Top Ten Resolutions We Have For 2016 (can be bookish, personal resolutions, “I resolve to finally read these 10 books, series I resolve to finish in 2016, etc.)

Hi 🙂

I am not entirely sure how I want this post to go, so warning that it may be all over the place and possibly really random. This will be a mix between bookish, personal, and blogging resolutions.

In 2016 I want to…

Get organized in both my personal life and the blogosphere.  I think I did pretty good for my first year of blogging, but I think with a little more organization I can do even better. I am also completely NOT organized in my personal life. Sometimes I don’t even know how I am even an adult, lol. The boyfriend and I always say how we’re not proper adults. I’m on the hunt for the perfect planner in the hopes that it will help.

Drop the TBRs and read whatever I am in the mood for. I’ve recently noticed that when I make TBRs, I don’t stick to them. I get pressured to read those books because I said I would read them. Making monthly TBRs puts me in BIG reading slumps. I want to avoid as many unnecessary reading slumps as I can. I want to read ALL THE BOOKS, but these sneaky reading slumps get in the way.

Buy less books, because I am drowning in books and not enough bookshelf space! I want to try to buy less and read what I already have. I need to stop buying so many books, especially if I know that I don’t plan on reading them right away. It will also save me money in the long run, lol. Here’s a fun fact that is probably not really fun; I have maybe 300 physical books (give or take & not counting ebooks) and I only owned 20 of those physical books BEFORE 2015. So there you go…the majority of those were bought IN 2015.

Save more and spend less. I have spent so much money in 2015 that it left me stressed out by time the end of the year hit. The boyfriend and I are currently doing the 52 week money saving challenge, so by the end of 2016 we should have about $2600 saved! I am trying to get my butt to Hawaii! *waves* Hi Lauren & Ninja!! I am actually really excited about this money saving challenge, so I think this will be what makes me stick to it!

Finish older books that are collecting dust on my bookshelves. I bought so many books in 2015 that the majority of the ones that I really wanted to read are now collecting dust. I am excited for the read my books challenge, so I can finally get around to some of those. Some of my highly anticipated 2015 reads are still sitting on my shelves unread. It’s the saddest thing, really.

Add more variety on my blog. There are so many days where I have no idea what to write about. I dread those days, because I love blogging and it’s sad when I have nothing to say. I also start feeling guilty and then blogging starts to feel like a chore. I never want it to feel like a chore, because then it’s no longer fun for me. I’m sure I have tons to say if I really think about it.

Finish my unfinished series, because I know I started a bunch of series in 2015 and never continued with them. I used to never do this by the way. I used to read every single book in the series before moving onto something else. Now I read a book from the series and then start something else and it’s a bad habit, considering most books coming out it seems are part of a series.

Declutter my entire apartment and probably my entire life, really.  I am head to toe (not literally, but maybe close) of things I probably haven’t even touched in years. I am pretty sure I am subconsciously driving myself insane with how much a mess everything is. I think I’ll have a huge weight lifted off me (and my apartment) once that happens. I think I’ll be able to sleep better at night knowing my closet isn’t stuffed full of nonsense.

Physically read more books rather than listen to tons of audiobooks. This year I listened to over 70 audiobooks and actually read myself 56 books. That’s not bad, but I want to read MORE on my own! This does not mean I will be giving up audiobooks altogether. I could never do that now that I discovered how amazing it is! I think it’ll also help more with getting my physically owned books read as well. Like I mentioned above, I have A LOT (not counting the over 200 e-books)! I told you I’m drowning in books you guys!

Be healthier and that means eating better (pizza all the time is not cutting it, although I wish it were) and exercising! I’m actually reading this Dr. Phil book he came out with last year I believe (The 20/20 Diet) and I may be a sucker for buying it, but for the next month I will be eating almonds and lentils and praying I survive. 😛 There’s more, but that about sums up the type of food that I can eat, haha. We’ll see. I still need to finish the book and get this thing started! It’s supposed to change my thinking too, so we’ll see about that because I still prefer pizza every day.

  1. I want to try that money saving challenge one. You can eat healthier. It can be a pain, but you can do it! I don’t know that I believe in diets like that, though. I knew when I started a diet if I couldn’t still eat everything I wanted to it wasn’t going to work out. So I went with counting calories and allowing myself splurge meals. 30 lbs down! My TTT

    • Luckily all the food that is part of the diet is food that actually do like (besides the seafood lol), I just don’t ever really eat it. The book also comes with an app that gives you tons of recipes (breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner) that you can make with all of the foods. Also some exercises you can do as well. I just haven’t gotten far enough in the book to really see what it’s all about yet. That’s awesome that you’ve lost 30lbs! Good job on that! 😀 Thanks for linking me to your post!

      • I hope it works out great for you 🙂 I don’t cook. I mean, i can cook, and I’m going to cook more, but… I tend to maybekindofsortof burn things because I get caught up in a book when I should be watching the stove. >.> Its a problem.

  2. These are great resolutions! ❤ My husband and I always feel like were faking at being adults lol. I totally want to get more organized and be healthier as well! And yes, I need to cool it on buying books for awhile. I don't have space for my own personal library haha 😉

    • Thanks 😀 I missed the lesson on how to be a real adult, lol. It’s funny that the boyfriend and I think we’re not. I think getting organized and healthier will definitely be a step in the right direction. I am so out of bookshelf space and I just got a new one for Christmas haha.

      • You’re welcome! 😀 LOL same here! I think so too! Oh man, that’s good you got a new bookshelf then! I’m really out of space and need to get my hands on a new bookshelf ASAP 🙂

  3. I definitely share a number of your resolutions! I hate setting rigid reading goals – reading shouldn’t feel like training for a marathon or preparing for boot camp! And it seems like everyone is resolving to buy fewer books – as a librarian, I hope to see everyone frequenting their local public library more often this year to get their book fix! 🙂

    • It was always so fun making the TBR lists for the month, but then when it got down to actually reading those books it was no longer that fun anymore, lol. I always felt like I had to read them because I already said that I would. Reading should always be fun! 🙂 I bought so many books in 2015, but I probably used the library more anyway. Haha. Especially for their audiobooks!

  4. Great resolutions, I’ve made some very similar ones for this year too. I had a big clear out this week but I still want to get rid of more. I’m trying to pace myself though and keep things I think I might be able to sell on Ebay to help with saving money. It’s interesting that you’re so into audiobooks, I’ve never managed to get into them myself except for if they’re acted out. Do you have any you’d really recommend?
Hope this year goes great for you! Here’s my TTT: https://beccaeatsbooksblog.wordpress.com/2016/01/05/top-ten-resolutions-i-have-for-2016/

    • Thank you 🙂
I haven’t even attempted any clearing out of things yet. I want to find a time soon and start. I have no idea where to even start though, lol.
I love that I was able to get into audiobooks. It helps if you have the right narrator. I’ve had to stop listening to an audiobook if I didn’t like the narrator.
Some of my favorites that I listened to were:
Water for Elephants by Sara Green
      Pines by Blake Crouch
      The Line by J.D. Horn
      Greyhound by Steffan Piper
      Dark Days by Kate Ormand
      Angelfall by Susan Ee
Eleanor & Park || Fangirl both by Rainbow Rowell
The Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater
I listened to all the Harry Potter books on audiobooks and the narrator was so good!
      Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey
The 5th Wave series by Rick Yancey
After the End by Amy Plum
      Virals by Kath Reichs
The list could go one, hahaha. 😛 But really it’s all about finding the right narrator and then it’s so much easier to enjoy it more and stay focused.

      • Haha I was like that but once I started clearing stuff out it was hard to stop.
Thanks for the great list! I’ll have to try some out. I have Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix read by Stephen Fry and he’s great but I’ve never managed to listen to it all properly. Thanks for the tip!

  5. Man, do I need to declutter! From my bookshelves to my closet, I’m drowning (not literally, like you said) in crap I haven’t even looked at for the longest time! So good luck to us! haha

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday!

  6. My goals for the year are pretty much the same as yours. I definitely want to buy less and read more books off my physical TBR pile. I hauled way too many books last year and I want to make sure that I actually read them this year! I enjoy reading your TBR posts every month but I know that personally I never stick to any lists that I make either. I hope getting rid of your TBRs will give you more freedom!

    • I also hauled way too many books last year and books that I know I probably won’t even be reading for a long time. I need to stop doing that. I need to buy the books that I know I plan to read soon. I enjoy making my TBR posts, but then when it gets time to actually read those books…it’s like I don’t want to read them anymore lol. And then I feel guilty for not reading them because I said I would. And then I end up not enjoying them as much as I hoped and I am pretty sure that is what happened to me with the Lunar Chronicles. I forced myself to read them because I said I would read them, sigh. Hopefully this no more TBR thing will be better!
