April gone already? It was a busy month for me and I went into April with a reading slump that had been ongoing over the last few months. It slowly started to go away though and I was able to read and listen to a ton of books. Toward the last couple of weeks I was flying through books and audiobooks.
Now for my recap. You can find a full list of these books and the other books I read this year over here. All will be linked to Goodreads below and I will also link to individual blog posts for them if I did a review.
Physically Read Books:
These are the books that I read by myself (not audiobooks) throughout the month of April.
kindred spirits by rainbow rowell – 3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
This was a cute story, but I think that I would have liked it even more if I was a Star Wars fan. Still a cute and short read though.
too late by colleen hoover – REVIEW. – 4.5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
CoHo is amazing and so was this book! You can read it for free over on Wattpad. I love that she added a prologue and two epilogues, because I needed MORE! Feel free to check out my review for more!
the moth and the flame by renee ahdieh – 3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I enjoyed this novella. It was a nice addition. I don’t really know what else to say about it, but it was good. I haven’t really been sold on The Wrath and the Dawn, but we’ll see what happens when I read The Rose and the Dagger.
the serpent king by jeff zentner – REVIEW. – 5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
The Serpent King is one of my favorite reads so far this year. So many feels. This book tore me to pieces, but it was so good. I laughed, I cried, I got angry. I highly recommend this book. You’ll want to read something fun afterward though, because it’s emotionally draining. Feel free to check out my review for more!
top 8 by katie finn – 3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
what’s your status? – katie finn – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I was looking for a fun/easy read (The Serpent King almost killed me) and since I love Katie Finn’s other series (Broken Hearts & Revenge series), I decided to check out these. They were definitely fun and easy to read, just what I needed to get me out of the reading slump I was in. I really enjoyed these two books and now I need to see about getting my hands on the third one!
Audiobooks:
These are the books that I listened to the audio versions throughout the month of April.
falling kingdoms by morgan rhodes – REVIEW. – 3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I liked Falling Kingdoms, but it had so many similarities to the BBC show Merlin that I kept mostly thinking about Merlin and trying to point out all the similiarities, lol. So I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have had I not ever watched Merlin. I still liked it enough to continue the series. Feel free to check out my review for more!
rebel spring by morgan rhodes – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
Rebel Spring was defintely a lot better than Falling Kingdoms was, so I was thrilled about that. There is so much death though, lol! I honestly thought by the end of the book that there would be no characters left. HAHA! 😛 I really loved this one though and can’t wait to start the third one!
winter by marissa meyer -4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I have a love/hate for The Lunar Chronicles. I have not loved this series like everyone else. I don’t think it’s the greatest series ever like everyone else. It was an okay series. I was bored a lot of the time with this series. I will say though that Winter was definitely better than all of the other books in the series. The others (Scarlet and Cress) were just “okay”, but Winter was a good finish to the series.
seveneves by neal stephenson – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I really enjoyed Seveneves a lot. It was a pretty crazy book and kind of scary at times. It also gives you a lot to think about, which is what makes it scary. The world ends and now what? Some of the humans from Earth try to live in space, so that they can repopulate Earth again when the time comes and Earth is habitable again. Crazy stuff! There are two parts of the book and I did enjoy the first part a bit more than the second. It was still pretty amazing overall.
alienated by melissa landers – 3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
invaded by melissa landers – 3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I was hoping that I would love Alienated and Invaded, but sadly I did not. It was an okay series so far. I believe there is a third book coming out this year. I didn’t really connect with the characters too much and there was MAJOR insta-love and the relationship was way too weird for me. The books were funny at times, but mostly just boring and annoying. Kind of disappointing, because Alienated was on my TBR forever and I really wanted to read it and love it.
soldier by julie kagawa – 5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
The Talon series will forever have my heart. I love this series more than words. Soldier was nothing short of amazing. I’m pretty obsessed with Julie Kagawa. Soldier is the third book in the Talon series. It just came out last week and now I have to wait another year for the next book and it’s going to kill me. I highly recommend the Talon series to you guys! I’m still not in love with the main character Ember, but everything else about this series is so awesome.
Currently Reading:
These are books that I have started, but didn’t get to finish before the end of April.
Everland by Wendy Spinale
I actually just started this book, so I can’t say too much about it. It’ll be released May 10th and I was given the ARC, so I really want to read it and get a review posted. I also have it on my TBR, so I am excited. I love Peter Pan and this is a retelling of that. So stoked for it! “Forget the story of Peter Pan you know. Because in Everland, the only way to grow up is to survive.”
That’s all for my April recap. Have you read any of these books? Link me to all of your recap posts! 🙂
Book Haul || April. – books (and other bookish things) I got in the month of April.
I hope you have an amazing day!
wow, you had a great reading month! here’s my recap 🙂 https://curlyhairbibliophile.wordpress.com/2016/05/01/april-wrap-up/
I’m glad I finally had a good reading month! My on-going reading slump was killing me, lol.
Hey, Ashley! How are you doing? Sorry, I’ve been AWOL for the past few weeks, and I’m trying to catch up on everything that’s been happening with my blogger friends. 😀
You had a great reading month (unlike me, I couldn’t even finish one 400-page book *cries*)! I definitely know what you mean about the Lunar Chronicles, though. I did enjoy each book, but I don’t think it’s the greatest series in the world, like a lot of people. Winter was a fun ride, though. What did you think about Jacin’s character? He grew to be my favorite character in the series!
Hey! 😀 I’m doing pretty good! Glad to be out of this reading slump for the most part! I hope you’re doing good. I’ve been kind of a little AWOL with the blogging this year. It’s been a pretty busy year so far and I’m finding it harder to sit down to blog, sadly. I’m still trying to do at least a post or two a week, so I don’t completely fall off the face of the blogosphere, haha.
There were parts of each book in the Lunar Chronicles that were enjoyable, but it definitely wasn’t the greatest. I really wanted to love it so much like everyone else! I have a horrible track record when it comes to hyped books though. I tend to not like them as much as everyone else. I’m glad that Winter was so much better though. I would have been annoyed if I continued with it and it was bad, lol. I LOVED Jacin! He definitely grew to be one of my favorites as well. I did love Cinder and Kai too. They were pretty much my favorite out of all the books and mostly why the rest of the series annoyed me, lol. I wanted to just read about them and not all the other characters and I didn’t like that it switched back and forth between all of their stories.
Huh? Kagawa’s Talon series is four books now (or is it more)? Damn, I thought it was a trilogy too. And I’m so happy you enjoyed Serpent King! I’m low-key (whenever I can and if I remember) poking Jeff to write a novella for the fantasy book that Travis reads LOL.
The Talon series is supposed to be five books I believe. I have a love/hate for it because I love the series, but hate having to wait a year for the next one lol. A novella for Travis’ fantasy book would be amazing. I was actually thinking about Fangirl when I would read parts from Travis’ book and how Rowell wrote Carry On based on the book the MC in Fangirl loved haha and hoping this would be a thing! LOL.
Man, you really make me want to read The Serpent King! And I definitely need to get some CoHo books. Glad you enjoyed Winter! 😀
I hope you do read The Serpent King! It was SO good! Once you read one CoHo book, you’ll probably be addicted! 😛 I’m glad I liked Winter. It was definitely a lot better than the others.
Awesome! Haha I bet I will be! 😀
I’m glad that Winter redeemed the series for you. As you know, I loooove that series and Winter was just the most epic ending and pretty much everything I could have asked for haha. I just managed to get hold of a copy of Kindred Spirits (or Aila did) and I can’t wait to read it. I’m not a Star Wars fan either so I don’t know how enjoyable it’ll be for me but I know I’ll enjoy the writing at least!
