Recap|| January.

First off, I reached 800 followers this month on my blog! I am so stoked and so appreciative of you all! Thank you! 😀

I am posting this a couple days early, because I don’t think I will be finishing any other books this month. It’s been one busy month for me, so I didn’t get to read a whole lot. I was also battling a bit of a reading slump after reading Renegade Red. I did get quite a bit accomplished this month as far as my wedding goes though! I think I work better last minute and under pressure, hah. 😛

Here’s what I read this month and what I am still currently reading and hoping to finish next month. You can find a full list of these books and the other books I read this year over here. All will be linked to Goodreads below and I will also link to individual blog posts for them if I did a review.

Physically Read Books:
These are the books that I read by myself (not audiobooks) throughout the month of January.

Renegade Red by Lauren Bird Horowitz – Review. – 5 out of 5 stars.
Renegade Red is the sequel to Shattered Blue and it was such an amazing sequel. So many twists and turns. I had no idea what was going on. When thought I had it figured it, nope…haha. Feel free to check out my review for more. Also, in case you missed it, you can join the Renegade Red blog tour. You’ll get an ARC of the book and you’ll also be entered into a few awesome giveaways. Check out my blog post (JOIN the Renegade Red Blog Tour!) for more information on how to join the blog tour and enter the giveaways!

The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye – Review. – 4.5 out of 5 stars.
I really enjoyed the book. It was a fun read and a good cast of characters. The ending left off with a little bit of a cliffhanger, so I am super stoked to see what happens next. I am also glad that I loved this book, because now I can buy the second book. I am obsessed with the cover of the second book and now I can’t wait to get it for my shelves, haha. Feel free to check out my review for more.

These are the books that I listened to the audio versions throughout the month of January.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater – 4 out of 5 stars.
I really liked The Raven Boys a lot and I can’t wait to get my hands on the other books. I decided to give the audiobook a shot, so if I ended up liking it then I could go buy all the books in the series, because the covers are amazing.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher – 3  out of 5 stars.
I’ve had Thirteen Reasons Why on my TBR for a very long time. It was okay. I wasn’t blown away by it though. I am curious to see how it plays out in the Netflix original series that I believe is coming out soon for it though.

Currently Reading:
These are the books that I started in the month of January, but have not finished yet.

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon
The Complete Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway

I started buddy reading the Bone Season with Maren (The Wornbookmark) and Shelbie. It’s such a good book so far. I am about 150 pages into it. I am pretty intrigued by it. I’ve been taking a bit of a break in between to read some of the Hemingway stories as well.

What did you read this month? Have you read any of the books that I read? Feel free to link me to your wrap up posts!

I will have my book haul posted in the next day or two. I still need to take the pictures of my books and I am currently still waiting on one that is being released tomorrow, so be on the look out for that post soon! 🙂

I hope you have a great Monday!

WWW Wednesday #32.

WWW Wednesday is a weekly MEME hosted by Taking on a World of Words. Simply answer the following questions. :)

 The three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

*Goodreads linked below.

It has been quite awhile since I’ve done one of these posts! I’ve been pretty busy all month so far with getting the last of the wedding planning done. My wedding is coming up so soon!! March 25th, ahhhh! I haven’t been reading a whole lot, but I am still managing to read a bit. A little is better than not at all! 😛 Here’s what I’ve been reading this month.

Currently Reading:

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

I am buddy reading The Bone Season with Maren (The Worn Bookmark) and Shelbie. I’m only about 50 pages into it, but it seems interesting. Lots of things to remember though, which is a bit annoying.

Recently Finished:

The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye
Renegade Red by Lauren Bird Horowitz

The Crown’s Game was so good! I really enjoyed that one. Renegade Red is the sequel to Shattered Blue and it was such an amazing sequel. So many twists and turns. I had no idea what was going on. When thought I had it figured it, nope…haha. Check out my reviews for both! The Crown’s Game review. Renegade Red review. I also listened to a couple audiobooks as well, but I’ll save those for my January recap post.

Reading Next:

Crystal Storm by Morgan Rhodes
This Girl by Colleen Hoover

I am not sure what I want to read next, but I am leaning toward Crystal Storm, because I really want to see what happens next. I also kept saying I would read it in January, well January is almost over, lol. If not Crystal Storm, then maybe a contemporary. I usually can read those pretty quickly. I read the first couple chapters of This Girl by Colleen Hoover, so maybe I’ll pick that one back up.

What are you currently reading? Recently finished? Reading next? Have you read any of these books? Let me know and link me to your posts if you have one!

Thoughts|| The Crown’s Game.

The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye
4.5 out of 5 stars.

“Imagine, and it shall be. There are no limits.”

Goodreads Description: Vika Andreyeva can summon the snow and turn ash into gold. Nikolai Karimov can see through walls and conjure bridges out of thin air. They are enchanters—the only two in Russia—and with the Ottoman Empire and the Kazakhs threatening, the tsar needs a powerful enchanter by his side. And so he initiates the Crown’s Game, an ancient duel of magical skill—the greatest test an enchanter will ever know. The victor becomes the Imperial Enchanter and the tsar’s most respected adviser. The defeated is sentenced to death. More of the description here…it’s a really big description.

I finally read The Crown’s Game! It was a book that I REALLY wanted to read last year, but never got around to it. It was actually my TBR jar book draw this month and I am so glad it got picked.

It took me a little longer than I expected to read it, but that’s because I’ve been battling a small reading slump this month. The times I did pick it up to read, it was so easy to read and easy to fly through pages. I seen some mixed reviews on this book, but I personally loved it. I loved the world, I loved the different magic, and most of the characters.

Nikolai and Pasha’s friendship was hands down one of my favorites. I actually at one point totally shipped them and wanted them to be together, lol. Perfect bromance. I’m not a huge fan of Vika and I disliked that there is a little love triangle going on. I am not a huge love triangle fan in books, so warning if you don’t like love triangles. It was still a good book regardless, especially for Nikolai and Pasha. Their friendship made it worth it.

The magic! I loved that Vika and Nikolai’s magic were completely different and they could each do different things. It was fun to see what they came up with throughout the game. One thing that annoyed me a little was although the things they did during the game was cool and fun…I was expecting something different. I don’t know how to put it exactly, but I guess maybe more “angrier” things or something. It’s hard to explain without actually saying the things they did. In the game they had to impress the tsar to become his Imperial Enchanter and I felt like they could have done better things to impress him.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book.

Have you read The Crown’s Game? If so, what did you think? If not, do you think you’ll want to read it?

In case you missed it;
Two Year Blogiversary!
Thoughts|| Renegade Red (Sequel).

I hope you have a great Friday!

Two Year Blogiversary!

Hey! 😀

You guys! I’ve been blogging for two years! How exciting is that?! Honestly, I can’t believe it’s been two years. It’s been so amazing though and I’ve met so many awesome people throughout the last year years in the book community. I’ve been able to do some cool things as well. I am really looking forward to my third year of blogging! I know I’ll be a little busy in the next few months, but after that everything should be back to normal again! I honestly wouldn’t be where I am with my blog without you guys. Something else that is exciting is that I am SO CLOSE to 800 followers on here. That is HUGE, because I really didn’t think I would have this many of you lovelies reading my blog. Thank you! ❤

I am now going to share tons of pictures I’ve taken over the last few weeks, because who doesn’t love pictures? 😛

I am going to start with the most important pictures, FOOD! On the left we have some amazing pizza. The fiance and I decided to try out Davie’s Best Pizza for the second time, because it was a candidate for our wedding! I think it’s the winner. 😀 Now we need to call them up and set it all up. On the right, breakfast! I went out to eat for breakfast with my mom and aunt on the weekend. I love breakfast food.

Also over the weekend I went to my cousin’s house with my older sister so that we could do some wedding crafts. We made about 30 vases of flowers and 200 hearts. We were only able to do half of the stuff I need for the wedding. This weekend I am going to buy some more stuff, so we can finish it all. I still have about 24 more bottles I need to fill with flowers (which I need to go buy more of) and then I need to make probably another 300 of these hearts.

I am currently reading The Crown’s Game and I am actually really enjoying it a lot. I actually hate that I am kind of in a reading slump right now, because I really want to see how this ends, so I can fangirl over it and rush to order the second book because damn that book cover for the second book is gorgeous. 😛 Top right is a picture of a Nerds Rope, which is one of my favorite candies (that isn’t chocolate).

Speaking of reading, I listened to the audiobooks for The Raven Boys and Thirteen Reasons Why so far this month. I really liked The Raven Boys a lot and I can’t wait to get my hands on the other books. I decided to give the audiobook a shot, so if I ended up liking it then I could go buy all the books in the series, because the covers are amazing. I’ve had Thirteen Reasons Why on my TBR for a very long time. It was okay. I wasn’t blown away by it though.

I went to the beach a week or two ago to get some pictures of Renegade Red. It was actually a nice day out. It wasn’t crazy hot like it usually is and the waves were pretty big too. The beach is only a couple miles from my house, which is nice.

Above are a couple of the Renegade Red pictures that I took at the beach. Lauren has this thing on her website where you take pictures of her book and she adds the locations to a map on her site. Destination Shattered Blue.

I got a new Book Biff, which I am obsessed with. It’s actually my second one. It’s to protect your books, especially paperbacks. Top right is the packaging and I had to take a picture, because she always has the best packaging. Bottom right is a picture of ColbyJack forever in my way when I am trying to take bookstagram pictures. I also really need to finish this series!

I created a new Instagram (organizingashley), where I plan to document my journey of organizing my life and home. I am pretty exciting about it and maybe it’ll even motivate me to ACTUALLY do these things, because my house needs to start looking like an adult lives there. HAH. I first started by cleaning up my Pinterest account. I went from 15,000 pins to 9,500. I could probably get rid of a TON more pins, but I am very attached to my pins lol…sigh.

One of the bigger projects I did for my organizingashley Instagram was to clean my book area up and my shelves. As you can see in the top left picture, it was a straight up disaster. There was things EVERYWHERE. Look at the top of my bookshelves, it was even messier up there! On the top right you can see how they look now. All cleaned up and not a bunch of random crap everything haha. It looks MUCH nicer and the top is almost completely empty!

Here are some pictures of October and Dax. I don’t want to leave them out of the post. 😛 Plus they are so cute and I am forever obsessed with them. Dax likes to sleep with his head on pillows like humans, lol.

Feel free to add me on my Instagram accounts to see more pictures!

Bookstagram: foreverbookish_ – book Instagram account

Thank you guys again for following my blog, reading, and liking my stuff! I can’t wait to fully get back into blogging soon. 🙂

To end this post, here is a sunset. 😀

I hope you have a great day!

Top Ten Tuesday|| 2016 Releases I Meant to Read.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Top Ten 2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn’t Get To (But TOTALLY plan to).

Hello! 🙂

There are so many books that I meant to read in 2016, but never got around to them. This could probably be an almost endless post, hah. I am going to go with 2016 releases that I own that I meant to read, but didn’t. There are still SO MANY 2016 releases that I don’t own yet (and dying for).

Replica by Lauren Oliver
Crystal Storm by Morgan Rhodes
The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan
The Loose Ends List by Carrie Firestone
Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
The Love That Split the World by Emily Henry
Passenger by Alexandra Bracken
Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

When I look back on the list of books that I did read in 2016, it kind of depresses me, lol. I feel like I could have read better books than I actually did. I have no clue why I didn’t read these books last year, but I definitely want to try to make them top priority this year. One that I know for sure I will be reading soon is Crystal Storm. I hope to have that read this month. I just need to finish The Crown’s Game first, which is another 2016 release that I meant to read but didn’t.

What books did you mean to read in 2016, but didn’t? Feel free to link me to your TTT posts!

Thoughts|| Renegade Red (Sequel)
Picture Update.
Hello, 2017.

I hope you have a great day!

Thoughts|| Renegade Red (Sequel).

Renegade Red by Lauren Bird Horowitz
5 out of 5 stars.

“The smell, the feel, intoxicated; she was drunk with pages white, thirsting for ink.”

I am going to skip the Goodreads Description of this book, because I don’t want to risk giving spoilers. You need to go read Shattered Blue first! I wouldn’t read any further if you haven’t read Shattered Blue. I don’t want to risk giving spoilers, although I think it’s pretty spoiler free. Just to be safe though!

I won an ARC of Renegade Red and I was so stoked. I loved Shattered Blue so much and I was dying to see what happens next in the trilogy. Above is a closer look at the different covers that you can get Renegade Red in. As you read the book, you’ll see how all the different covers fit along with the book. Such a cool concept with the three different covers, so exciting!

One of my favorite things about Shattered Blue is that there is poetry written in the book that connects with the story as well. I was so happy to see that Renegade Red also had poetry included as well. A lot of the lines in the book even had a poetry feel to them. It all flows together nicely and it’s one of my favorite things!

“I’m a poet, Judah. Words are sacred.”

It was awesome jumping back into the Light Trilogy and getting to read more about the characters that I love, especially my fictional crush Judah! Noa was totally a “girl beast” in this book and it was awesome. She a total bad-ass and I loved it. You get to see a whole new side of Callum and Judah in this book, which I loved. In Renegade Red they are in Aurora, so it was cool getting a glimpse of Judah and Callum’s world; the fae world. Being in Aurora meant a ton of new characters! It was exciting to be introduced to new characters. Some you’ll love and some you’ll really dislike.

Noa, Judah, and Callum are on the hunt to find Noa’s sister Sasha and it gets pretty crazy throughout. Renegade Red is a lot darker (and a little creepy) than Shattered Blue was, but I loved that. It was different and cool. Renegade Red is twisted in so many ways and when you think you know what’s going on, you have no idea. I thought I had it all figured out and time after time I was shocked and surprised. I wanted to scream and I wanted to throw the book, lol. All in the best way, because it was such a good book.

Overall, Renegade Red was everything I hoped it would be and more. I loved how it all played out and I loved that it kept me on the edge of my seat every single page. Amazing. There are so many twist in this book. The ending, OMG. I am already dying for the third book. Mind-blowing! Your heart will stop and it will shatter. I am still trying to pick up the pieces.

“Love is tricky, and love is strong. Not some flower but a warrior weed, growing in any condition, through any obstacle, surviving froze tundras, pushing up through cracks in stone!”

Renegade Red will be released March 14th, so mark your calendars! If you haven’t read Shattered Blue, go pick it up now! 😀

Picture Update.
Hello, 2017!
2016 End of Year Book Survey.

I hope you have a great day!

Picture Update.

I thought I would do a picture update with the last pictures I took in 2016 (and a few from the last few days). If you follow me on my Instagram accounts (heyyitsashley OR foreverbookish_) then you may have seen some of these.

I am starting with these pictures from when my sister, the fiance, and I went to the food trucks that our town has every Monday. We all ate from the BBQ truck. I had BBQ pulled pork mac & cheese. It was amazing!  A little too spicy toward the end since I was pretty much shoveling it in my mouth as if it had been years since I’ve eaten, LOL. It was so good. There was a pretty sunset too and a giant Christmas tree. I love food, sunsets, and Christmas trees.

You guys!! LOOK WHAT I GOT! *heart eyes for days*. It’s an ARC of Renegade Red!! The sequel to Shattered Blue. I am 40 pages away from finishing it and I am so stoked. It’s so good, you guys! I made this little picture to the right from one of the pages in the book, because seriously this book is so twisted!

The fiance and I recently got a new bed frame, mattress, and some pretty awesome new bedding. I feel like I got one of those cool bedroom setups that you see floating around Tumblr, lol. My sister got me this blue tapestry for Christmas and I stumbled across matching bedding on Amazon and I was like “YESSSS that’s mine! CLICK!”. I am so obsessed with it and so is my cat ColbyJack!

He is almost 24/7 on the bed now, which is rare for him. I’m cool with this, because I wish my animals were more cuddly. This was totally a double win for us, because I can’t seem to get him to get off it. 😛

The family & I went out for NYE. We bought some picture props and it was a lot of fun. Here’s a group shot of us and we kind of threw a ton of confetti all over the bar, haha. I bet they hated us when we left and they had to clean it all up. OOPS. 😛 It was so fun though! The hangover the next day was not fun though.

Here are some more NYE pictures. Top left is me & my younger sister. Top right is the fiance & me. Bottom is me & my older sister. Fun times! 😀

More furbaby pictures, because I am obsessed with them as you all know. Left is October and one of those rare times where she wants to be around me. Right top all three of them. Dax happy it’s Christmas and October & ColbyJack playing with their new toys. Right bottom is just CJ being a bum on my bed before I made it.

More pretty sky pictures. I am forever trying to get good pictures of the sky. It’s one of my many obsessions. Sometimes Florida has good sunsets. It just depends where you are. I live in a city that has a lot of buildings and trees and houses, so it’s not always easy to get good pictures.

I got some cool Everything, Everything/The Sun Is Also a Star swag last week. Pins, tattoos, and an art print. And my newly updated TBR jar. I currently have a poll happening on Twitter right now that involved my TBR jar. If you want to join in, head over there (whoa_itsashley) or comment below with a color. The color with the most votes will be the color I pick from to read next.

That’s all for this post! In case you missed it, I have a post up with some new changes and additions to my blog and reading challenge for 2017. You can check it out of over here (Hello, 2017.)

I hope you have a great day! 🙂

Hello, 2017!

Hi! 😀

I said I was going to do a post for 2017 goals that I want to accomplish this year, but I’m not sure I am going to do that. I am setting pretty small goals for this year, because I feel like this year is going to be another crazy year for me. One of the main things I really want to do is be more active on here and to write more reviews.

Over the weekend I spent about five hours updating blog pages and updating my TBR jar, so that I can use that this year. I’ll talk about about that later in the post. See below for some new updates!

2017 read books. – This will be where I list all the books that I read throughout the year and they will be linked to Goodreads and review posts I do for them. It will also be where you can find all my monthly recap posts and challenges. Or if you click my “books i’ve read” page then it’ll give you links to every year’s page from 2012 to today of all the books I read. All of these are linked with drop down menus at the top of my blog too and the same as the below pages I am about to talk about.

books i own. – This will be where you can see how many books I own and also links you to pages where you can find my kindle books and my physical books that I own. I just updated them with all the books that I got last year. I need to try to stay on top with updating these pages. I sometimes fall behind on that.

My Goodreads reading challenge is to read 50 books. I am going to be doing things a little different with my Goodreads challenge this year. I am not going to be counting audiobooks toward this challenge, which is why I decided to cut my challenge goal in half and do only 50. I want to try to read 50 books on my own this year. I made a separate shelf on Goodreads to keep track of the audiobooks I read and I will still update my 2017 read books page with them and my monthly wrap ups, but just not count them toward my number count on Goodreads. How many books do you want to read this year?

Updating the TBR jar! *October wanted to help me out, lol 😛 * I had not updated my TBR jar since the end of 2015, so I spent about four hours sorting through all the folded papers to get out the books that I already read or the books that I got rid of. I had to write over 180 slips of new papers to add to the already 100+ that I had in there. It took so long, but I did it! I was up until after 1am doing my TBR jar.

I decided to update my TBR jar, because I am going to drop TBRs this year. I am going to read what I am in the mood for and I am going to pick books from the jar to read every month. I need to try to stay on top of updating my TBR jar regularly, so I don’t get so far behind on it again. I am excited to use it though. I currently have a poll happening on Twitter right now that involves my TBR jar.

Comment down below what color I should pick! Or head over to my Twitter page and vote. I am leaving it up for 5 more days. Hopefully I will be finished with my two current reads before the poll ends, so I can jump right into it! The color that gets the most votes will be the color of the book slip that I choose from my TBR jar to read next.

I believe I covered everything that I have done so far for my blog (and reading) this year. I think I may change up my header soon for the new year. I am super stoked to have my blog updated for 2017 and hopefully after all my wedding planning (and wedding), I can jump back into blogging regularly. It’s crunch time for me with this wedding stuff, so I may not be too active until April. I’ll be back on later to reply to comments and check out your new blog posts. Off to work for me!

2016 end of year survey.
Recap|| December.

I hope you have a great day! 😀

2016 End of Year Book Survey.

Hey! 😀

I am really excited to share my 2016 end of year book survey with you guys, which was created by Jamie over at The Perpetual Page Turner. All of the graphics were created by her as well and can be found over on her page linked above. You can also link your 2016 survey over there for others to see! Shall I get started?

*Links to the books on Goodreads and my reviews if I did one all over here on this page.*

Number Of Books You Read: 105 books read this year.
Number of Re-Reads: 6 re-reads.
Genre You Read The Most From: It was a pretty well mix of books.

Best Book You Read In 2016?
(If you have to cheat — you can break it down by genre if you want or 2016 release vs. backlist)
Picking just one book is way too hard! I am going to go with two books. Hands down the two below are two of my favorite reads in 2016.

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?

The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff

I wanted so badly to love both of these books, but sadly I did not. I enjoyed Yoon’s book, but it didn’t blow me away like it did for everyone else. I would still recommend checking it out. Illuminae was one of my number one disappointments this year. It was a struggle to get through this book. It was sooooo boring. I didn’t start actually getting into it until the last 100 pages and this book is like over 600 pages I believe.

Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?

With Malice by Eileen Cook
Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige

Most surprising in a….bad way! With Malice got so much hype and it’s my kind of book. I love these mystery/thriller type books, but it was not good. Not at all. Stealing Snow….so sad. I absolutely LOVE Paige’s Dorothy Must Die series and I was surprised when this one did not live up to what I hoped it would be.

Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?

Shattered Blue by Lauren Bird Horowtiz

I probably pushed Shattered Blue on a lot of people this year. I am so in love with this book and the second book is releasing in March, so I wanted the world to know about it!

Best series you started in 2016? Best Sequel of 2016? Best Series Ender of 2016?

Best Series: Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes
Best Sequel: Soldier by Julie Kagawa (third book)
Best Ender: Hearts, Fingers, and other Things to Cross by Katie Finn
Best Ender: Ruin & Rising by Leigh Bardugo

Hands down the Falling Kingdoms series is one of my new favorite series that I started this year. I am so in love and obsessed. Soldier is the 3rd book in the Talon series, but HOLY CRAP I love this series so much. I am dying to get my hands on the next book. I am so glad that I finished the Broken Hearts series and the Grisha Trilogy this year. Perfect endings!

Favorite new author you discovered in 2016?

Morgan Rhodes and Colleen Hoover

These two amazing authors! I’ve never read a book by Morgan Rhodes or Colleen Hoover until this year and I am obsessed and in love with both of their writing and books. SO GOOD!

Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?

Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hess

I haven’t read a whole lot of books in the historical fiction genre, but I was sent this ARC for review and I absolutely loved it. It’s set in 1943 Amsterdam when the Holocaust was happening.

Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?

Frozen Tides by Morgan Rhodes

So much was going happening in this book and I flew through it. Non-stop action and I don’t think I ever got off the edge of my seat and the ending…ahhhhhh!

Book You Read In 2016 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?
I honestly have no idea which book (if any) that I will re-read next year. I’ll keep you posted on that one next year, lol. I have so many books that I need to read that I haven’t read yet. hah.

Favorite cover of a book you read in 2016?

Gemini by Sonya Mukherjee
The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

I am totally digging the book cover for Gemini and I also really enjoyed this book so much. It’s about conjoined twins and they both want different things out of life and to be their own person. Even though I didn’t completely love The Sun Is Also a Star, the book cover is gorgeous.

Most memorable character of 2016?

Kelsier from Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson.

Kelsier was hilarious and witty. He was protective of his friends and the cause they were fighting for. It’s hard not to love him. Sanderson is so good with writing his characters and you get so connected with them.

Most beautifully written book read in 2016?

Wildflower by Drew Barrymore
It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover

I loved Wildflower so much. I really like Drew Barrymore and her book was so perfect. I listened to the audiobook and it was read by her, so it was even better getting to hear her story in her own words and voice. Although It Ends with Us was not my favorite CoHo book, it was still such a good read and it’s a very important book. It’s beautiful and heartbreaking.

Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2016?
I am going to go with a book that I think that everyone should read, especially if you have kids. And if you have older kids that can read and understand this book, make them read it too. It’s SO important.

Teacher Misery by Jane Morris

“Teacher Misery paints an amusing and thoroughly entertaining picture of what has become of our education system, without detracting from the overall point that what teachers have to put up with today is complete, utter, unacceptable insanity.” This pretty much sums up exactly what this book is about. It’s pure insanity. There is no other way to put it. I have always had lots of respect for teachers and feel that they are underpaid and not at all appreciated enough, but after reading Teacher Misery I have even more respect for them. It’s crazy what kids can get away with and what kids (and parents and administration) actually think are okay. – the rest of my review over here.

Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2016 to finally read?

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Loved it so much. The end, lol. Check out my review here and then go read it right now and keep a box of tissues next to you.

Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2016?
“If you’re going to live, you might as well do painful, brave, and beautiful things.”  – The Serpent King

“We all live day to day completely oblivious to the fact that we’re a part of a much larger and stranger reality than we can possibly imagine.”  – Dark Matter

“There is no such thing as bad people. We’re all just people who sometimes do bad things.”  – It Ends with Us.

Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2016?
(How I did this: Went to my read books on Goodreads and sorted by page number and just looked for what I knew I read this year that was the shortest and longest.)

Shortest: The Crown and the Arrow by Renee Ahdieh (9 pages)
Longest: Seveneves by Neal Stephenson (880 pages)

Book That Shocked You The Most
(Because of a plot twist, character death, left you hanging with your mouth wide open, etc.)

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

This book had so much going on and it was so exciting. It was so hard to put down and everything about it was so interesting. I was actually pretty shocked with all the emotions I felt while reading it. I didn’t expect it, to be honest. I honestly didn’t think I would cry as much as I did, lol. Sanderson’s writing is so good and it’s so hard not to feel ALL THE FEELINGS, hah. The ending though…cried for days.

OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!)
(OTP = one true pairing if you aren’t familiar)

Magnus and Cleo from the Falling Kingdoms series.

I live for for Magnus and Cleo. I can’t wait to dive into Crystal Storm in January, because I need more Magneo!

Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year

Lily and Ted from Lily and the Octopus

Lily and Ted, OMG. Why do I keep reading books about dogs that make me cry my eyes out? It’s so sad, but the relationship between a man and his pup is strong (especially Lily and Ted). Always. Love these two so much.

Favorite Book You Read in 2016 From An Author You’ve Read Previously

Shattered Blue by Lauren Bird Horowitz.

I reread Shattered Blue twice this year and loved it both times I reread it. I listened to the audiobook though. I read it myself last year, but I was stoked to give the audiobook a try. And now I need to go read Renegade Red!

Best Book You Read In 2016 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure:

Seveneves by Neal Stephenson

Lauren said that I should read this book, because it was amazing and some crazy stuff happens in it. She wasn’t liking. It was so freaking good and yes, crazy stuff happened. I highly recommend picking this one up.

Newest fictional crush from a book you read in 2016?

Magnus from the Falling Kingdoms series

I’m picking this series for everything, I know I know…but you just have no idea how good it is. I will forever love Magnus Damora.

Best 2016 debut you read?

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner

The Serpent King again….yes. It was so good and deserves to be on here a million times. You should go read it now. 😛

Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting You Read This Year?

I am just going to leave this right here…

Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?

Everland by Wendy Spinale

Everland is a steampunk retelling of Peter Pan and it’s such a fun read. I loved every minute of it. I love Peter Pan and I loved this retelling. I don’t think I ever read any other Peter Pan retellings, but this one is fun, exciting, and at times could be pretty intense. Pete is hilarious and I laughed so much.

Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2016?

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover and pretty much every single CoHo book I read this year. I cry easily though and I probably cried throughout half the books that I read this year LOL.

Hidden Gem Of The Year?

My Kind of Crazy by Robin Reul
The Ugly Teapot: Hannah by Fred Holmes

Why are more people not talking about these two books? They were so freaking good. My Kind of Crazy was such a fun book, but it was also so sad. One of my favorites. Holmes sent me a copy of his book to review and I am so glad that he did. It was so good and totally unpredictable. A few twists and so much adventure.

Book That Crushed Your Soul?

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.

A Monster Calls did some serious damage on my soul. I honestly don’t think I ever stopped crying while reading this book. DAMN YOU, NESS! I love you to pieces though. This book was beautiful and amazing and everything. The illustrations made it even better.

Most Unique Book You Read In 2016?

Just a Few Inches by Tara St. Pierre

I never read a book like this. This is about a girl that took some diet pills to fit into a dress wanted for a dance, but she kept shrinking and shrinking. It was so strange, but so good. It was hard to put down, because I wanted to see just how small she would get.

Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)

The Ask and the Answer and Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness

I LOVED The Knife of Never Letting Go so much, SO SO SO MUCH! The Ask and the Answer was pretty lame, to be honest. I was so disappointed that it wasn’t no where near as good as The Knife was. Monsters of Men, I gave it 4 stars, but I struggled so much with rating it. So many times I didn’t know if I loved it or just really disliked it. It also really made me mad, because certain characters in the book annoyed me so much…VIOLA! I’ll always dislike her…and some other characters, blehh. I still love Ness so much; because even though it wasn’t amazing all the way through, it took an emotional toll on me. It gave me so many mixed feelings and pulled me in so many directions. The way I talk about this series, I feel like I should have loved it more than anything. It was still enjoyable though, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t love it like I want to and it honestly makes me angry that I don’t. #$@&%*!!

New favorite book blog you discovered in 2016?
I didn’t follow too many new blogs this year, but I did discover Lillian from LairOfBooks this year and she’s such a sweet person and has awesome posts on her blog!

Favorite review that you wrote in 2016?
It’s so hard to pick just one favorite review I wrote this year, so here are four. I will say though, this was the year that I lacked in writing reviews. Next year I hope to write more than I did this year.
Every Exquisite Thing
A Monster Calls
Dark Matter
Teacher Misery

Best discussion/non-review post you had on your blog?
I don’t really do any discussion posts on my blog (I hope to start in 2017!), so I will go with one of my Top Ten Tuesday posts. This one was for some of my anticipated 2016 releases for the second part of 2016. It had a lot of views and comments.

Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)?
I actually went to an author event/signing this year! All the way in California. I flew across the country to meet Lauren Bird Horowitz (author of Shattered Blue) for her book signing. It was so exciting and so cool to meet her. I also met author Kristen Hunt (author of Blonde Eskimo) and I got to meet Maren from The Worn Bookmark! We all got to hangout for the weekend. I stayed an entire week and got to help out at all of Lauren’s signings.

Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2016?
It was my one year blogiversary in January and I reached over 700 followers on my blog this year, which was really exciting. I think it was even more exciting because I wasn’t as active as I was last year (my first year) with blogging. So I was stoked that you guys still stuck around and still wanted to read my blog!

Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year?
I would have to say the most challenging this year was actually sticking to blogging and reading. I was in so many reading slumps this year and it made it so hard to actually blog. I wasn’t reading, so I didn’t always have much to blog about. It was also a really busy year for me, so trying to juggle reading, blogging, and life all at one time was so hard.

Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)?
The most popular post on my blog this year was my Top 5 Wednesday|| Fandoms post. It was about my top five fandoms that I love. It had the most views.

Post You Wished Got A Little More Love?
I don’t really have a post for this one.

Best bookish discover (book related sites, book stores, etc.)?
I started my bookstagram this year, so I guess that’s one of the best bookish discoveries. I used Instagram for years for my every day life, but I recently made an account just for books and it’s been awesome.

Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year?
I attempted a few reading challenge and had quite a few goals as well. I unfortunately didn’t accomplish/complete the majority of them. I did complete my Goodreads challenge, which was to read 100 books.

One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2016 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2017?
All of my books….lol. I have so many unread books that I didn’t get to in 2015 and once again didn’t get to them in 2016. I definitely plan to read The Darkest Minds and Crystal Storm right away. They are going straight to my January TBR.

Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2017 (non-debut)?

I can’t choose just one, so here’s three. 😛

Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth
Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner
Bang by Barry Lyga

I am super stoked about all of these new books from these guys!I love the Divergent series so much and I am super stoked to see what else Roth has up her sleeve. You all know just by reading this post how much I love Zentner’s first book (The Serpent King) and can’t wait to read his new book. A new Lyga book, I don’t even have to say more. I live for the Jasper Dent series and want to read and own all of his books.

2017 Debut You Are Most Anticipating?

Caraval by Stephanie Garber
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Super stoked about these two books. I’ve been hearing a ton of awesome things about them both and can’t wait to read them myself.

Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2017?

Renegade Red by Lauren Bird Horowitz
Umberland by Wendy Spinale

I can’t wait to see what happens next in the Light Trilogy after that crazy ending, so I am dying to get my hands on Renegade Red. Umberland is the second book in the Everland series and it’s I believe an Alice in Wonderland retelling. SO STOKED!

One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging Life In 2017?
I am hoping that I find the time to read more and blog more. Last year time was not on my side. I had a million other things that took away a lot of my time and I couldn’t do as much as I had hoped on my blog.

A 2017 Release You’ve Already Read & Recommend To Everyone:

Love and First Sight by Josh Sundquist

I really enjoyed Love and First Sight and I would definitely recommend checking it out. It’ll be released January 3rd, so really soon!

That’s all for my  2016 end of the year survey. If you made it all the way to the end, then high five to you! You are awesome. It took me a couple weeks to actually get this post completed, so I am glad to finally have it done and posted for you guys. 2016 was one crazy year. Good and bad. I can’t wait to see what 2017 holds for me with blogging, reading, and all other aspects of my life! Thanks for sticking with me another year and feel free to link me to your survery posts! 😀
