Friday Finds #62.

fridayfinds

FRIDAY FINDS showcases the books you ‘found’ and added to your To Be Read (TBR) list… whether you found them online, or in a bookstore, or in the library — wherever! (they aren’t necessarily books you purchased).

Hi!

Today I have three books to share with you guys and since it’s not many, I decided to include the Goodreads description in the post as well as my thoughts/first impressions of the books. Onto the books! You can see more of my TBR over on my Goodreads account over here and feel free to add me as a friend!

thewindfall

The Windfall by Diksha Basu

I am really really excited for this one. It sounds like it’s going to be a really fun read. I also have a feeling that I may even get a little teary eyed with this one. I was approved for The Windfall on Netgalley, so I am stoked to read it.

Goodreads Description: For the past thirty years, Mr. and Mrs. Jha’s lives have been defined by cramped spaces, cut corners, gossipy neighbors, and the small dramas of stolen yoga pants and stale marriages. They thought they’d settled comfortably into their golden years, pleased with their son’s acceptance into an American business school. But then Mr. Jha comes into an enormous and unexpected sum of money, and moves his wife from their housing complex in East Delhi to the super-rich side of town, where he becomes eager to fit in as a man of status: skinny ties, hired guards, shoe-polishing machines, and all. The move sets off a chain of events that rock their neighbors, their marriage, and their son, who is struggling to keep a lid on his romantic dilemmas and slipping grades, and brings unintended consequences, ultimately forcing the Jha family to reckon with what really matters.

wickedlikeawildfire

Wicked Like a Wildfire by Lana Povovic

Not going to lie…cover love. It does sound really cool though too. I’m interested in seeing more about Iris and Malina’s gifts. Wicked curses and magic, Wicked Like a Wildfire sounds like a great read to me.

Goodreads Description: All the women in Iris and Malina’s family have the unique magical ability or “gleam” to manipulate beauty. Iris sees flowers as fractals and turns her kaleidoscope visions into glasswork, while Malina interprets moods as music. But their mother has strict rules to keep their gifts a secret, even in their secluded sea-side town. Iris and Malina are not allowed to share their magic with anyone, and above all, they are forbidden from falling in love. But when their mother is mysteriously attacked, the sisters will have to unearth the truth behind the quiet lives their mother has built for them. They will discover a wicked curse that haunts their family line—but will they find that the very magic that bonds them together is destined to tear them apart forever?

sixstories

Six Stories by Matt Wesolowski

I don’t read enough mystery/crime books. It’s strange too, because when I’m not reading, you can usually find me sitting in front of the TV watching the Investigation Discovery channel. ID plays TV shows all day and night about crimes and murder. Six Stories is right up my alley and it sounds really good.

Goodreads Description: 1997. Scarclaw Fell. The body of teenager Tom Jeffries is found at an Outward Bound center. Verdict? Misadventure. But not everyone is convinced. And the truth of what happened in the beautiful but eerie fell is locked in the memories of the tight-knit group of friends who embarked on that fateful trip, and the flimsy testimony of those living nearby. 2017. Enter elusive investigative journalist Scott King, whose podcast examinations of complicated cases have rivaled the success of Serial, with his concealed identity making him a cult internet figure. In a series of six interviews, King attempts to work out how the dynamics of a group of idle teenagers conspired with the sinister legends surrounding the fell to result in Jeffries’ mysterious death. As every interview unveils a new revelation, you’ll be forced to work out for yourself how Tom Jeffries died, and who is telling the truth.

Have you added any new books to your TBR? Feel free to link me to your posts if you have one or leave a comment letting me know what new books you added to your TBR. 🙂

  1. OMYGOSH! YES to all 3 Ashley lol! I recently added Six Stories & WIndfall but I have had my eye on Wicked Like Wildifre for months (hopes for an arc lol) cuz it sounds AMAZING & that cover is GORGE! I was tempted to spend some Penguin First To Read Coins for Windfall cuz it does sound like a ton of fun but alas, practicing some more of that self control smh. I hope you enjoy these new reads & YAY for the Netgalley approval cuz that’s ALWAYS fun 😉

    • I am pretty much obsessed with the cover for Wicked Like a Wildfire. I hope it’s as amazing as the cover! 🙂 I hope I can get my hands on Six Stories and Wicked Like a Wildfire ASAP! I’m hoping for an ARC too lol. I’m super stoked about Windfall though. Good job with the self control, haha! I’ve been requesting a ton on Netgalley again, sigh. lol. I’m trying to be good about not buying so many books this year though. So I’ve been trying to read them as ARCs first before buying them or checking out books from my library. That way I can buy my favorites in case I end up not liking something. So I am starting to get a little bit of self control on the book buying front. haha. 😛

      • We are on the same wave length then Ashley! lol i’ve been buying books that I love after having read them as ARCS more often now. The problem is that I’m so deep in my backlog of arcs that I basically can’t read anything that’s not an arc lol smh (NEVER AGAIN!) I shall keep my fingers crossed for both of us on the Wicked Like Wildfire front 😉

      • Hopefully you can catch up on your backlog, so you can read non-arcs soon too! I remember when I first started on Netgalley and I went crazy requesting everything. Worst mistake, haha. Now I’ve been a lot more picky with what I request, so I don’t drown in ARCs again lol.

      • Lmao! The sad part is that it’s been a year & I haven’t learn d my lesson smfh 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣🤣🤣but yea trying to catch up so that I can read from my personal library is one of my goals…even if it takes me all of 2017 to accomplish it lol.

  2. I’ve heard great things about Six Stories and it’s on my wishlist as well… And that cover of Wicked Like Wildfire is GORGEOUS. ❤ ❤ Great finds!

    • Glad to see that Wicked Like a Wildfire is on your TBR as well! It sounds so good! 🙂 Six Stories sounds like it’s going to be really great.
