Sometimes Fablehaven came up on my recommended books on Goodreads and I always thought the book cover looked so awesome and a little creepy! My younger sister (she’s really only a year younger than I am) actually has the entire series, so she let me borrow the first book. The book cover is sparkly and has colorful fairies on it! I borrowed this book back in September from my sister, so I decided to finally read it. Fablehaven is more of a middle grade book and it even had some pictures here and there of certain things in the book, which I thought was nice.

It took little bit for me to get into it and I’m sure that had everything to do with it being middle grade. I think if I was younger than I would have been all over it. It didn’t blow me away and I didn’t find it as amazing as my sister said it was. I did enjoy it though and thought it was a really fun read. I loved all the magical things and the fairies. It was written in a way that you could really seen Fablehaven in your mind and all the creatures that live there.

Seth was a little bit too annoying for me and he was constantly breaking the rules and not listening. I found that super annoying, but to be honest, I find that annoying in real life with kids LOL. I’m SO old, haha. 😛 I liked Kendra and she was pretty much the opposite of her brother Seth. It was interesting that their grandpa left little clues for them in the hopes of them figuring out little things going on in Fablehaven.

There is a few little twists and surprises, which were nice. I was kind of thinking I was going to guess everything going on, because it was a middle grade book and I was sure I would figure it out. I didn’t, so that was nice! Overall, although it didn’t blow me away, I did really enjoy it and I really want to read the next book! I think as the series goes on it’ll get a lot better. I just have this feeling. I think because it was the first book, they were mostly just introducing Fablehaven and the entire mystical creature world. OH YEAH, one more thing…drink the milk.
