Heir of the Unknown is the first book in the Water Travelers series and I am glad that I finally got around to reading it. I thought it was such a fun read and it kept me interested throughout the book. I was dying to know what was going on and was going to happen next! I even stayed up until 1:30AM to finish it knowing that I had to get up for work five hours later. I didn’t want to put it down. I loved the world building and I loved the entire concept of water traveling. I was tempted to jump in my pool and sit at the bottom until I water traveled. I thought Daniel did a great job with describing everything, so that it was easy to visualize it all.

I enjoyed Aaron’s character a lot and poor Aaron had no idea what a lot of things on Earth were, so it was funny reading about his reactions to things. I think he will make the perfect future king. He actually reminded me a little bit of King Arthur (more so from the BBC show Merlin). He was so different from his father and he wants to unite Earth and Upitar, but his father wants nothing to do with Earth or Earthlings. Arthur wanted peace, but his father wanted to rid the world of magic and the people that practiced it. 

At first I really wasn’t a fan of Madi and I didn’t like that she trusted Aaron right off the bat and was fine with running away with him. Girl, calm down. You don’t just run off with a good looking guy in the middle of the night. I also didn’t really like the inta-love that happened right from the beginning; it ended up not being too bad as the story went on though. Madi eventually started to grow on me and I loved her adventurous attitude. I think that’s why she was a little too trusting with Aaron. She wanted adventure and was down for whatever.

Overall, I thought Daniel did a great job with writing this book. I enjoyed it so much and thought it was such an easy, fun read. Lots of laugh out moments and a lot of adventure. There is also so much to learn about Upitar and the water traveler world! There is still so many unanswered questions and so much more to learn. I loved the little twist at the end and I’m itching to find out what happens with that! I can’t wait to pick up the second book (it’s out now!) and see what happens next!
