More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera
5 out of 5 stars.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be happy until I figure out who I am and it comes down to me not being a hundred percent happy with the life I have.”

Goodreads Description: In the months after his father’s suicide, it’s been tough for 16-year-old Aaron Soto to find happiness again–but he’s still gunning for it. With the support of his girlfriend Genevieve and his overworked mom, he’s slowly remembering what that might feel like. But grief and the smile-shaped scar on his wrist prevent him from forgetting completely.  When Genevieve leaves for a couple of weeks, Aaron spends all his time hanging out with this new guy, Thomas. Aaron’s crew notices, and they’re not exactly thrilled. But Aaron can’t deny the happiness Thomas brings or how Thomas makes him feel safe from himself, despite the tensions their friendship is stirring with his girlfriend and friends. Since Aaron can’t stay away from Thomas or turn off his newfound feelings for him, he considers turning to the Leteo Institute’s revolutionary memory-alteration procedure to straighten himself out, even if it means forgetting who he truly is.  Why does happiness have to be so hard?

Why did it take me almost two years to read this book? I am pretty sure I bought this on (or close to) release day back in 2015 and then I bought a million books after it and it sat on my shelf. I regret not reading this book right away, because it was amazing.

It was perfect and it ripped my heart into a million pieces to the point that I don’t think it’ll ever be okay. I laughed so much. I smiled so much. I cried so much. So many damn feels! So many! I loved it from the first page. It was so hard to put down and I flew through it in two days. I loved the characters and the friendships. It reminded me of all my friends when I was a kid running around the neighborhood play games and just having fun together. I loved Aaron and Thomas’ friendship so much. I was rooting for Aaron and wanted him to have his happy ending.

There was a twist in the book that I did not see coming, but then as I read I started to put the pieces together from the beginning of the story. Ahhh it was just so good, you guys! Aaron wanted happiness so badly and I wanted him to have it. I wanted him to have the world, because boy did he deserve it. I’m not really sure how I feel about the ending, but I don’t want to give anything away so I can’t properly say what I want to say. You should really go read this book if you haven’t though, so we can talk about that ending!

Overall, I loved it. I loved the story, the characters, it was so hard to put down. It was also really quote worthy. I was sticking flags everywhere, lol. I highly recommend reading it if you haven’t read it yet. It’ll make you laugh and it’ll make you cry, but it’s so damn good and worth it all. Curse myself for not reading it sooner! It did leave me more happy than not though even if it did rip my heart into pieces.

“Memories: some can be sucker punching, others carry you forward; some stay with you forever, others you forget on your own. You can’t really know which ones you’ll survive if you don’t stay on the battlefield, bad times shooting at you like bullets. But if you’re lucky, you’ll have plenty of good times to shield you.”

The bookmark I used while reading this book pretty much sums up my feelings for the book. I don’t know if my heart will be okay after this read!

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a review on a book I read. I think the last one was in February for Goodbye Days, oops. I need to jump back into the swing of things with my reviews.

I am starting Bang by Barry Lyga today and I will definitely have a review for that one since it was just released this week. I also LOVE Barry Lyga so much. I have a feeling it’s going to be hard to put down and I’ll have it finished by the end of the weekend…maybe even tonight.

In case you missed it;

    • Thank you! I regret not picking it up soon, it was so so good! 🙂 I am so stoked to be reading Bang! I’m a little over 100 pages into it and really like it so far. Hopefully I’ll have it finished in the next day or two and get a review up for it. LOVE LYGA ever since Jasper Dent too. I’m hoping to meet him in NYC in June! Crossing my fingers.
