August flew by! This year is pretty much flying by though; it’s kind of crazy! August was the month of novellas! I was able to finish a series and fully catch up on another. I was kind of disappointed that a lot of the books that I read, I wasn’t blown away with though. It was tough really getting into books this month and really enjoying them. I don’t know if it was me or the books themselves. I know a lot of the books were books that everyone has been loving.
I do have some exciting news though! This month I reached over 300 followers! You guys are amazing! I would not be where I am right now with this blog if it wasn’t for you. I’ve met so many awesome friends and I’m always making new ones too. It’s been so fun connecting with you all on here and on other social media. I love that about blogging! Thank you so much! ❤
Let’s get into the recap! You can find a full list of these books and the other books I read this year over here. All will be linked to Goodreads below and I will also link to individual blog posts for them if I did one. Toward the end of this post I will include some of my plans for the month of September!
DNF (did not finish) Books:
grass hopper jungle by andrew smith
I tried to listen to this audiobook, but I just could not do it. It was pretty horrible and I did not like the main character at all. I don’t plan to ever pick it up again.
Physically Read Books:
ALL BY BARRY LYGA.
blood boy – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
neutral mask – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
career day – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
lucky day – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
blood of my blood – MINI REVIEW. – 5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I finished up the Jasper Dent series this month and it was so amazing! I am so sad that it’s over. It is hands down one of my new favorite series of all-time! I have so much love for this series and so much love for Barry Lyga. I really enjoyed the novellas as well, because it was nice reading a little bit about the other characters. Jasper will forever have my heart though.
ALL BY DANIELLE PAIGE.
no place like oz – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
the witch must burn – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
the wizard returns – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
heart of tin – 2 OUT OF 5 STARS.
the wicked will rise – MINI REVIEW. – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I got all caught up with the Dorothy Must Die series as well! I really enjoyed the majority of the novellas, except Heart of Tin. That one was just horrible! I could not stand the Tin Man. I am excited that in November the new novella for the Scarecrow comes out. The Wicked Will Rise was such a great read. I was able to read it with Shelbie @ Lu-Lu’s Rants & Reads and that was a lot of fun.
the wrath and the dawn by renee ahdieh – REVIEW. – 3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I wasn’t blow away by this book like everyone else was. It was just not for me, I guess. I liked it to an extent, but it really could have been so much better. I’ve linked my review for you above if you want to check it out.
the knife of never letting go by patrick ness – REVIEW. – 5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I loved this book so so much! So many feels reading this book, SO MANY! I recently just finished it and writing my review was so tough! I highly recommend! I just posted my review yesterday. I’ve linked my review for you above if you want to check it out.
harry potter and the order of the phoenix by j.k. rowling – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I really enjoyed the Order of the Phoenix and I am glad that I am finally getting to experience the HP books. It was a lot better than the Goblet of Fire, that’s for sure. Hopefully I’ll be getting to the next book sometime this month or next.
vivian apple at the end of the world by katie coyle – REVIEW. – 3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I was so excited about this book and then it didn’t live up to the excitement. Sigh. It was alright, but it could have been so much better. It did leave me curious enough to want to read the next book eventually. I’ve linked my review for you above if you want to check it out.
saint anything by sarah dessen – REVIEW. – 3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
This was the first Sarah Dessen book I read/listened to, so I had no idea what to really expect from her. It was a pretty good book, but some of the characters bothered me so much that it was hard to really enjoy it. I’ve linked my review for you above if you want to check it out.
mosquitoland by david arnold – REVIEW. – 3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
Writing a review for this book was pretty tough, because I really enjoyed this book, but I wasn’t blown away by most people have been. I also really couldn’t pin point why I wasn’t loving it or blown away by it. It’s so hard to explain. I really liked it, I just didn’t love it. I’ve linked my review for you above if you want to check it out.
ALL BY JANET TASHJIAN.
the gospel according to larry – 3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
vote for larry – 3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I somehow came into the possession of the third book in this series, so I decided to listen to the audiobooks for the first two books since they were quick audiobooks. They were okay, not the greatest, but not horrible.
As for September, I don’t really have any goals or books that I would like to read. August was kind of a bad month for me as far as not really enjoying the majority of these books. So I decided that I may take a little break from reading so much. Maybe that’s what I need. I’m not going to put pressure on myself to get a lot of books read or anything like that.
Shattered Blue by Lauren Bird Horowitz
Never Always Sometimes by Adi Alsaid
I do plan to read these two books though. Shattered Blue is a Netgalley that I received for review. I started Never Always Sometimes on Sunday night, so I plan to read that one as well. As far as other books go, I don’t know. I’m hoping a break or not forcing myself to read a lot of books will get me back into the swing of things and enjoying these books more.
Other things in August, my sister jump started me on being obsessed with Funkos. I mean, I’ve always wanted some of my favorite characters (like Doctor Who, Supernatural, Orphan Black, Sherlock, OUAT), but I always never bought them because I knew once I did I would keep doing it. THAT HAPPENED! My sister bought my my first one, which was the 10th Doctor and then I ended up buying myself two more and I also bought three more books! Sigh. My August book haul is still growing lol!
10 & 12 are my top favorite Doctors.
I didn’t see Sam and Dean when I was getting these, so I decided to get Castiel.
Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo
The Diviners by Libba Bray
Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong
The Ruin & Rising paperback came out this month, so I had to get it. I still need to read the next book in the series, but I loved Shadow and Bone so much. The other two sounded really good and they were only $3-4 each. I think that will be all for this post! It’s so long, sorry about that LOL! Before I go though, here are some links to some of my book haul posts for this month if you want to check those out.
August Book Haul.
I hope you guys have an awesome day! And don’t forget to link me to your recap/wrap up posts if you have one! Bye! ❤

Congratulations, so many followers, and every single one of them is deserved, your blog is amazing Ashley! 🙂 Never Always Sometimes sounds like such a great book, I can’t wait to read it. I hope you’ll enjoy it! 🙂
Thank you! 🙂
I haven’t read too much of Never Always Sometimes yet, but I heard a lot of good things about it.
I’ve been wanting to read The Knife of Never Letting Go so I’m really glad to see you loved it! Yay for Funko! 🙂 I can’t wait to get more lol.
Congratulations on your 300 followers! I’m just about to publish my review of The Wrath and the Dawn and I think my opinion is similar to yours. And I’m starting The Knife of Never Letting Go tonight – I’m not book stalking you, promise! 😉
I won’t start buying Funkos either, even though they’re so cute, because – as you say – once you start I think it’d be hard to stop (love the one of the 10th Doctor!).
Thank you! 🙂 It’s exciting!
I really hope you love The Knife of Never Letting Go. I can’t wait to see what you think about it. 🙂
I’m pretty sure if they had the Sam and Dean ones that I wanted, I would have bought them all lol! I think I will try to hold off though on getting more since the holidays are order the corner! 🙂
Congrats on your 300 followers! You deserve it. 🙂 Good to hear you loved The Knife Of Never Letting Go! I will definitely try to get a copy of both sequels soon. And yay for Jasper Dent! I already know I will do a reread of this series next year. 😉
Thank you! 🙂
I really want to get the other two books in the series soon as well. I’m trying to wait on it though. I requested the second book from the library, so I may wait until that becomes available.
I plan to do a reread of Jasper Dent too! It’s a must! 🙂
Congrats on the 300 followers!!! I’m going to read I Hunt Killers at the start of this month sometime! It’s finally happening! I can’t wait to jump on the Fangirl bandwagon (this is going to get so bloody awkward if I don’t end up liking it lol). Can’t wait to here what you think of Ruin and Rising and Never Always Sometimes, I’ve been wanting to read both of them 🙂
Yes! Post lots of Goodreads progress updates, lol. I need to see if you’re loving it as much as I did! I really hope you do love it. 🙂 i need to read Siege and Storm still, but I’m excited. Since you’re reading I Hunt Killers in September, I’ll read The Darkest Minds in September then!
Oh I plan to!! I so, so hope I do love it!! And Yay! I hope you love it!!!

CONGRATULATIONS! It looks like you had a wonderful month despite the fact that you had a hard time getting into reading. I hope the month of September fares better in the reading part of your life!
Thank you! 🙂
I hope September is better for reading as well. I may take a break for a little while throughout the month, just so I can get back into the swing of things.
