Day 7: Worst book of 2016.
I had quite a few two star reads this year, which is never fun. I want to love all of the books that I read! Quite a few of the ones that I really thought were the worst are books that I don’t own copies of. I am going to post book covers for two and then also share some others that I thought weren’t particularly that great that I do own.
The Last Star by Rick Yancey
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff
The Last Star, WTF. Seriously? I actually loved the first two books in the 5th Wave series and I have no clue what the heck happened here. Completely unsatisfying and a disappointment. HELLLOOOOOO unpopular opinion! Illuminae, I tried so hard to love you. SO SO hard. I was beyond bored pretty much the entire book until the last 100 or so pages.
The Heir by Kiera Cass
Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige
It’s a little bittersweet with both of these books. I actually really enjoyed the Selection series a lot (minus America, couldn’t stand her) and The Heir was just crap compared to the first three books. With Stealing Snow, I LOVE Paige’s Dorothy Must Die series, but something just wasn’t working out right with this book. For the life of me, I couldn’t connect with the characters or the story.

My worst book this year was Fates & Furies by Lauren Groff. I know a lot of people rave about it, but it’s so full of over flowery bs prose & a convoluted story about rich white people living like not rich white people just cause? And the lies they tell each other throughout their marriage & the whole thing just rubbed me all the wrong way & just hated the writing. Just hated everything. The characters….I hated them too. Just……I kinda wish I had never wasted time on it XD I honestly wish I could’ve loved it cause it’s so raved about but I…..don’t get what anyone likes about that book, tbh
There was also I’m Thinking Of Ending Things by Iain Ried. Which I can’t explain why without ruining the story but the ending pissed me off so so much that I wish I had been reading the physical copy so I could throw it through a window XD
I’m not that violent I swear, but SOMETIMES you just wanna throw things lol
Fates & Furies sounds awful! I think I will definitely be staying away from that book! I might have to check out Thinking of Ending Things just so I can see what you’re talking about, haha.
A lot of people really really loved it so maybe there’s something I completely missed lol
You might enjoy Ending Things more than I did. I’m really critical of certain types of thriller stories & this one was a victim of that. I’m sure I’d have enjoyed it much more if it wasn’t for that XD
I agree with the Last Star I did not like it at all. The last two books in The Selection series were quite disappointing in comparison to the rest of the series. I haven’t got round to Stealing Snow yet but I really hope that I enjoy it.
It totally sucks that the Last Star was so bad, because I actually enjoyed the series at first. I hated that it had such a crappy ending. Agreed, the last two books in the Selection series were pretty crappy compared to the other books. I think it should have just ended after the first three books. I hope you like Stealing Snow more than I did!

I haven’t read the last star but honestly I’m not surprised that it wasn’t that good, considering the fact that the sequel wasn’t that good in comparison to the first novel. It’s actually quite sad
