Hi 🙂

I am still in quite the reading slump, but I think I am just going to force myself to get through my current read regardless. If I don’t, I feel like I will never start reading again. 😦 I cannot let that happen! I need to get back into the swing of things. I haven’t been the same since my trip to California, lol sigh.

Currently Reading:

Seveneves by Neal Stephenson

I’m only a little over 100 pages into Seveneves, but I’m really enjoying it. It’s so interesting and I wish I wasn’t in this reading slump, so I could fly through it. It’s a really long book (870 pages), so I have a ton left to read. Here’s the Goodreads description:

A catastrophic event renders the earth a ticking time bomb. In a feverish race against the inevitable, nations around the globe band together to devise an ambitious plan to ensure the survival of humanity far beyond our atmosphere, in outer space. But the complexities and unpredictability of human nature coupled with unforeseen challenges and dangers threaten the intrepid pioneers, until only a handful of survivors remain . . .Five thousand years later, their progeny—seven distinct races now three billion strong—embark on yet another audacious journey into the unknown . . . to an alien world utterly transformed by cataclysm and time: Earth.

Recently Finished:

The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness

I LOVED The Knife of Never Letting Go and it pretty much emotionally drained me and I never started the second book. I finally got around to reading it and I was so disappointed. It was nowhere near as good as The Knife of Never Letting Go (rated 5 stars) was. I rated The Ask and the Answer 3.5 stars. It wasn’t as exciting until the last 100 or so pages. It took me quite awhile to read it, because it dragged on bit for me and was a little boring. I also didn’t like that it switched between Todd and Viola. I’m not a big fan of Viola and I really just wanted to read about Todd. So sad that I didn’t love it as much as I did the first book. It was still really good at times, but it fell really flat for me compared to the first book.

Reading Next:

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner

I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about The Serpent King, so I decided to buy a copy. Since I gave myself book buying restrictions, I am reading it this month. I decided I would only be buying books if I planned to read them within a month of buying them. If I don’t plan to read it right away, then I don’t bother to buy the books. I also really just want to read The Serpent King, because I want to see what everyone is raving about. I hope I love it, because I don’t have the best track record with hyped books. I tend to not like them as much as everyone else.

What are you currently reading? Recently finished? Reading next? Let me know and link me to your posts if you have one!

I hope you have a great day!

  1. Same. I run away from hyped books like a disturbed deer. It takes me, like, months (sometimes years or a decade) before I read the hyped book.

Hope you get over the reading slump. Whenever I get those, I pick up fluffy reads or catch-up with tv series. =D

    • It usually takes me months to read most hyped books too. I buy them, but then they end up sitting on my shelf for awhile. Thank you! I hope I can get out of this reading slump too. I’ve been watching a lot of TV lately.

    • I had to stop requesting books on Netgalley, because I own just way too many books and I need to read what I already have or I will forever be drowning in unread books LOL!

    • Hopefully you can get around to reading the Chaos Walking trilogy soon. I still have to read the last book, but so far it’s really good even if I wasn’t a huge fan of the second book.

    • I think I may try picking up The Serpent King today. Maybe it’ll get me out of this slump. I really like Seveneves and want to continue it, but I need to try something to get me out of this slump and that one isn’t helping.

  2. I’m sorry you’re still in a book slump. I had those quite often last year, and they are terrible!! I hope The Serpent King lives up to the hype and you enjoy it. I’ve heard nothing but great things about it – but like you, hyped books tend to disappoint me more often then not. Hopefully not the case with this one!

    • I’ve had reading slumps a lot since the last few months of last year. I don’t think it ever fully went away, sadly. I really hope The Serpent King doesn’t disappoint! I don’t know why I don’t love hyped books that much! I think I just try to find anything that is wrong with it instead of just enjoying them like everyone else.

    • Yeah, it wasn’t as great as The Knife of Never Letting Go. It was still a good book though, but I wish it were better. I think I expected so much more from it because The Knife was so amazing. YES! I cried so much with the character death too. I never thought I would ever grow to like them, but I did.

  3. Seveneves sounds really interesting and I really want to get a copy of The Serpent King as well! And I still have to read the Chaos Walking sequels… Now I see you didn’t enjoy The Ask And The Answer as much as the first book, I’m not so sure I want to ‘spoil’ The Knife Of Never Letting Go though. 😉

    Happy reading! Here’s my WWW.

    • So far Seveneves is super interesting. I’m not at all too far into it since it’s so many pages though! So 140 pages doesn’t seem like a lot when there are over 800! haha. Yeah, it sucked that The Ask and the Answer wasn’t as good as the first one. It was still a good book and I do still want to finish the series, but the first book was just so much better in my opinion.

  4. Isn’t there a third Chaos Walking book? Do you think you’ll finish the series? Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

    • Yes, there is a third book in the Chaos Walking trilogy. I’ll probably be starting that next month. I still liked The Ask and the Answer enough to want to see how the series ends.
