whole lot of books, which is a very good thing. It means I’m reading more of the books I already own! Since I didn’t get a lot of books, I am just going to use the book covers from Goodreads instead of posting my own pictures of my books this month. I thought I had all of the pictures on my phone still, but before vacation I cleared off a lot of pictures, so I don’t have them saved to my phone anymore. You can check out my Bookstagram (foreverbookish_) Instagram account to see more of my bookish pictures though!
I really enjoyed The Crown’s Game and The Crown’s Fate was one of my pre-orders for this year. Super stoked to read it. I read Saga Volume 1 and really loved it, so I had to get the next couple of volumes. Can’t wait to dive into them. I was hoping to on vacation, but I didn’t get the chance. The Novl sent me an ARC of The Unlikelies, which I really enjoyed. Link to my review above.
Pulse vs. the Killing Fiend is Barry Lyga’s May short story of the month. Each month he’s been putting out short story e-books with the money going to ACLU to help defend the First Amendment. I loved Nowhere But Here, so I wanted to check out some of McGarry’s other books and Pushing the Limits was on sale in May.
What did you read in May? Have you read any of the books that I read or bought in May? Feel free to link me to your wrap up and book haul posts!
In case you missed it;
I hope you have a great day!
