My Sister Rosa by Justine Larbalestier

Crystal Storm is here! I love this series so much and I can’t wait to read it. I plan to add it to my January TBR. Vassa in the Night sounds so good and I seen a lot of good things about it. I read Too Late when it was up on Wattpad for free and I loved it so much. I was so stoked to hear that Colleen Hoover was releasing it in physical form and that you could preorder a signed copy. I am super stoked to have a signed copy now! It came with a bookmark and a Boston magnet (from It Ends With Us). My older sister got me the Hating Game for Christmas. I also got My Sister Rosa (not pictured – cover image above) for Christmas as well.

Black Friday Book Outlet Sale:

I made no Book Outlet orders this month; that’s a shocker! I usually make at least one. I do have books to share though, because while I did buy these in November, they didn’t get delivered until December.

The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi
After You by Jojo Moyes
Trouble is a Friend of Mine by Stephanie Tromly
My True Love Gave to Me edited by Stephanie Perkins

img_3205

The Museum of Heartbreak by Meg Leder
Cure for the Common Universe by Christian McKay Heidicker
The Truth Commission by Susan Juby

I have been dying to get my hands on The Star-Touched Queen and I finally got it! I read Trouble is a Friend of Mine as an ARC (loved it) and I’ve been meaning to get a copy before the second book came out. Now I can go off and buy the second book. I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t pay attention when I bought After You. I assumed it was paperback, but of course it was not. The copy of Me Before You is paperback, so them not matching is kind of annoying. The others are books I wanted to read and decided to get them since they were on sale.

E-Books:

OMG the e-book sales this month! There were so many e-book sales and I may have went a little overboard. It could have been worse though, like WAAAAY worse. I actually held myself back from buying a lot of e-books that were on sale.

obsidianbladeandthetreescreptinbirdboxforgettinglearningtoswearinamericarebelofthesands

Obsidian Blade by Morgan Rhodes
And the Trees Crept In by Dawn Kurtagich
Bird Box by Josh Malerman
The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron
Learning to Swear in America by Katie Kennedy
Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton

shitmydadsayssummertheproblemwithforeverbestfriendsexorcismalltheuglyandwonderfulthingsbadmommy

Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern
The Summer That Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel
The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix
All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood
Bad Mommy by Tarryn Fisher

I have been wanting to get my hands on all of these and I am so stoked that they were all on sale this month; especially The Summer That Melted Everything and All the Ugly and Wonderful Things. Those are both SO expensive in hardcover and the Kindle editions are usually quite pricey too ($12.99). I refuse to pay over $9.99 for a e-book and even that is sometimes too much.. So stoked to get them both on sale for $2.99.

Christmas Things:

These are some other things I got for Christmas. I pretty much had a very Funko Christmas, haha. 😛 I got quite a few Funkos for Christmas this year along with some other random things and a couple books (listed above).

img_3204

Prisma Color Pencils (super stoked about these)
Splat Coloring Book (been dying for this coloring book)

Onto the Funkos!

image1

Rose Tyler || Tenth Doctor w/ Hand || Cyberman
Mrs. Potts & Chip || The Beast || Belle

Some other things that I got that aren’t pictured are new nail polishes and other nail things (I LOVE nail polish), a cat purse, a Beatles purse, a shirt that says “Paws”, which is like the Jaws movie poster, but with a cat trying to catch a mouse instead of a shark trying to catch a girl. I love sharks, I love Jaws, and I love cats; it’s perfect. I got a blue tapestry, which I am going to hang on my wall behind my bed and I got some other little random things.

What books did you get this month? Did you get any cool Christmas gifts?

Recap|| December.

decemberrecap

Hello! 🙂

December was a crazy busy month, but I was still able to read a ton. I am actually a bit surprised by that, but happy too. I’m just going to jump straight into my December recap of all the books that I read and listened to. You can find a full list of these books and the other books I read this year over here. All will be linked to Goodreads below and I will also link to individual blog posts for them if I did a review. *sadly I majorly slacked on reviews this month as well*

DNF Books:
These are the books that I did not finish throughout the month of December.

carryon

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

I’ve been wanting to read this book since it was released. I loved Fangirl and I was excited about this book. I never got around to reading it and finally I attempted to read it this month. I read about 25 chapters and stopped. I was so bored and I wasn’t connecting with any of the characters. I highly doubt that I will be making anymore attempts at reading this book. I think I might just go read a summary or something just to see how it ends. Kind of a disappointment, because I love her other books.

Physically Read Books:
These are the books that I read by myself (not audiobooks) throughout the month of December.

letitsnowloveandfirstsighttwelvedaysofdashandlilyshitmydadsaysmonstersofmenhidden

let it snow by john green, maureen johnson, lauren myracle – REVIEW. – 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Love/hate for this book, lol. First story; amazing. Second story; okay/good. Third story; blehh. Quick read though and perfect for the holiday season. Feel free to check out my review for me.

love and first sight by josh sundquist – REVIEW. – 4 out of 5 stars.
I was sent an ARC of this book from The Novl. I really enjoyed this book so much. I twas different and so interesting. I really liked the characters too. There were some things that annoyed me, especially toward the ending of the book. I would still recommend it. Feel free to check out my review for more.

the twelve days of dash & lily by rachel cohn, david levithan – 4 out of 5 stars.
Cute book. Loved this book. Very festive for Christmas. It made me want to go to New York during Christmas time more than ever. It’s one of my bucket list things. I want to see NYC at Christmas time. I want to be touristy. One thing that annoyed me was Lily. I didn’t really like her as much in this second book as I did in the first book. I actually loved the first book more than this one. Still a good read! Still love Dash more than anything.

sh*t my dad says by justin halpern – 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Loved this book. It was so hilarious and even with all the things Justin’s dad said to him (and the way he worded things (OMG HAHA)), you could tell he really loved Justin. “Don’t get me wrong, you’ve got a big fucking mouth, and you ain’t the prettiest to look at, but I love you, and I want people to know that when it comes down to it, I’d do things for my family that I wouldn’t do for nobody else.”

monsters of men by patrick ness – 4 out of 5 stars.
I finally finished the Chaos Walking trilogy. I had a hard time with this one though. A lot of the time I wasn’t sure if I really loved it or if I didn’t like it. Viola still pissed me off so much and I still kind of wished death on her, yikes…sorry! I had a lot of trust issues with this book LOL. It had it’s freaking sad moments too where I cried my eyes out. It was definitely better than The Ask and the Answer. That one was just plain lame and boring. I’m glad it was a step up, but it was nowhere near as good as The Knife of Never Letting Go. I am still not sure I am happy with the way this book ended though.

hidden by helen frost – 3 out of 5 stars.
I wanted to read something short to end the year with since I had a week or so left of the year and didn’t want to invest a lot of time into a big book. It was easy to read and it was only about 140 pages. It was told in poems, which was interesting. The story itself was good, but it didn’t completely blow me away. No major issues with this one though. I would recommend it, especially if you’re looking for something short and good.

Audiobooks:
These are the books that I listened to the audio versions throughout the month of December.

thefevercodesideeffectsmayvarydashandlilysbookofdaresshatteredblue

the fever code by james dashner – 4 out of 5 stars.
I really enjoyed The Fever Code so much. It was cool getting to see what all happened before the maze and building the maze. No secret that I LOVE The Maze Runner series so much; even though the ending of the series completely sucked. But I won’t get into that. lol

side effects may vary by julie murphy – 3.5 out of 5 stars.
This book was an okay read. I did have some issues with it and characters though. It wasn’t amazing, but it was still good. Dumplin’ is definitely my favorite JM book though.

dash and lily’s book of dares by rachel cohn, david levithan – REVIEW. – 5 out of 5 stars.
Audiobook reread. I wanted to listen to the audiobook before reading the second book in the series since I read it the beginning of last year. Still so good! lol. Feel free to check out my review for more.

shattered blue by lauren bird horowitz – REVIEW. – 5 out of 5 stars.
Audiobook reread (second time this year, lol). I love this book and I am getting an ARC soon of the second book (Renegade Red), so I wanted to listen to it again to have it fresh in my memory! Still just as amazing as the first two times I read it. Feel free to check out my review for more.

What did you read this month? Have you read any of the books that I read? Feel free to link me to your wrap up posts!

Crazy month. Crazy year. Even though I didn’t accomplish all that I wanted this month (and year – check out my blog post linked below), there were lots of good things that happened too. Maybe not in the blogging/bookish aspect of my life, but in other aspects. I got to meet some cool blogger friends and authors. I got to go to California for the first time and Harry Potter World! I was able to meet up with my childhood best friend who I hadn’t seen since like 2003-2004. I got engaged to the coolest dude I know; he has put up with me for over nine years and I love him to death 😛 ! Super stoked to see what 2017 holds for me and you guys! 🙂

I’ll have my book haul posted soon. I still need to take pictures of my books and then I will hopefully be posting the 2016 end of the year survey soon. I have most of it done, but still need to fill in a few more questions.

2016 Goals|| Win or Fail?

image1

Hello!

I can’t believe 2016 is almost over! I am actually kind of thrilled about that though, because it wasn’t the greatest year. I’ve been seeing that around a lot though for others, so I am not alone in feeling like this. I wanted to do a post about the goals I made at the start of this year and whether I accomplished them or not. So here we go!

My resolutions/goals for 2016 were as follows (you can see the actual post over here):

  • Get organized in both my personal life and the blogosphere.
    • I feel like I failed this one, because I honestly don’t think I organized anything. I still feel exactly where I was at the start of 2016 and possibly even worse. Fail.
  • Drop the TBRs and read whatever I am in the mood for.
    • I kind of sort of dropped the TBRs? I still made them some months, but I think for the most part I did read what I was in the mood for. I just struggled a lot this year with reading since most of this year felt like an endless reading slump. Kind of win.
  • Buy less books, because I am drowning in books and not enough bookshelf space!
    • I definitely feel like I bought A LOT less books than I did last year, but I still ended up buying quite a few. It was no where near as bad as last year though and that’s something to be proud of! I’ll take this one as a win.
  • Save more and spend less.
    • I definitely did not do much saving and I did spend quite a bit of money. I will say, a lot of money went toward wedding stuff though. I’m going to say I failed this one though, because I really should have saved more and I did spend money that I shouldn’t have quite a few times this year.
  • Finish older books that are collecting dust on my bookshelves.
    • I tried so hard to finish older books, but I didn’t finish as many as I hoped to. I couldn’t even reach of my goal of reading 30 older books. Blehhh. FAIL!
  • Add more variety on my blog.
    • Big fail! Not only did I not add more variety to my blog, I hardly blogged at all in 2016. I had so much going on in my personal life and blogging definitely took the back burner most of the year.
  • Finish my unfinished series.
    • Nope, fail. I finished a few, but not enough. I still have an almost endless pile of unfinished series. I find myself picking up more standalones because of this.
  • Declutter my entire apartment and probably my entire life, really.
    • Fail again, ughhh. I am the worst LOL. I had so much going on that this took the other back burner, sigh. After my wedding, I am going to attempt this again.
  • Physically read more books rather than listen to tons of audiobooks.
    • This one I don’t think it was a fail or win. It’s a draw, lol. I did read a few more than I listened to though. It was almost 50/50. Physically read won by a few though. So I won’t call it a win or fail.
  • Be healthier and that means eating better (pizza all the time is not cutting it, although I wish it were) and exercising!
    • I signed up for the gym. I went to the gym some of the time. I didn’t stick to it as often as I should have. I probably wasted a lot of money paying for a gym membership that I didn’t use, sigh. I’ve tried to eat healthier and I did good sometimes, but damn that pizza! It’s my weakness. So once again, fail.

Other Random Bookish Goals:

  • Read My Books Challenge.
    • This one was a fail. I was only able to read 19 out of 30 books. Eleven short from my goal, ugh.
  • Goodreads Challenge Goal.
    • A WIN! I completed my goal of 100 books read this year. To be honest, I almost didn’t complete it. I was able to listen to a ton of audibooks in November, which helped me to complete my goal. I read a total of 105 books this year.
  • #2016WrapUp Challenge.
    • Fail of all fails. I was so stoked to do this challenge and take pictures everyday and blog everyday. I have no idea what happened, to be honset. I slacked off. I got behind. And then I got so behind that I was like “whatever” and never picked it up again.

Overall, my 2016 goals were mostly fails. *crying* I was pretty busy in 2016, I had so much going on. I took a couple of trips, I got engaged, I attempted to plan a wedding (which I need to crack down on in the next couple of months), and I had so many lame reading slumps. I also got lazy, so lazy! 😦 I am crossing my fingers that 2017 is a better year. I know the first 3-4 months will be a little crazy, because I have a wedding to finish planning, I get married, I go on our honeymoon, and then I play catch up with all the things I let slide in 2016.

What were some of your 2016 goals? Did you accomplish them? Did you fail at them?

Anyway, enough of my huge fail of 2016 lol. I will be back with a new list of goals for 2017 soon. To be honest, probably the same exact goals as this one, because who am I kidding? I failed big time and I want every single one of these things to happen at some point. Why not try again in 2017? I’ll have my December book haul, December wrap up, and 2016 end of year survey posted soon, so be on the look out for those posts as well.

I hope you have a great day!

Merry Early Christmas!

Hey! 😀

Just stopping by to say Merry Christmas and share some pictures! I will probably be pretty busy doing things with the family and I don’t want to forget about wishing you guys Happy Holidays! It’s been one crazy year for me and I am so glad to have made some amazing friends yet again in the book community. You guys are awesome and made my crazy year better. 😀 Here are a few Christmasy pictures!

I made a bookish snowman! It was my first attempt at one and I think I did a pretty awesome job with it. I actually still have it set up, because it’s so cute and I refuse to take it down yet! Haha.

img_2811

Gingerbread house making contest between my younger sister, the fiance and I! The photo collage picture (top left (mine), middle (sister), last (fiance)). His fell apart before we got to the group picture LOL! I clearly won even after mine fell apart a few times until I finally got it to stay together.

Here are some Christmasy pictures of my furbabies! ColbyJack taking claim to some presents. October sleeping by the Christmas tree. She’s destroyed part of the tree (you can see branches broke in the background) and she stomped on the presents, but sometimes she’s not the grinch that wants to ruin Christmas and I caught her sleeping peacefully by the tree. By the way, it’s her first Christmas!

And Santa Dax! 😀 He’s usually down for hat pictures, but this time he was like “not again with the Santa hat”. And here is a Christmas cookie, because COOKIES and CHRISTMAS! 😛

How are you spending the holidays? Any gifts you hope to receive?

I can’t wait for everyone to unwrap the presents that I got them. I’ve been trying really hard not to give everyone their presents early. I’ve mostly been good about it, although I did give out a few gifts early. Hah.

Goodreads Description: For Noa and Callum, being together is dangerous, even deadly. From the start, sixteen-year-old Noa senses that the mysterious transfer student to her Monterey boarding school is different. Callum unnerves and intrigues her, and even as she struggles through family tragedy, she’s irresistibly drawn to him. Soon they are bound by his deepest secret: Callum is Fae, banished from another world after a loss hauntingly similar to her own. But in Noa’s world, Callum needs a special human energy, Light, to survive; his body steals it through touch—or a kiss. And Callum’s not the only Fae on the hunt. HEY!

I haven’t updated since last Tuesday, oops! It’s almost Christmas, so I’ve been a little busy with Christmas stuff. Not going to lie, also watching a million Christmas movies. I am a sucker for Christmas movies and I have a list of favorites I watch every single year! I have quite a few posts lined up for next week though, so be on the look out for those.

As for this post…I am back to share a couple of the subscription boxes/envelopes I got this month. I’m actively subscribed to the Craftedvan Read Happy Plan and from time to time when I see a box theme that I think I’ll love from other subscription services, then I will purchase it. Here are the subscriptions I got this month.

Craftedvan Read Happy Plan:

Craftedvan makes and sells magnetic bookmarks on Etsy and they came up with a new subscription service called the Read Happy Plan and every month you get a set of bookmarks and an art print.

img_2447

The print is hard to see, because of the white background and lighting, but it’s of a polar bear ice fishing for books. The bookmarks are: hot chocolate, pie, penguin, and a polar bear with a polar bear cub. I love the pie and hot chocolate bookmarks the most. Two of my favorite things. The print is really cute too.

Nerdy Post:

Nerdy Post is a fandom based subscription service that sends out hand lettering art and other goodies (bookmarks, pins, magnets, stickers, notepads, posters, etc.) with quotes from the monthly themed fandom.

Instagram: @nerdy.post

THEME: Fantastic Beasts

img_2871

I sadly have not seen the movie yet, but I know I’ll love it and I didn’t want to miss out on this box. Here is a picture of everything together, but some things are double sided, so there will be close up pictures down below as well.

img_2916

We were able to get the bookmark of our Ilvermorny house, so I chose Wampus since that is what I was sorted into on Pottermore. The back of the Wampus bookmark says “warriors body”.

There were four different stickers that you could get with this box this month. I received the Niffler sticker. There was a button that says “magizoologist” as well. I love stickers and buttons.

There was a notebook that looks like Newt’s case when his case is closed. The inside of the notebook shows the inside of Newt’s notebook when his notebook is opened.

There were two small prints and one was double sided. Here is a picture of all the prints/sides. Also the Nerdy Post postcard that you can color yourself. Every month there is a postcard that you can color that goes along with the theme.

Down below is a close up of the main print poster and I am seriously so in love with it! It’s perfect. I love the designs and the colors. I need to get a frame for it, so I can hang it on my wall! I actually need to find some frames for all my past NP boxes prints.

img_2904

Overall, I am really happy with this box! I am so glad that I did not miss out on this and now I have to see the movie ASAP! I read the book that talks about all the different beasts (and where to find them 😛 ), but can’t wait to also get my hands on the screenplay version of the book/movie.

Next Month’s Theme is Star Wars, if you interested! I’m not a Star Wars fan, but the Fiancé is so I will be getting it for him.

Do you get any monthly subscriptions? I am always looking for new ones to try out.

Top Ten Books I’m Looking Forward To For The First Half Of 2017.

Hey! 🙂

I can’t wait for 2017, because there are so many books coming out that I am dying to get my hands on. It’s so hard to narrow it down to just ten books, but I did and here they are! All linked to their Goodreads page.

carvethemarkcaravalthehateugivegoodbyedaystheupside

Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth (Jan 17)
Caraval by Stephanie Garber (Jan 31)
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (Feb 28)
Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner (Mar 7)
The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli (Apr 11)

New Veronica Roth, DUH!  I loved the Divergent series so much and I can’t wait to see what Roth has up her sleeves next. Carve the Mark also sounds really good. Caraval sounds so amazing and I have been dying to get my hands on it. I think The Hate U Give is going to be a very important book and I am dying to read it. I LOOOOOVED The Serpent King more than life and I need Goodbye Days, ASAP! I also really loved Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and I can’t wait to check out Becky’s new book, The Upside of Unrequited.

bangelizaandhermonstersrenegaderedtheendofozumberland

Bang by Barry Lyga (Apr 18)
Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia (May 30)
Renegade Red by Lauren Bird Horowitz (Mar 14)
The End of Oz by Danielle Paige (Mar 14)
Umberland by Wendy Spinale (May 9)

New Barry Lyga, DUH! I am obsessed with his Jasper Dent (I Hunt Killers) series and I need to read ALL OF HIS BOOKS! I own them all, but haven’t gotten around to reading the other books he wrote…yet! But I know I will be snatching Bang up ASAP! I loved Zappia’s book Made You Up and I am so stoked to read her new book Eliza and Her MonstersRenegade Red, ahhhhh! I can’t wait to read this one. You all know how much I LOVE Shattered Blue and with the crazy cliffhanger at the end, I am dying to read RR! Renegade Red also comes in three different book covers!! It’s gonna be so fun collecting them all. Another Dorothy Must Die book, yes please! I love Danielle’s DMD series and I can’t wait to get my hands on The End of Oz. And Umberland….first, the book cover is AMAZING! Second, Everland (the first book) was a steampunk retelling of Peter Pan and it was awesome. I am pretty sure Umberland is a Alice in Wonderland retelling and I am freaking stoked!

Are you looking forward to any of these books on my list? What books releases are you looking forward to in the first half of 2017? Feel free to link me to your posts!

Love and First Sight by Josh Sundquist
4 out of 5 stars.

Goodreads Description: On his first day at a new school, blind sixteen-year-old Will Porter accidentally groped a girl on the stairs, sat on another student in the cafeteria, and somehow drove a classmate to tears. High school can only go up from here, right? As Will starts to find his footing, he develops a crush on a charming, quiet girl named Cecily. Then an unprecedented opportunity arises: an experimental surgery that could give Will eyesight for the first time in his life. But learning to see is more difficult than Will ever imagined, and he soon discovers that the sighted world has been keeping secrets. It turns out Cecily doesn’t meet traditional definitions of beauty–in fact, everything he’d heard about her appearance was a lie engineered by their so-called friends to get the two of them together. Does it matter what Cecily looks like? No, not really. But then why does Will feel so betrayed?

I won an ARC of Love and First Sight from The Novl from their monthly newsletter! If you go to their website and sign up for the newsletter, then you can have a chance to win books and ARCs like this! 🙂

I am really glad that I was given the opportunity to read this book, because I ended up really enjoying it. Will is blind, which I can’t even imagine what a struggle that is. He seemed like he had a good system though and how to navigate through life with his disability.  I instantly liked Will and thought he was so hilarious.

Will made some really awesome new friends at his new school, which I loved. It was a great mix of characters and their friendship in their little circle was pretty awesome. They were really supportive of him and didn’t care that he was blind. They still treated him as they would anyone else. I think their personalities fit well with Will. They all had me laughing so much. I especially loved Cecily. When Will couldn’t understand things, she was right there explain everything to him in a way that he would be able to comprehend them. She opened his eyes to a lot of things as well.

His parents (especially his dad) kind of ticked me off a lot. I felt like his dad wasn’t as supportive about Will having the surgery and I felt like his mom was way too pushy about it. I can understand with all the health risks and why his dad wouldn’t be as okay about it, but I felt like he could have been a little bit more supportive of Will’s decision at the beginning.

I honestly thought Will struggled more after he had the surgery to fix his eyes. With going your entire life blind, I am sure it’s very overwhelming being able to see the world. It’s confusing, it’s a lot to take in, and you have to relearn everything all over again. Will embraced it and I felt that even with all his struggles, he still tried to make the best of it.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I am so glad I had the chance to read it. It opens your eyes to a whole new world and way of seeing things. The world isn’t always what you expect it to be. I was a little disappointed with the last 30 or so pages, because I felt like it was lacking the excitement that I felt should have been there. I wanted more from it and Will when he was seeing different places. I enjoyed the story and the characters overall though. I would definitely recommend reading this book. It will be released January 3rd, 2017, so be on the look out for it!

I believe this is the actual cover. The ARC I was sent didn’t have the final cover on it.

By the way, I already started to fail with my wrap up challenge blog posts and bookstagram pictures, sigh. It’s Christmas time though, my mind is elsewhere. I need to play catch up with my pictures and corresponding blog posts soon! I think I am behind 4 or 5 days, ugh. I’ll probably add all the posts I skipped into one blog post at some point this coming week.

Day 7: Worst book of 2016.

2016wrapupchallenge

Hello!🙂

I seen this December photo a day challenge on theeminha‘s bookstagram and decided to take part in it on my bookstagram (foreverbookish_ – feel free to add me!) and also turn them into blog posts as well. You can check out my original post over here with all the topics for each day if you want to take part in it as well!

Day 7: Worst book of 2016.

I had quite a few two star reads this year, which is never fun. I want to love all of the books that I read! Quite a few of the ones that I really thought were the worst are books that I don’t own copies of. I am going to post book covers for two and then also share some others that I thought weren’t particularly that great that I do own.

img_2360

The Last Star by Rick Yancey
Illuminae by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff

The Last Star, WTF. Seriously? I actually loved the first two books in the 5th Wave series and I have no clue what the heck happened here. Completely unsatisfying and a disappointment. HELLLOOOOOO unpopular opinion! Illuminae, I tried so hard to love you. SO SO hard. I was beyond bored pretty much the entire book until the last 100 or so pages.

theheirstealingsnow

The Heir by Kiera Cass
Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige

It’s a little bittersweet with both of these books. I actually really enjoyed the Selection series a lot (minus America, couldn’t stand her) and The Heir was just crap compared to the first three books. With Stealing Snow, I LOVE Paige’s Dorothy Must Die series, but something just wasn’t working out right with this book. For the life of me, I couldn’t connect with the characters or the story.

What’s the worst book you read in 2016?

I will be back tomorrow with day eight. The topic for day eight will be my “favorite ship of 2016″.

Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, Lauren Myracle
3.5 out of 5 stars.

“Sometimes when we forget to do things for others, it’s because we’re too wrapped up in our own problems.”

Goodreads Description: Sparkling white snowdrifts, beautiful presents wrapped in ribbons, and multicolored lights glittering in the night through the falling snow. A Christmas Eve snowstorm transforms one small town into a romantic haven, the kind you see only in movies. Well, kinda. After all, a cold and wet hike from a stranded train through the middle of nowhere would not normally end with a delicious kiss from a charming stranger. And no one would think that a trip to the Waffle House through four feet of snow would lead to love with an old friend. Or that the way back to true love begins with a painfully early morning shift at Starbucks.

This is my pretty short review of Let It Snow.  I wanted to add a few holiday themed books to my TBR this month (which I hope to post soon, just waiting on a book to be delivered).

Story 1: The Jubilee Express. I was cracking up the entire time. Lots of laughing out loud moments. This story was pretty hilarious and I really enjoyed it. Jubilee and Stuart were so funny and I loved their commentary, smart remarks, and conversations between each other.

Story 2: A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle. This one was not as good as the first story. It was enjoyable at times, but other times I just wanted it to end. I found it hard to connect and care about the characters. JP was funny though. This was John Green’s story. I just have bad luck with his writing, I think. I’ve only ever liked TFIOS. I’ve tried to read other books by him and they always end up as DNF. The story wasn’t completely terrible, just not as good as the first one.

Story 3: The Patron Saint of Pigs. This last story in this book was okay. I found it a bit boring at times and the MC (Addie) was kind of annoying a lot of the time. This was my least favorite of the three stories.

Overall, this was a cute book. It had its ups and downs. The first story was my favorite. I liked how all the stories in this book connected throughout the three stories and how they all collided in the end.

“Christmas is never over, unless you want it to be… Christmas is a state of mind.”

Winter by Marissa Meyer. I am pretty sure that this is the biggest book that I read this year. It is over 800 pages! I’ve said it many many times before, but I have a lot of mixed feelings about this series. Cinder and Winter are probably the only two books that I actually loved in the series. The others were okay, but not that great.

What was the biggest book you’ve read this year?

December TBR.

decembertbr

Hello! 🙂

Happy December! I can’t believe that it is already December. This year flew by and it’s pretty crazy! As always, I have a love/hate for monthly TBRs because I don’t always stick to them. I continued to make them all year even though I swore I wouldn’t do it, lol. I’m a little late with posting this, but I was waiting for one of my books to get delivered to me. With that being said…here is my December TBR!

img_2306

The Twelve Days of Dash & Lily by Rachel Cohn, David Levithan
My True Love Gave To Me edit by stephanie perkins
Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, Lauren Myracle
Love and First Sight by Josh Sundquist
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

In the spirit of December and Christmas, I decided to add a few holiday books to my TBR list this month. I loved the first Dash & Lily book, so I can’t wait to read the second one. I may reread (or listen) to the first book to refresh my memory. My True Love Gave To Me and Let It Snow are both books with short stories in them, so I think they will be easy to read and fly through. I actually finished Let It Snow the other day and will have a mini review posted up soon. I was sent an ARC of Love and First Sight and it’s releasing in January, so onto my December TBR it goes. I am actually really looking forward to reading it. I’ve been wanting to read Carry On since release day last year. I’ve had it on my TBR almost every single month since then and never read it. I wanted to make it a goal to read it before the end of the year. I don’t know that I actually will, to be honest; but I’ll just throw it up on my TBR for old time sake. 😛

monstersofmenthefevercode

Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness (e-book)
The Fever Code by James Dashner (audiobook)

I started the Chaos Walking trilogy last year and I am hoping to finish it this year. I took a looooong break between reading The Knife of Never Letting Go and now the final book. I already started it, but only read a little over 100 pages. Let’s see what happens and if I can finish it this month. The Fever Code was on my TBR and I actually finished it though and it was pretty good! 😀 It was a 4 out of 5 stars for me.

What’s on your December TBR? Have you read any of these books?

I am crossing my fingers I am able to finish every single one of these books, but I’ll be happy if I at least finish my holiday books and my ARC. We’ll see what happens!

**I skipped day 4 (your favorite genre this year), because it’s always hard for me to pick/determine book genres and all of that. I just read whatever and don’t particularly focus on genres. Looking at the  list of books I read this year, it’s kind of all over the place and pretty even I would say. Anyway, onto day 5!

Day 5: A book you’ve planned to read this year, but you didn’t.

img_2305

I have had The Darkest Minds on my TBR for the longest time. I think since 2013 and I have yet to get around to reading it. I planned to finally read it this year, but never got around to reading it. I am going to make it a point to FOR REAL read this book next year. I think maybe if I start it at the beginning of the year I can get it out of the way and finally read, haha.

What book did you plan to read this year, but didn’t read?

I will be back tomorrow with day four. The topic for day four will be “biggest book you read this year“.

Random|| Update & Pictures.

Hello! 🙂

It’s been awhile since I’ve last done this type of post. I think the middle of October was the last time. It is definitely time for a new one. Warning; you might see double pictures because I can’t remember where I stopped since it’s been awhile since I’ve last done this post. It will also be picture heavy! Anyway, onto my life update and pictures!

The beach that is down the street from me has Margaritaville that just opened up there, so my mom, aunt, and I went to the beach and walked around. We got frozen margaritas and other drinks. It was a lot of fun. We also ate at 5 o’clock Somewhere, which was really nice. They had chairs in the sand and it was really cool!

Mine and the fiance’s Halloween engagement party was in October as well. It turned out to be a lot of fun minus all the wind that messed up decorations. My sisters and I made these treats for the party and I dressed up as Harry Potter. I then resurrected my HP costume to go to a Halloween party at the local bar with my sister. She was a cat, so I told her that she could be my house pet. hah.

I was able to visit my dad in November. It was the first time in a really long time (years) since I last seen him. It was a lot of fun being able to see him again and I definitely want to make it a point to see him more. He had the coolest yard and garden. So many different plants, flowers, and trees. Most that he grew himself and takes care of. Mom, dad, and I in the top picture.

We found a fire pit at Goodwill for $30 and decided to buy it. Since then we have been having a ton of fires and roasting marshmallows and making smores a lot lol. Pretty much addicted lately, for sure.

In November they have the Camelot Days Renaissance festival here. It’s always fun seeing everyone dressed up. They also have different shows to watch, tents to buy stuff, and FOOOOOD! I may or may not have been always found at the beer tent. 😛 I love this festival because I love Merlin and King Arthur.

img_1621

I went to see some of my favorite bands in November. I sadly already moved all my pictures from the concert to my other computer, so you only get a picture of The Wonder Years. I also seen Knuckle Puck, Real Friends, Moose Blood, and Seaway. I love them all so much, so it was cool getting to see them all in one night! I’ve seen Knuckle Puck and Real Friends like five times, hah. They never get old, love them so much. I seen The Wonder Years a couple times and it was my first time seeing Moose Blood and Seaway. So much fun!

Thanksgiving! I didn’t get a ton of pictures on Thanksgiving. To be honest, I was pretty drunk most of Thanksgiving. OOPS. I was bored and started drinking early, hah. It was still a lot of fun and the food was awesome of course. 😀 October is totally in the Thanksgiving spirit, hah.

It’s that time! It’s that freaking time of the year! FA-LA-LA-LA-LA! I actually had my Christmas tree up the day after Halloween, because I am that person. Last year I made a fireplace for my stockings. This year I made a giant present and decorated it and hung our stockings. I even got another stocking for October, because she needed one too!

The fiance’s parents got me this really cool sugar skull Christmas ornament! I also got myself this really awesome doormat with flamingos wearing Christmas hats. I love Flamingos. I also got some other cool Christmas ornaments this year for my tree, sorry no pictures. 😦 I failed you guys.

I rearranged my bookshelves. This was in October and now they are a disaster again. Mostly cluttered with stuff that I don’t know where else to put them, sigh. Also, ColbyJack will forever be the king of photobombing my bookstagraming. Doctor Who recently turned 53, so you know I had to take a picture. I LOVE DW so much.

Some random pictures. My sister bought me this cute shark bracelet. Everyone knows I am obsessed with sharks. Kokomo – “Off the Florida Keys, there’s a place called kokomo; that’s where you go to get away from it all.”. Everyone knows that I am obsessed with the Beach Boys. I actually seen them in concert twice and John Stamos played with them both times! In case you didn’t know, John Stamos is my celebrity crush. First hot chocolate of the season. I sent out my wedding invitations; it took me over four hours to get them done! And it’s that time of the year for peppermint bark. It’s my favorite Christmasy candy.

ARE YOU STILL WITH ME? SO MANY PICTURES TO SHARE! I THINK I HAVE A FEW MORE SETS AND THEN YOU ARE FREE TO GO, PROMISE.

Some more randoms. I bought this new shirt and I am obsessed with it. I honestly want to wear it everyday and buy it in ALL the colors. Maren (The Worn Bookmark) and Lauren (Shattered Blue) sent the fiance and I some pizza stones for our wedding gifts and we used them and we love them and PIZZA! I started doing the dot-to-dots in my Dot-to-Doc book. Pretty time consuming, but it’s fun.

We took my nephew fishing. He loves to go fishing. I love going to take pictures and read. I used to fish a lot when I was a kid. I even won a fishing trophy in a fishing tournament I was in when I was a kid! I don’t fish anymore though. Now I find it kind of boring, lol. Oh well. I was a kid and didn’t know any better. 😛 And some random sky pictures, because I am a sucker for taking pictures of the sky.

The rest of the pictures below are going to be furbaby pictures, because I love them so much and I always have to include them in my posts, so be prepared for cuteness overload. These first three are furbaby selfies, because I have a problem with forcing them to love me and take pictures with me.

Why yes that is my cat ColbyJack sitting on a bag with cats all over it! I thought it was hilarious, because it’s a cat sitting on a bunch of cats. Also, I totally bought Dax (dog) a beanie and he wore it and he seemed stoked about it. The last picture is a picture of October. I am obsessed with it. She was standing in the window and it was the perfect picture opportunity.

And that is all! HIGH FIVE to you if you finished this entire post!

I actually didn’t mean for it to be this long, but I had so many pictures to share with you guys. I need to do this type of post more often so it was be as crazy LOL. Don’t forget to follow me on my Instagram accounts to see all of these pictures and more that I don’t always post. 😛

Hi!

I’ve been taking part in Maren’s (The Worn Bookmark) read my books challenge over on her blog, where I read the books that I already own versus only new books. I made a TBR jar of all the books I own (NOT including books I bought and will buy in 2016). My goal is to read 30 of my already owned books from that TBR jar aside from recent purchases.

Challenge Stats:

# of older books read in October: 1
# of older books read year to date: 16/30

pretties

Pretties by Scott Westerfeld

Once again I didn’t do too well with reading more older books this month for this challenge. I read a good amount of books overall, but only one qualified for the challenge. Sad to officially say this, but I probably won’t be completing this challenge this year. *crying*

Morgan Rhodes. I read Rhodes’ Falling Kingdoms series and the first book in her Spirits and Thieves series this year. I became instantly obsessed with her books, especially the Falling Kingdoms series. She is definitely one of my new favorite authors and I am so happy I discovered her books this year. I can’t wait to get my hands on Crystal Storm and The Darkest Magic. I am so excited to see where these series go and I am dying for more from her.

Colleen Hoover. I never read a book by CoHo until this year. I have seriously been missing out! Her books have been amazing and I haven’t been let down yet. I love her writing. Her books seriously destroy me every time, yet I can’t seem to stop reading her books. I don’t own them all yet, but have been borrowing from the library. I can’t wait to finish building my CoHo collection though! I have my eyes on the UK editions of the Slammed series on Book Depository.

img_2148

The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon. I read Everything, Everything last year and fell in love with that book. It was one of my favorite books I read in 2015. I pre-ordered Yoon’s second book right away! I had to have it. Sadly, I did not fall in love with this book like I did her first book. I don’t know if it’s because of all the hype and it just didn’t live up to it or what. I still enjoyed it, but it just didn’t blow me away like it did with everyone else. I read Everything, Everything as an ARC and before it blew up with the hype…so maybe hype played a part in it. I really don’t know, but I tried so hard to love it and I’m sad I didn’t! It was a 3.5 stars for me. You can check out my review over here.

crystalstorm

Another one of my most anticipated books of the year is Crystal Storm by Morgan Rhodes. It’ll be released December 13th, so I don’t have it yet. 😦 I seriously need it NOOOW! I have it pre-ordered though and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. It’s the 5th book in the Falling Kingdoms series.

HELLO! 😀

This was a pretty amazing month of reading for me. I read and listened to quite a bit of books this month. I read six books myself and listened to seven audiobooks! I am only three books away from completing my Goodreads challenge. As far as blogging goes, this was probably one of my worst months for blogging. I posted 8-9 times this month. It’s been a crazy year for me though and my mind has been elsewhere the majority of it. I am trying to have a lot of hope that next year after my wedding, things will settle down and I can have a better year with blogging and staying on top of everything in the bookish community and blogosphere. I also got a new laptop, so I think maybe that’ll also help with staying on top of blogging. I love it here and the community and I’m sad this year wasn’t as great as I had hoped.

Onto my recap! You can find a full list of these books and the other books I read this year over here. All will be linked to Goodreads below and I will also link to individual blog posts for them if I did a review. *sadly I majorly slacked on reviews this month as well*

Physically Read Books:
These are the books that I read by myself (not audiobooks) throughout the month of November.

haroldplatteruglyteapotfantasticbeastshogwartsthesunisalsoastargenafinn

harold patter and the worst child by john marquane – 2 out of 5 stars.
I’ve never read a parody book before. It was pretty entertaining, lol. Definitely hilarious, especially some of the name changes. Here’s several I thought were especially hilarious: Elbows Mumbledore, Sevenup Grape, Herheinie Danger, Thesaurus Drawbridge, Moldytart, Hogfarts, DeMentos.

the ugly teapot: hannah by fred holmes – REVIEW. – 4.5 out of 5 stars.
I really loved this book. I enjoyed everything about it. It had so many likable characters, especially the main character Hannah. It was a fun adventure with a great cast of characters. There were times where I laughed a lot and even times where I got teary eyed. Quite a few twists and turns and the ending was a pretty big shock to me; I honestly did not see it coming. Feel free to check out my review for more.

fantastic beasts and where to find them by newt sscamander/j.k. rowling – 4 out of 5 stars.
LOVED! It was cool learning more about the different magical creatures in a world that we have all grown to love. It was more of an informational type book and no real plot line or anything like that. More like a dictionary of magical creatures. Ron, Harry, and Hermione’s commentary was pretty funny too. Hagrid should probably read this book.

hogwarts: an incomplete and unreliable guide by j.k. rowling – 4 out of 5 stars.
This was enjoyable. It was cool learning more about Hogwarts and secrets and getting Rowling’s thoughts on them as well. I can’t wait to pick up the other two e-books.

the sun is also a star by nicola yoon – REVIEW. – 3.5 out of 5 stars.
The Sun Is Also a Star wasn’t everything I hoped it would be, but it was still enjoyable at times. It’s easy to read and the writing and style is really good. I may have had my expectations set way too high, especially after Yoon’s first book being so amazing. It didn’t quite live up to that. I wanted more from the ending. The ending didn’t leave me satisfied. Feel free to check out my review for more.

gena/finn by hannah moskowitz, kat helgeson – 3 out of 5 stars.
I flew through this book, but I’m not really sure how I feel about it. I have a lot of mixed feelings about it. It is told in blog posts, IMs, text messages, and emails and I think that is what made it easy to fly through the book. It was good at times, but other times it was a bit weird. The ending was so unexpected and pretty dark.

Audiobooks:
These are the books that I listened to the audio versions throughout the month of November.

thewraththeroseandthedaggerprettieshowtolove99daysglass sworduntilthebeginning

the wrath and the dawn by renee ahdieh – 4 out of 5 stars.
the rose and the dagger by renee ahdieh – 4.5 out of 5 stars.
The Wrath and the Dawn was an audiobook reread. I wasn’t that big a fan when I read it myself last year. I decided to reread the audiobook before starting the second book in the series. I actually liked it SO much better as an audiobook. I actually enjoyed it so much more. I LOVED the Rose and the Dagger too, which I am stoked about. When I realized how much I loved the Wrath and the Dawn more as an audiobook, I decided to listen to the Rose and the Dagger instead of reading it myself and I am glad I did. SO much love for these books now. It’s crazy that I went from “ehh whatever” about them to now loving them.

pretties by scott westerfeld – 3 out of 5 stars.
I’m not really sure what to say about Pretties. It was okay. I didn’t like it anymore more or less than I liked Uglies. It was pretty much the same. It was enjoyable some of the time.

how to love by katie cotugno – 4.5 out of 5 stars.
This book was so freaking good and it pretty much wrecked me. I was getting major Colleen Hoover vibes from it and I loved it. I had some major love/hate going on for Sawyer.

99 days by katie cotugno – 3 out of 5 stars.
WTF!? This book was so weird, but I was so addicted to it. I couldn’t stop listening to the audiobook. I have a feeling Katie Cotugno is going to be a new favorite author.

glass sword by victoria aveyard – 2.5-3 out of 5 stars.
I couldn’t decide on a final star count. I had mixed feelings. I LOOOOVED Red Queen so much and I am so disappointed with Glass Sword. It dragged on and on. Not a whole lot happened and it was pretty boring a lot of the time.

until the beginning by amy plum – 3.5 out of 5 stars.
I have mixed feelings about this. I absolutely LOVED the first book so much and this one just wasn’t as great. I enjoyed it, but wish it would have been as good as the first book.

Currently Reading:
These are the books that I started in the month of November, but have not finished yet.

monstersofmenthefevercode

monsters of men by patrick ness
the fever code by james dashner

I am a little over 100 pages into Monsters of Men, so far it’s pretty good. I stopped reading so much toward the last week and a half of the month, so I didn’t ever get around to finishing this one. I started the Fever Code audiobook, but then I hit a bit of an audiobook slump the last week or so of the month and stopped listening. I still have it checked out from the library for another week or so, so I will hopefuly have that finished at the beginning of December and hopefully I will finish Monsters of Men as well.

What books did you read this month? Feel free to link me to your wrap up/recap posts!

Day 1: First book you read in 2016.

For this post I am going to use the first book I read myself and the first audiobook I listened to of the year.

img_2119

Cress by Marissa Meyer. I rated Cress 3 out of 5 stars. I actually wasn’t too impressed with the Lunar Chronicles series. Cress was probably one of my least favorites of the series. I really enjoyed Cinder and Winter, but the others were just “meh”.

Shattered Blue by Lauren Bird Horowitz. I did an audiobook reread of Shattered Blue. I read it last year and absolutely loved it. I really enjoyed the audiobook for this one just as much as when I read it myself. I am so stoked that the second book in the series; Renegade Red is releasing in March! This was a 5 out of 5 stars for me.
