Recap|| December.

decemberrecap

Hello! 🙂

December was a crazy busy month, but I was still able to read a ton. I am actually a bit surprised by that, but happy too. I’m just going to jump straight into my December recap of all the books that I read and listened to. You can find a full list of these books and the other books I read this year over here. All will be linked to Goodreads below and I will also link to individual blog posts for them if I did a review. *sadly I majorly slacked on reviews this month as well*

DNF Books:
These are the books that I did not finish throughout the month of December.

carryon

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

I’ve been wanting to read this book since it was released. I loved Fangirl and I was excited about this book. I never got around to reading it and finally I attempted to read it this month. I read about 25 chapters and stopped. I was so bored and I wasn’t connecting with any of the characters. I highly doubt that I will be making anymore attempts at reading this book. I think I might just go read a summary or something just to see how it ends. Kind of a disappointment, because I love her other books.

Physically Read Books:
These are the books that I read by myself (not audiobooks) throughout the month of December.

let it snow by john green, maureen johnson, lauren myracle – REVIEW. – 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Love/hate for this book, lol. First story; amazing. Second story; okay/good. Third story; blehh. Quick read though and perfect for the holiday season. Feel free to check out my review for me.

love and first sight by josh sundquist – REVIEW. – 4 out of 5 stars.
I was sent an ARC of this book from The Novl. I really enjoyed this book so much. I twas different and so interesting. I really liked the characters too. There were some things that annoyed me, especially toward the ending of the book. I would still recommend it. Feel free to check out my review for more.

the twelve days of dash & lily by rachel cohn, david levithan – 4 out of 5 stars.
Cute book. Loved this book. Very festive for Christmas. It made me want to go to New York during Christmas time more than ever. It’s one of my bucket list things. I want to see NYC at Christmas time. I want to be touristy. One thing that annoyed me was Lily. I didn’t really like her as much in this second book as I did in the first book. I actually loved the first book more than this one. Still a good read! Still love Dash more than anything.

sh*t my dad says by justin halpern – 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Loved this book. It was so hilarious and even with all the things Justin’s dad said to him (and the way he worded things (OMG HAHA)), you could tell he really loved Justin. “Don’t get me wrong, you’ve got a big fucking mouth, and you ain’t the prettiest to look at, but I love you, and I want people to know that when it comes down to it, I’d do things for my family that I wouldn’t do for nobody else.”

monsters of men by patrick ness – 4 out of 5 stars.
I finally finished the Chaos Walking trilogy. I had a hard time with this one though. A lot of the time I wasn’t sure if I really loved it or if I didn’t like it. Viola still pissed me off so much and I still kind of wished death on her, yikes…sorry! I had a lot of trust issues with this book LOL. It had it’s freaking sad moments too where I cried my eyes out. It was definitely better than The Ask and the Answer. That one was just plain lame and boring. I’m glad it was a step up, but it was nowhere near as good as The Knife of Never Letting Go. I am still not sure I am happy with the way this book ended though.

hidden by helen frost – 3 out of 5 stars.
I wanted to read something short to end the year with since I had a week or so left of the year and didn’t want to invest a lot of time into a big book. It was easy to read and it was only about 140 pages. It was told in poems, which was interesting. The story itself was good, but it didn’t completely blow me away. No major issues with this one though. I would recommend it, especially if you’re looking for something short and good.

Audiobooks:
These are the books that I listened to the audio versions throughout the month of December.

thefevercodesideeffectsmayvarydashandlilysbookofdaresshatteredblue

the fever code by james dashner – 4 out of 5 stars.
I really enjoyed The Fever Code so much. It was cool getting to see what all happened before the maze and building the maze. No secret that I LOVE The Maze Runner series so much; even though the ending of the series completely sucked. But I won’t get into that. lol

side effects may vary by julie murphy – 3.5 out of 5 stars.
This book was an okay read. I did have some issues with it and characters though. It wasn’t amazing, but it was still good. Dumplin’ is definitely my favorite JM book though.

dash and lily’s book of dares by rachel cohn, david levithan – REVIEW. – 5 out of 5 stars.
Audiobook reread. I wanted to listen to the audiobook before reading the second book in the series since I read it the beginning of last year. Still so good! lol. Feel free to check out my review for more.

shattered blue by lauren bird horowitz – REVIEW. – 5 out of 5 stars.
Audiobook reread (second time this year, lol). I love this book and I am getting an ARC soon of the second book (Renegade Red), so I wanted to listen to it again to have it fresh in my memory! Still just as amazing as the first two times I read it. Feel free to check out my review for more.

What did you read this month? Have you read any of the books that I read? Feel free to link me to your wrap up posts!

Crazy month. Crazy year. Even though I didn’t accomplish all that I wanted this month (and year – check out my blog post linked below), there were lots of good things that happened too. Maybe not in the blogging/bookish aspect of my life, but in other aspects. I got to meet some cool blogger friends and authors. I got to go to California for the first time and Harry Potter World! I was able to meet up with my childhood best friend who I hadn’t seen since like 2003-2004. I got engaged to the coolest dude I know; he has put up with me for over nine years and I love him to death 😛 ! Super stoked to see what 2017 holds for me and you guys! 🙂

I’ll have my book haul posted soon. I still need to take pictures of my books and then I will hopefully be posting the 2016 end of the year survey soon. I have most of it done, but still need to fill in a few more questions.

  1. You’re starting to convince me to try Shattered Blue! 😉 Sounds like you had quite a bookish December; good for you and best wishes for the New Year!

    • It sucks that I just could not like her. I still enjoyed the series, but not as much as I hoped I would. Shattered Blue is so good! One of my favorites. Thank you! Happy New Year!
