Book Haul|| April.

bookhaul3

Hi! 🙂

I was pretty good this month with not getting a ton of books! I’m proud of myself, because there are SO MANY BOOKS that I really want to buy. Last month’s haul was pretty insane compared to this one, lol. Here’s my April book haul…

Bang by Barry Lyga
Fireworks by Katie Cotugno (ARC)
The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli

I’ve been dying to get my hands on Bang. It was one of my most anticipated books of the year. I’ll have my review linked at the end of the post. It sadly didn’t live completely up to my expectations and hopes. I also bought The Upside of Unrequited. I’m super stoked to have it, because I loved Simon VS so much. I won an ARC of Fireworks on Goodreads, which is exciting. I’ve enjoyed the other books from Katie Cotugno, so I’m looking forward to reading this one.

The Onyx Vial by Alexis Lampley

I got this book in my one-time Nerdy Post box. I’ll have my blog post linked down below if you want to see more about Nerdy Post and the boxes that I got this month; in case you missed it. I didn’t have a picture of it by itself, so I’m reusing this one. I can’t wait to dive into it, it sounds really good.

E-Books:

I may have possibly gone a little overboard with the e-book deals this month. I’ve been pretty good about not buying e-books lately, but this month I caved and got nine of them.

americangirlsdreamologygirlinpiecesOPENLYSTRAIGHTasleep

American Girls by Alison Umminger
Dreamology by Lucy Keating
Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow
Openly Straight by Bill Konigsberg
Asleep by Krystal Wad

Four Minutes by Barry Lyga
The Foxhole Court

The Raven King by Nora Sakavic
The King’s Men by Nora Sakavic

Netgalley eARCs:

I decided to request some books on Netgalley since it’s been awhile since I’ve done that. Here are a couple of the ones that I was approved for so far. I still have some other pending requests as well. I’ll be reading these two in May, so I can get my reviews up before they release.

AMISHGUYSDONTCALLONEOFUSISLYING

Amish Guys Don’t Call by Debby Dodds
(releases June 13th)
One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus
(releases May 30th)

I read the first chapter of One of Us Is Lying and it’s pretty interesting. Not going to lie though, I’m nervous about all the multiple POVs. So far there is 3 POVs, but I’m thinking there is going to be at least four of them. I’m not a huge fan of books with a lot of POVs, but hopefully this one works for me. It gives off a little bit of a Breakfast Club vibe and I love that movie so much. Amish Guys Don’t Call sounds  pretty good. I am also fascinated by the Amish for some reason, lol. I think it’ll be a fun YA contemporary read.

Have you read any of the books that I got in April? What are some of the books that you got this month? Feel free to link me to your haul posts, so I can check them out!

My April book haul wasn’t too crazy, so that’s good. Next month I’m only expecting to get two books. I have two pre-orders for May, but I don’t think I’ll be getting anything other than those two. BUT you never know. 😛 I’ll have my wrap up post for the month of April posted on Monday.

Monthly Subscriptions|| April.

monthlysubscriptions1Hi! 🙂

I am back to share with you the subscriptions that I get each month. I don’t always get subscription boxes each month, but this month I got two different Nerdy Post boxes. I’ll jump right into them!

Nerdy Post:

Nerdy Post is a fandom based subscription service that sends out hand lettering art and other goodies (bookmarks, pins, magnets, stickers, notepads, posters, etc.) with quotes from the monthly themed fandom.

APRIL THEME: Middle Earth

I am a HUGE Lord of the Rings and the Hobbits fan, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get the April box.

Postcard you can color

Here are a few close ups of some of the items that were in the box. First picture is the washi tape and coin (currency from that world); I am obsessed with washi tape and the coin is pretty cool. Second picture is the large print; I am a little disappointed with the print because she’s done better prints and this one kind of just looks too plain for me compared to past ones she’s done. I love the quote on it though. Third picture is the large bookmark; it’s double sided and that’s both sides. Last picture is the small bookmark; that was double sided as well and I am obsessed with the quotes on it. Overall, I am pretty happy about about this box.

Alexis (creator of Nerdy Post) was having a one-time box this month as well that included a signed copy of her book, so I got that one too. Her book sounds really good, so I am excited to have it. She designed the entire book cover, which is really cool.

All of the things that she designed and created that was included in this box go along with the book. There’s a quote print and a large print. I am obsessed with the large print. I also really like the bookmark. It’s double sided, but I only took a picture of the one side. Oops. Both sides are equally as cool though.

Goodreads Description: Fifteen-year-old Ariana Emory hides a rare and forbidden talent: she creates portals between worlds in the pages of books. These portal books are dangerous. But to Ariana, they are freedom. Her world is one of several ruled by a tyrant king. The books are banned and burned, their creators along with them. She wants nothing more than to keep creating them, so that her fellow countrymen can have means of escape and, if she succeeds, rebellion. Driven by that desire, Ariana disregards the dangers and entangles herself in a rebel society’s plot to regain freedom. Along the way, her fate collides with Hunter Woodworth and Killian Fyrenn, identical twin sons of the king. The king and the rebels are after a deadly weapon, known as the Onyx Vial. The king wants to use it, the rebels want to destroy it. The rebels’ success depends on Ariana partnering with the boys, but they are worlds apart and she is convinced their motives aren’t pure. With the king closing in on the location of the vial, time is running out. Ariana must trust them or uncover their true intentions before it’s too late. The fate of the worlds rest in her hands.

That’s all for this month’s subscriptions. I am currently only subscribed to Nerdy Post actively, but sometimes I skip boxes if I don’t like the theme. Are you subscribed to any bookish (or non-bookish) subscription boxes?

I’ll have my April book haul posted tomorrow. It’s surprising really small. I did get quite a few ebooks though. I’ll have my April wrap up posted probably on Monday. Hopefully I’ll get another book finished before then.

Bang by Barry Lyga
3.5 out of 5 stars.

“Harry Potter is the boy who lived, and I’m the boy who killed.”

Goodreads Description: A chunk of old memory, adrift in a pool of blood. Sebastian Cody did something horrible, something no one–not even Sebastian himself–can forgive. At the age of four, he accidentally shot and killed his infant sister with his father’s gun. Now, ten years later, Sebastian has lived with the guilt and horror for his entire life. With his best friend away for the summer, Sebastian has only a new friend–Aneesa–to distract him from his darkest thoughts. But even this relationship cannot blunt the pain of his past. Because Sebastian knows exactly how to rectify his childhood crime and sanctify his past.  It took a gun to get him into this. Now he needs a gun to get out.

Bang was one of my most anticipated releases of the year, because you all know by now that Barry Lyga is one of my favorite authors. Sadly, I was a bit underwhelmed with Bang.

I wanted to love this one so badly, but I didn’t. I found it to be a little boring at times. I flew through it in about a day and a half, because the chapters are so short. Some chapters were only a couple sentences long. Although I didn’t love it as much as I hoped I would, I did still like it.  I really liked Sebastian and I felt so bad for him, because he was struggling with his guilt from accidentally killing his baby sister. How do you even move past that? I can’t even imagine how hard that must feel even if it was an accident and you didn’t know what you were doing.

“Our lives are the sum of our mistakes as well as our triumphs.”

Aneesa was the perfect distraction for Sebastian and I really enjoyed her character. I really liked her parents too. Sebastian’s parents, not so much. Although Bang was really sad, it did have a lot of fun happy moments. I was rooting for Sebastian. It also had ALL THE PIZZA! Lots of pizza in this book and I mean LOTS! Breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert. You all know how much I love pizza. If anything, this book gave me a lot of new pizza recipe ideas! 😛 Overall, I thought Bang was a good read even though I didn’t love it as much as I hoped I would. I would still recommend reading this book.

“Each time you start to lose momentum, you look ahead to the next vine. And you jump for it, Sebastian. You don’t think about it; you don’t worry about it. You jump and you trust that you have the strength and the momentum to grasp that next vine.”

More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera
5 out of 5 stars.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be happy until I figure out who I am and it comes down to me not being a hundred percent happy with the life I have.”

Goodreads Description: In the months after his father’s suicide, it’s been tough for 16-year-old Aaron Soto to find happiness again–but he’s still gunning for it. With the support of his girlfriend Genevieve and his overworked mom, he’s slowly remembering what that might feel like. But grief and the smile-shaped scar on his wrist prevent him from forgetting completely.  When Genevieve leaves for a couple of weeks, Aaron spends all his time hanging out with this new guy, Thomas. Aaron’s crew notices, and they’re not exactly thrilled. But Aaron can’t deny the happiness Thomas brings or how Thomas makes him feel safe from himself, despite the tensions their friendship is stirring with his girlfriend and friends. Since Aaron can’t stay away from Thomas or turn off his newfound feelings for him, he considers turning to the Leteo Institute’s revolutionary memory-alteration procedure to straighten himself out, even if it means forgetting who he truly is.  Why does happiness have to be so hard?

Why did it take me almost two years to read this book? I am pretty sure I bought this on (or close to) release day back in 2015 and then I bought a million books after it and it sat on my shelf. I regret not reading this book right away, because it was amazing.

It was perfect and it ripped my heart into a million pieces to the point that I don’t think it’ll ever be okay. I laughed so much. I smiled so much. I cried so much. So many damn feels! So many! I loved it from the first page. It was so hard to put down and I flew through it in two days. I loved the characters and the friendships. It reminded me of all my friends when I was a kid running around the neighborhood play games and just having fun together. I loved Aaron and Thomas’ friendship so much. I was rooting for Aaron and wanted him to have his happy ending.

There was a twist in the book that I did not see coming, but then as I read I started to put the pieces together from the beginning of the story. Ahhh it was just so good, you guys! Aaron wanted happiness so badly and I wanted him to have it. I wanted him to have the world, because boy did he deserve it. I’m not really sure how I feel about the ending, but I don’t want to give anything away so I can’t properly say what I want to say. You should really go read this book if you haven’t though, so we can talk about that ending!

Overall, I loved it. I loved the story, the characters, it was so hard to put down. It was also really quote worthy. I was sticking flags everywhere, lol. I highly recommend reading it if you haven’t read it yet. It’ll make you laugh and it’ll make you cry, but it’s so damn good and worth it all. Curse myself for not reading it sooner! It did leave me more happy than not though even if it did rip my heart into pieces.

IMG_7326

“Memories: some can be sucker punching, others carry you forward; some stay with you forever, others you forget on your own. You can’t really know which ones you’ll survive if you don’t stay on the battlefield, bad times shooting at you like bullets. But if you’re lucky, you’ll have plenty of good times to shield you.”

The bookmark I used while reading this book pretty much sums up my feelings for the book. I don’t know if my heart will be okay after this read!

IMG_7325

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a review on a book I read. I think the last one was in February for Goodbye Days, oops. I need to jump back into the swing of things with my reviews.

I am starting Bang by Barry Lyga today and I will definitely have a review for that one since it was just released this week. I also LOVE Barry Lyga so much. I have a feeling it’s going to be hard to put down and I’ll have it finished by the end of the weekend…maybe even tonight.

Random|| Update & Pictures.

Hi! 🙂

I have a big picture post for you guys! It’s been almost a month since I’ve done one. I think the last one was just before my wedding. I want to share more wedding pictures too, but I probably won’t do that this post. I’m waiting to see the pictures that I get from the photographer. Anyway, onto the picture! It’s a mix of random pictures and bookish pictures.

For the bachelorette party, we decided to go to Key West. Stopped along the way to get pictures. We topped on the seven mile bridge to get a picture of the water. The last picture is the sunset when we were out at the bars. So pretty! We saw this HUGE mermaid along the way and I had to get a picture of that, so we stopped there.

mom, me, older sister, younger sister, amanda, christina, and aunt.

IMG_6543

We camped when we were in Key West instead of staying at a hotel. Our campsite was right on the water. I don’t have the picture on my phone anymore to post here, but a HUGE iguana crawled right out of the water. It was pretty crazy. They just chill out there and in the bathrooms. I seen one try to get into someone else’s tent.

Here’s a random picture of my wedding cake. We had a Doctor Who cake topper, because we both LOVE Doctor Who. I also had macrons at my wedding and they were so good! I am dying to go get some more and they are my new obsession.

Speaking of new obsessions, why didn’t anyone tell me that the bath bombs from Lush are so freaking HUGE! I was like “WTF”. I feel like I’ve been lied to all my life with the ones that I’ve been buying on Etsy or Target. They are TINY compared to the ones you get from Lush. I plan to order more ASAP.

IMG_6706

A week after being married and on our way to the pizza festival, which sucked badly. We didn’t even stay for it and ended up going out to eat somewhere else instead.

So I moved my bookshelves again, hahah. I swear I move them at least once a month. Our bedroom is really odd shaped, so I ended up putting all my bookshelves and my chaise in the area in our bedroom that is never used and I really love this new setup so much! I am in love with my new tapestry too. Such pretty colors. 😀 I am pretty happy with this new setup. Now I just need to get two more black bookcases to replace the brown ones I have, so they all match.

Just some randoms. A little dandelion puff. A sea shell. A pine cone. I found the pine cone at the park where the pizza festival was being held. That was probably the best part of the day, because I hadn’t seen one in years.

I finished The Darkest Minds on Thursday, it was so amazing and everything I hoped it would be and why the heck did I not read it sooner? It crushed my heart. I started PS I Like You on Friday morning and finished it Friday night. I read the entire day and couldn’t put it down. I loved it so freaking much! Ahhh it was so cute. I am currently reading Isla and the Happily Ever After now and it’s great so far.

It’s not a picture post without these three. Dax, ColbyJack, October. These three are pretty amazing. 😀 Oh and here are some other furbabies that I love….

The outside kitty, which I am obsessed with. She always hangs around our house and she’s so cute and sweet. She probably sticks around because I feed her though, let’s be real. 😛 And DIGBY! We watched Andy’s parents’ dog for a week, which was fun. October wasn’t really fond of him much, but it was all good. He’s so cuddly and I wish my furbabies were.

Other random pictures. Hanging out by the pool. The weather was really nice. And taking Dax on a walk before work the other day.

IMG_7099

The new season of Doctor Who started on Saturday and I loved the first episode so much. I think I am really going to love the new companion. She reminds me of a mix of Rose, Martha, and Donna. I was telling Andy that she has all three personalities and it’s perfect! I even got teary eyed a couple times during the first episode, lol. I am really looking forward to this new season, except that it’s Capaldi’s last season. I am not ready for him to go. I love him so much as the Doctor and I don’t think he’s had enough time as the Doctor. He’s my second favorite after Ten. 😦

How was your Easter if you celebrate? What’s your favorite Easter candy? Mine is Cadbury Mini Eggs. If you don’t celebrate Easter, how was your Sunday? What’s your favorite non-holiday Candy? 😀

WWW Wednesday is a weekly MEME hosted by Taking on a World of Words. Simply answer the following questions. :)

 The three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

*Goodreads linked below.

Hello!

Ahhh, it’s been two months since I’ve done a WWW post! I haven’t been reading as much as I usually do this year, but that was of course due to all the wedding stuff. Now that my wedding is over, hopefully that’ll change soon! I’m still pretty busy these days trying to catch up on everything and Kingdom Hearts is taking over my life! 😛 I’ve missed that game so much and so happy to be replaying them again. I believe I’m almost done with the first game and then I’ll start my replay on the next one. Anyway…BOOKS! So here’s what I’ve been reading:

Currently Reading:

darkestminds

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

I am finally reading The Darkest Minds…OMG! 😛 I’ve had this on my TBR for years and collecting dust on my shelves for so long. I decided to finally dust it off and open it up. I am currently halfway through and I am really enjoying it. I love Chubs! I am hoping to have this book finished this week.

Recently Finished:

crystalstorm

Crystal Storm by Morgan Rhodes

This series means the world to me and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. Crystal Storm was everything I hoped it would be and MORE! The cliffhanger at the end was pretty insane. I love the Falling Kingdoms series so much. It’s definitely at the top of my favorites list.

Reading Next:

psilikeyoufireworksisla

P.S. I Like You by Kasie West
Fireworks by Katie Cotugno
Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

I am having a hard time choosing between these three, but I feel in the mood to read some YA contemporaries. Maybe I’ll read them all back to back. I don’t think I have read anything by Kasie West, but I have a few of her other books. P.S. I Like You sounds really good. Last year I read two of Cotugno’s books and became addicted to them, haha. I was stoked when I won an ARC giveaway on Goodreads for Fireworks! I really enjyoed the first two Anna and the French Kiss books, so I’m looking forward to Isla and the Happily Every After. Comment below which of these three do you think I should read first? 🙂

What are you currently reading? Recently finished? Reading next? Have you read any of these books? Let me know and link me to your posts if you have one!

Friday Finds #61.

fridayfinds

FRIDAY FINDS showcases the books you ‘found’ and added to your To Be Read (TBR) list… whether you found them online, or in a bookstore, or in the library — wherever! (they aren’t necessarily books you purchased).

Hi!

It’s been almost a month since I’ve done a Friday Finds post, so I thought it was a good time to finally do one. I haven’t really been adding new books to my Goodreads TBR in awhile, which is why there has been a lack of these posts on my blog lately. Today I have four books to share with you guys and since it’s not many, I decided to include the Goodreads description in the post as well as my thoughts/first impressions of the books. Onto the books! You can see more of my TBR over on my Goodreads account over here and feel free to add me as a friend!

theseafarerskiss The Seafarer’s Kiss by Julie Ember

The book cover, OMG! It’s so pretty and I am obsessed with it. It sounds like such a great book too. I add a lot of books to my Goodreads TBR, but I don’t always buy them. I decided to preorder this one, because it sounds so so good and the cover is amazing.

Goodreads Description: Having long-wondered what lives beyond the ice shelf, nineteen-year-old mermaid Ersel learns of the life she wants when she rescues and befriends Ragna, a shield-maiden stranded on the mermen’s glacier. But when Ersel’s childhood friend and suitor catches them together, he gives Ersel a choice: say goodbye to Ragna or face justice at the hands of the glacier’s brutal king. Determined to forge a different fate, Ersel seeks help from Loki. But such deals are never as one expects, and the outcome sees her exiled from the only home and protection she’s known. To save herself from perishing in the barren, underwater wasteland and be reunited with the human she’s come to love, Ersel must try to outsmart the God of Lies.

houseoffuriesHouse of Furies by Madeleine Roux

I’ve read the first two books in the Asylum series and I really liked them and hope to read the others this year. Madeleine has this new book coming out and it sounds awesome! It’ll also have pictures and illustrations like Asylum too! I am super stoked about it. I don’t read a lot of horror, but I do generally love them when I do.

Goodreads Description: After escaping a harsh school where punishment was the lesson of the day, seventeen-year-old Louisa Ditton is thrilled to find employment as a maid at a boarding house. But soon after her arrival at Coldthistle House, Louisa begins to realize that the house’s mysterious owner, Mr. Morningside, is providing much more than lodging for his guests. Far from a place of rest, the house is a place of judgment, and Mr. Morningside and his unusual staff are meant to execute their own justice on those who are past being saved. Louisa begins to fear for a young man named Lee who is not like the other guests. He is charismatic and kind, and Louisa knows that it may be up to her to save him from an untimely judgment. But in this house of distortions and lies, how can Louisa be sure whom to trust?

theressomeoneinyourhouseThere’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins

Honestly, I’m just curious how Stephanie Perkins is going to go from cute lovey contemporaries to this horror type book. I read the first two Anna and the French Kiss books and enjoyed them, so I really want to see how she does in this genre. It also sounds pretty good and I am digging the book cover. I seen an article online that they actually created this cover by building those little stairs and using lights to get the words to to reflect on the wall that they built around the stairs. Pretty awesome!

Goodreads Description: One-by-one, the students of Osborne High are dying in a series of gruesome murders, each with increasing and grotesque flair. As the terror grows closer and the hunt intensifies for the killer, the dark secrets among them must finally be confronted. International bestselling author Stephanie Perkins returns with a fresh take on the classic teen slasher story that’s fun, quick-witted, and completely impossible to put down.

theunlikelies The Unlikelies by Carrie Firestone

I am pretty sure I am obsessed with book covers that have ice cream on them. That’s exactly why I was drawn to this book at first, to be honest. I also tend to buy all the books with ice cream on the covers. It sounds like a fun read though. I’m sure this will eventually end up in my possession. I hope it comes with a free lime popsicle, because that one on the cover looks amazing.

Goodreads Description: Rising high school senior Sadie is bracing herself for a long, lonely, and boring summer. But things take an unexpected turn when she steps in to help rescue a baby in distress and a video of her good deed goes viral. Suddenly internet-famous, Sadie’s summer changes for the better when she’s introduced to other “hometown heroes.” These five very different teens form an unlikely alliance to secretly right local wrongs, but when they try to help a heroin-using friend, they get in over their heads and discover that there might be truth in the saying “no good deed goes unpunished.” Can Sadie and her new friends make it through the summer with their friendships–and anonymity–intact?

Book Haul|| March.

BOOKHAUL

Hello!

Finally posting my March book haul! I ended up with quite the haul this month. I did have a birthday though, so a lot of them were birthday gifts. I am going to jump straight into my March book haul. I took last minute pictures, so the quality/lighting isn’t the greatest for my pictures this time around. Onto my haul!

Birthday Presents:

Red Rising by Pierce Brown
PS. I Like You by Kasie West
Kids of Appetite by David Arnold
Every Hidden Thing by Kenneth Oppel
A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
The Maze Runner by James Dashner
The Scorch Trials by James Dashner
The Death Cure by James Dashner
The Kill Order by James Dashner

I mentioned I had a birthday in March (the 3rd) and my friends sent me some books! I am super stoked with all of the books that they gifted me. They are books that I have been dying to read. I read the Maze Runner series already (and loved it, minus the ending), but I didn’t own it so my friend Shelbie sent me her copies since she didn’t want them anymore. Super stoked to have them!

Amazon:

IMG_6778

Renegade Red by Lauren Bird Horowitz x3
*Paperback, Hardcover, and E-Book*
Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken

Lots of new releases this month that I had to get my hands on! I also got an amazing deal on Wayferer. I don’t typically like to buy sequels if I didn’t read the first book, but it was on sale on Amazon for $6. I couldn’t pass it up. I read and loved Renegade Red; I got the Warrior cover for both the paperback and the hardcover. Now onto my search for the other covers.

The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon
Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner

I loved Goodbye Days so much and Jeff Zentner sent me a signed bookmark and signed bookplate for preordering Goodbye Days. I thought I missed the opportunity, but I DMed him on Twitter and he said he would send me them! I also got a signed special edition of The Song Rising. I LIVE FOR THIS SERIES AND WARDEN.

Barnes & Noble:

IMG_6777

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
The End of Oz by Danielle Paige
Dorothy Must Die: Stories Vol. 3 by Danielle Paige

I’ve been dying to read The Hate U Give since I heard about it and finally got a copy. I can’t wait to pick this one up soon. You all know I love the Dorothy Must Die series, so I had to get the new one. I decided to go with getting it from Barnes and Noble, because their edition has an exclusive epilogue in it. I didn’t buy any of the new ebook novellas for the series, because I knew I would also be buying Stories Volume 3 at some point that has them all in it like I have with all the others. Super stoked to read the novellas and The End of Oz.

IMG_6783

That’s all for my March book haul. I got quite a lot of books this month, but a little over half were gifted to me at least, lol. It didn’t set me back too much. I’ve been so good this year with not going crazy. I will say that there is about 15 books on Book Outlet right now that I have been dying to buy, but luckily I have stayed away. I can’t make any promises later in the year though once I catch up from all the wedding and honeymoon stuff. 😛

Have you read any of the books that I got in March? Feel free to link me to your haul posts, so I can check them out!

What are you guys currently reading right now? I started two books; The Song Rising and The Darkest Minds. I’ve kind of hit a reading slump though and I’ve been replaying all the Kingdom Hearts games before the release of the new game in December, so I haven’t been reading much. I don’t completely remember the story line since it’s been so long since I’ve played the games, so I decided to buy a PS2 and all of the games for it and my Nintendo DS so I can replay them. Super stoked! I think I already put in about 20 hours of game play since getting it Friday, lol.
