Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
5 out of 5 stars.
“We all live day to day completely oblivious to the fact that we’re a part of a much larger and stranger reality than we can possibly imagine.”
Goodreads Description: “Are you happy with your life?” Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious. Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits. Before a man Jason’s never met smiles down at him and says, “Welcome back, my friend.” In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable–something impossible. Is it this world or the other that’s the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could’ve imagined—one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.
I’ve read Blake Crouch’s Wayward Pines trilogy and I loved it so much. When I heard about Dark Matter, I knew I had to read it. It’s been getting a lot of hype and attention since it came out and this time I actually agree with all the hype!
Dark Matter was INTENSE! There was non-stop action going on and it was so fast paced. It was hard to put down and each page had something crazy happening. It never slowed down for me, which I loved. There were a lot of scientific aspects to this story, but Crouch did a really good job with explaining things. I love his writing style and how easy it is to read his books, especially this one.
I loved Jason’s character and I was rooting for him the entire time. It was so hard not to fall in love with him and his story. I went through all the emotions with him and I felt really connected to him and the story. I honestly believe this book is so relatable on so many levels. I’m sure there is countless times where we wonder “what if I did things this way” “what if I said no instead of yes” “what if I said yes instead of no” “what if, what if, what if”.
This book tackles that very question and it’s done so amazingly well that you want to believe it’s true and that itself is a SCARY thing and you’ll see how scary after you read this book! After reading this book, you’ll also learn to appreciate the life choices that you made, because in the blink of an eye you can lose everything and you may not ever get it back.
Overall, this book was amazing. I loved every single thing about it. There’s so much going on and a lot of it is so crazy! I found myself countless times having to stop reading, because I wasn’t sure I could handle anymore of the craziness (in a good way, it was so good). It’s hard to put down. It’s fast paced. Awesome main character that you will love and root for. It’s so well written and I applaud Crouch for writing another amazing book! I highly recommend this book to everyone.
“Until everything topples, we have no idea what we actually have, how precariously and perfectly it all hangs together.”
Have you read Dark Matter? If so, what did you think? If not, do you plan to?
I hope you have a great day!
