August Recap.

IMG_1598

Hi 🙂

August flew by! This year is pretty much flying by though; it’s kind of crazy! August was the month of novellas! I was able to finish a series and fully catch up on another. I was kind of disappointed that a lot of the books that I read, I wasn’t blown away with though. It was tough really getting into books this month and really enjoying them. I don’t know if it was me or the books themselves. I know a lot of the books were books that everyone has been loving.

I do have some exciting news though! This month I reached over 300 followers! You guys are amazing! I would not be where I am right now with this blog if it wasn’t for you. I’ve met so many awesome friends and I’m always making new ones too. It’s been so fun connecting with you all on here and on other social media. I love that about blogging! Thank you so much! ❤

Let’s get into the recap! You can find a full list of these books and the other books I read this year over here. All will be linked to Goodreads below and I will also link to individual blog posts for them if I did one. Toward the end of this post I will include some of my plans for the month of September!

I tried to listen to this audiobook, but I just could not do it. It was pretty horrible and I did not like the main character at all. I don’t plan to ever pick it up again.

I finished up the Jasper Dent series this month and it was so amazing! I am so sad that it’s over. It is hands down one of my new favorite series of all-time! I have so much love for this series and so much love for Barry Lyga. I really enjoyed the novellas as well, because it was nice reading a little bit about the other characters. Jasper will forever have my heart though.

I got all caught up with the Dorothy Must Die series as well! I really enjoyed the majority of the novellas, except Heart of Tin. That one was just horrible! I could not stand the Tin Man. I am excited that in November the new novella for the Scarecrow comes out. The Wicked Will Rise was such a great read. I was able to read it with Shelbie @ Lu-Lu’s Rants & Reads and that was a lot of fun.

the wrath and the dawn by renee ahdieh – REVIEW.3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I wasn’t blow away by this book like everyone else was. It was just not for me, I guess. I liked it to an extent, but it really could have been so much better. I’ve linked my review for you above if you want to check it out.

the knife of never letting go by patrick ness – REVIEW.5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I loved this book so so much! So many feels reading this book, SO MANY! I recently just finished it and writing my review was so tough! I highly recommend! I just posted my review yesterday. I’ve linked my review for you above if you want to check it out.

harry potter and the order of the phoenix by j.k. rowling – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I really enjoyed the Order of the Phoenix and I am glad that I am finally getting to experience the HP books. It was a lot better than the Goblet of Fire, that’s for sure. Hopefully I’ll be getting to the next book sometime this month or next.

vivian apple at the end of the world by katie coyle – REVIEW.3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I was so excited about this book and then it didn’t live up to the excitement. Sigh. It was alright, but it could have been so much better. It did leave me curious enough to want to read the next book eventually. I’ve linked my review for you above if you want to check it out.

saint anything by sarah dessen – REVIEW.3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
This was the first Sarah Dessen book I read/listened to, so I had no idea what to really expect from her. It was a pretty good book, but some of the characters bothered me so much that it was hard to really enjoy it. I’ve linked my review for you above if you want to check it out.

mosquitoland by david arnold – REVIEW.3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
Writing a review for this book was pretty tough, because I really enjoyed this book, but I wasn’t blown away by most people have been. I also really couldn’t pin point why I wasn’t loving it or blown away by it. It’s so hard to explain. I really liked it, I just didn’t love it. I’ve linked my review for you above if you want to check it out.

I somehow came into the possession of the third book in this series, so I decided to listen to the audiobooks for the first two books since they were quick audiobooks. They were okay, not the greatest, but not horrible.

As for September, I don’t really have any goals or books that I would like to read. August was kind of a bad month for me as far as not really enjoying the majority of these books. So I decided that I may take a little break from reading so much. Maybe that’s what I need. I’m not going to put pressure on myself to get a lot of books read or anything like that.

Shattered Blue by Lauren Bird Horowitz
Never Always Sometimes by Adi Alsaid

I do plan to read these two books though. Shattered Blue is a Netgalley that I received for review. I started Never Always Sometimes on Sunday night, so I plan to read that one as well. As far as other books go, I don’t know. I’m hoping a break or not forcing myself to read a lot of books will get me back into the swing of things and enjoying these books more.

Other things in August, my sister jump started me on being obsessed with Funkos. I mean, I’ve always wanted some of my favorite characters (like Doctor Who, Supernatural, Orphan Black, Sherlock, OUAT), but I always never bought them because I knew once I did I would keep doing it. THAT HAPPENED! My sister bought my my first one, which was the 10th Doctor and then I ended up buying myself two more and I also bought three more books! Sigh. My August book haul is still growing lol!

10 & 12 are my top favorite Doctors.
I didn’t see Sam and Dean when I was getting these, so I decided to get Castiel.

Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo
The Diviners by Libba Bray
Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong

The Ruin & Rising paperback came out this month, so I had to get it. I still need to read the next book in the series, but I loved Shadow and Bone so much. The other two sounded really good and they were only $3-4 each. I think that will be all for this post! It’s so long, sorry about that LOL! Before I go though, here are some links to some of my book haul posts for this month if you want to check those out.

Thoughts: The Knife of Never Letting Go.

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
5 OUT OF 5 STARS.

“Here’s what I think, I think maybe everybody falls. I think maybe we all do. And I don’t think that’s the asking. I think the asking is whether we get back up again.”

Goodreads Description: Todd Hewitt is the only boy in a town of men. Ever since the settlers were infected with the Noise germ, Todd can hear everything the men think, and they hear everything he thinks. Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him — something so awful Todd is forced to flee with only his dog, whose simple, loyal voice he hears too. With hostile men from the town in pursuit, the two stumble upon a strange and eerily silent creature: a girl. Who is she? Why wasn’t she killed by the germ like all the females on New World? Propelled by Todd’s gritty narration, readers are in for a white-knuckle journey in which a boy on the cusp of manhood must unlearn everything he knows in order to figure out who he truly is.

I’m sitting here, staring at my computer screen, thinking about this book, and I have no idea how to even begin to give my thoughts on this book. It was a crazy ride, this book; from beginning to end. I have so much love for Patrick Ness right now. I was a ball of emotions reading this book.

This book will make you happy, and then it’ll make you angry. It’ll rip your heart apart, and then put it back together again. It will never fully be back together. You will be missing pieces. And then it’ll continually shatter your heart over and over again. All hope will be lost. And then you will get your hope back, but…it will be taken away again. You will cry over and over again. Actually….you probably never stopped to begin with.

After I read the last page, I basically felt like this…
tumblr_nmfwr43S4P1u9p9x4o3_250

And here I am…I have no clue how to go about this review. This book was so well written. I’ve never read a Patrick Ness book before. I’ve tried to read one, but put it aside. I decided to give this one a chance and I am so glad I did. My feelings were all over the place as I read this book. Sometimes I didn’t even know how I was supposed to feel. The boyfriend told me to stop crying over my book a few times, lol. I had to stop reading over and over again, because it started to become too much. At one point the boyfriend told me he didn’t know how I could get so affected by a book, lol.

Throughout the entire book I felt like this…
256f801ad316dac967109eb1e1b3c651

Todd Hewitt was hands down such an amazing character. Him, his best friend Manchee the dog, and this mystery girl. They had to face so many things from dangers to the truth behind it all. It was a roller coaster and at times it just felt never-ending. Them catching a break was non-existent and my heart constantly broke over and over again for them, especially Todd.

I can’t wait to read the next book, because this book ends pretty crazy. Overall, this book was amazing and even through all the sadness and craziness, I enjoyed it SO much! If I could, I would rate this book all the stars in the universe. I highly recommend this book! I think I will wait a little while before reading the next book though, because honestly, I need something happy right now. lol.

“The Noise is a man unfiltered, and without a filter, a man is just chaos walking.”

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think?

This review is pretty much all over the place, because that’s exactly how I feel after reading this book. I literally just finished reading it and I know that I haven’t fully processed what has happened. It was a great book though, SO GREAT! I am super stoked to see how the rest of the series goes. I just have to mentally prepare myself before I start the next book, lol. I am being 100% honest when I say that.

So in the next day or two I will be posting my August wrap up post. I’ve been working on it throughout the last week, but it’s not complete yet! I can’t believe August is already over, to be honest! This year flew by. Anyway, I am off to go grocery shopping. I hope everyone has been having an awesome weekend! Bye ❤

I posted my August book haul post last night and it was pretty crazy. You can check that post out OVER HERE! I also did a review for Mosquitoland OVER HERE yesterday as well! It’s going to be a pretty busy day at work today, so I should probably get to that! I hope you guys have an awesome Friday! Bye! ❤

Massive August Book Haul.

IMG_1469

Hey! 🙂

I have a pretty big book haul for you guys! I have been a little slumpish this month (more on that in my recap post), but my book buying was kind of crazy! I got the majority of these books for super super cheap and some of the others I used the rest of my gift card money to get. I’m going to break it down into sections from where I got the books from, so it’s kind of organized since there is tons. You can check out my e-book haul over here and there will be some e-books added to this post that I got since that post. Ready for this crazy haul?

Amazon/Target:

IMG_1446

Winger by Andrew Smith
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) by Felicia Day
Never Always Sometimes by Adi Alsaid
Slasher Girls & Monster Boys by Multiple YA Authors
After the Red Rain by Barry Lyga
Orphan Number Eight by Kim Van Alkemade
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

I also got those Doctor Who books as a gift. I mentioned them in another post earlier this moth. I pretty much used all of the rest of my gift card money to get all of these books over on Amazon. I got Oprhan Number Eight from Target though. I’ve been really wanting to read it, so I was excited when I seen that Target had it. I already read Shadow and Bone (got from the library), but it felt weird if I only bought the sequel, so I got copy of that one too. I had to get After the Red Rain, because BARRY LYGA! I am also super excited about all of the rest, for sure! I’ve been wanting all of these for awhile now.

Book Outlet:

IMG_1447

I really didn’t need all of these books, but this was when my addiction to buying books demanded me to buy them! All between $0.79-$3.99 except the last book on the list and you’ll see why.

Charm and Strange by Stephanie Kuehn
A Tangle of Knots by Lisa Graff
The Dark Between by Sonia Gensler
Beyond by Graham McNamee
Boy2Girl by Terence Blacker
Rot and Ruin by Jonathan Maberry
Blank Confession by Pete Hautman
Don’t Expect Magic by Kathy McCullough
The Serial Killer Whisper by Pete Earley
Jane Eyre (ArtFolds) by Charlotte Bronte

A Tangle of Knots I got mostly because the cover is so beautiful, LOL! It does sound like a really good book though. Every time I go on Book Outlet I took at the Rot & Ruin series and finally decided to break down and buy the first book. I am so stoked about the Jane Eyre book, because once read and folded it’ll look like the below! It was $7.99.

22544712

The below four are also from Book Outlet. I had multiple purchases this month, ahh!

IMG_1463A Darker Shade final for Irene

The Game of Triumphs by Laura Powell
The Forsaken by Lisa M. Stasse
The Walls Around Us by Nova Ren Suma
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

I was so excited that I got The Walls Around Us for $3.99! I have an ARC, but a hardcover for $3.99 is hard to pass up! I am also excited about the other two as well. A Darker Shade of Magic (not pictured, because it hasn’t arrived yet) was on sale on Book Outlet for $7.49! I’ve been dying to read this book, but it’s always almost $20 EVERYWHERE! So I had to get it when I seen they had limited stock on Book Outlet. So excited!

IMG_1448

I also got the Secret Garden by Johanna Basford from Target. There is another picture of the Jane Eyre book. I am really excited about the Secret Garden coloring book. I’ve been wanting to get it for awhile now, so I couldn’t pass it up when I seen it at Target. I have yet to color any of the pages though, lol. It’s almost too pretty to color, haha.

Thrift Stores:

The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
You Are One-Third Daffodil by Tom Nuttall
Of Bees and Mist by Erick Setiawan
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling
Lisey’s Story by Stephen King

I went to Goodwill a few times this month and I found these books. Some were on my TBR and some just sounded really good. I found Archenemy, which is the third book in the Looking Glass Wars series. I decided to get it, but I still need to read the second book. I couldn’t pass it up though for $2. I was so excited to find Eragon. L.A. Candy was actually signed by the author, which is cool. I don’t own any of the HP books, but I seen the first book hardcover at Goodwill and got it.

The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
The Martian by Andy Weir

Of course I couldn’t go without getting more e-books. I swear I am obsessed! Some of these were free or on sale. I am so stoked that I was able to get The Iron Knight for $1.99. I got all the e-books in the Iron Frey series throughout the last month and a half on sale from $0.99-$2.99! Pretty much all of these I got on sale for $1.99! AHHH! So excited! I’ve been off and on if I want to read The Girl on the Train and Ready Player One, but I couldn’t pass up $1.99.

So that’s my huge August book haul! As you can see, I went pretty overboard this month! Total between the books in this post and my e-book post earlier this month, it’s 68 books! I don’t know how it happened, but it did. LOL! I am really happy with all these books though and the fact that I got them all for SO cheap! My most expensive ones were the ones from Amazon and those I used a gift card, so it wasn’t my money LOL 😛

What new books did you get this month? Link me up to your book haul posts if you have any! Stay tuned for my August wrap up post. That’ll be coming soon! I am off to go read for awhile. Goodnight!

Mosquitoland by David Arnold
3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS.

“You spend your life roaming the hillsides, scouring the four corners of the earth, searching desperately for just one person to fucking get you. And I’m thinking, if you can find that, you’ve found home.”

Goodreads Description: After the sudden collapse of her family, Mim Malone is dragged from her home in northern Ohio to the “wastelands” of Mississippi, where she lives in a medicated milieu with her dad and new stepmom. Before the dust has a chance to settle, she learns her mother is sick back in Cleveland. So she ditches her new life and hops aboard a northbound Greyhound bus to her real home and her real mother, meeting a quirky cast of fellow travelers along the way. But when her thousand-mile journey takes a few turns she could never see coming, Mim must confront her own demons, redefining her notions of love, loyalty, and what it means to be sane.

Honestly, I don’t really know how to write my thoughts on this book. Not because I didn’t like it, because I did like it. I really enjoyed it. I guess because I don’t know why I didn’t like it. Shouldn’t that mean I loved it then? I know I didn’t love it though. I’ve been really wanting to read this book and was excited when I seen that the library had the audiobook available. I decided to check it out and the audiobook version was really good. I really enjoyed the narrator.

The story kind of started off really slow for me and there were a few times that I was bored with what was going on. I love road trip books, because I am a sucker for a good road trip. I just wasn’t blown away with it and I know that a lot of people were. The cast of characters were great and I really liked Mim’s adventures with Walter and Beck. I am so glad she met them along the way. Walter and Beck were amazing characters and by the end of the trip, the three of them had so much love for each other. I also think that Mim discovered so much about herself, family, and life. I know I will definitely be thinking about them a lot and wondering what is going on with Beck and Walter.

Why wasn’t I blown away? I honestly have no clue! I really did enjoy this book though. This is kind of a lame review, because I really can’t pin point what I didn’t like about this book. I just know after I finished the book, I wasn’t like “OMG THIS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER”. I felt like it was a really good book, but I didn’t get any other feelings aside from that.

I do recommend this book, because honestly, I think it’s just me. I think a lot of you will really love this book. This month has been crazy as far as books, because almost every single book I read and listened to weren’t that amazing to me when so many others loved them. 😦

“I wish wishing were enough, but it’s not. Sometimes you need a thing.”

Have you read Mosquitoland? If so, what did you think about it?

I am excited that I can finally do my August book haul post, because I got the majority of the books I ordered yesterday! It was a nice surprise, since they weren’t supposed to be here until Friday. Only one of them will not be here in time, but that’s okay! Look out for that sometime this weekend. Here are some recent posts that I’ve done and then I need to get to work!

Hi 🙂

The week seems to be going by pretty quickly. I’ve been pretty tired this week. Trying to go to sleep at a decent time has been a complete fail over the last few months. Sigh. Also found out some not so good news yesterday, so that sucks. BUT, I always try to stay positive about everything, so I am not too worried about things. Anyway though! I decided to do a WWW post, because it’s been a little while since I’ve done one.

Currently Reading:

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
Mosquitoland by David Arnold

The Knife of Never Letting Go is such a strange book, but I am really enjoying it. I am really excited to continue to read it later today! You know, because being adult can get in the way of reading a lot of the time. I’m about 70% finished with the Mosquitoland audiobook. The audiobook is good, it has a good narrator. The story itself is alright. I’m not blown away with it like everyone seems to be. I swear to you though, something must be wrong with me. Because most of the books I’ve been reading haven’t been blowing me away lately! Sigh.

Recently Finished:

2300940218798983

Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen – Review.
The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh – Review.

Remember how I just said that books lately haven’t been blowing me away? Here are two more examples! I did enjoy these books overall as a whole, but honestly, not as much as I would have hoped. And certainly not as much as so many others have loved and raved about these books. Linked above are my reviews for both.

Reading Next:

2595360316160797

Shattered Blue by Lauren Bird Horowitz
The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith

I will definitely be getting to Shattered Blue next as it is a Netgalley book that I have to read and review. I tried starting it, but I was feeling slumpish and decided to put it aside. It sounds like a really good book though, so I am looking forward to it. My next audiobook may be The Cuckoo’s Calling. It sounds like a really good book, so I may give it a chance.

Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think about them? What are you currently reading? Finished reading? Reading next?

🙂

I am honestly pretty overwhelmed with the amount of books that I want to read that I own. Lately, I’ve been staring at my bookcases and my Kindle and I just look away. There are so many and I bought so many this month. I don’t want to say it’s making reading less fun, but in a way it kind of is. Something I love to do shouldn’t feel so overwhelming, you know? I think next month I am going to try to chill with the buying books and plus, I kind of have to with how things are going right now in other parts of my life.

Anyway, I’ve been slowly working on my August wrap up post and my August book haul post. I am currently waiting for some books, but I don’t think they will all be here before August ends. I know the majority of them will be Friday. The other four I’m not sure about. I have to get off here and get to work though. I hope you all have an awesome day! ❤

Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen
3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS.

“It was unrealistic to expect to be constantly in the happiest place. In real life, you’re lucky just to be always somewhere nearby.”

Goodreads Description: Peyton, Sydney’s charismatic older brother, has always been the star of the family, receiving the lion’s share of their parents’ attention and—lately—concern. When Peyton’s increasingly reckless behavior culminates in an accident, a drunk driving conviction, and a jail sentence, Sydney is cast adrift, searching for her place in the family and the world. When everyone else is so worried about Peyton, is she the only one concerned about the victim of the accident? Enter the Chathams, a warm, chaotic family who run a pizza parlor, play bluegrass on weekends, and pitch in to care for their mother, who has multiple sclerosis. Here Sydney experiences unquestioning acceptance. And here she meets Mac, gentle, watchful, and protective, who makes Sydney feel seen, really seen, for the first time.

I first want to start off by saying this was my first Sarah Dessen read, so I really had no idea what to expect from her. I’ve noticed that so many people really love her books. I was so on the fence about what the rating for this book should be. I finally settled on a 3.5 stars. It took awhile for me to really get into it. It started off really slow for me in the beginning, but slowly started to get better and more enjoyable.

I liked Dessen’s writing style and how she wrote the conversations between the characters. I thought that was so well done and I really enjoyed that. The storyline was good and I liked the idea behind it. I felt like it could have been a little better though. Something that really bothered me a lot was Sydney’s mom. I wanted to strangle her throughout the entire book. She seemed kind of crazy and she would not give Sydney the time of day or allow her to even get a word out of her mouth! It was SUPER annoying and the fact that the dad just sat there and didn’t speak up was just as bad. I did not like Sydney’s parents AT ALL!

Ames was such a creepy character and I hated the scenes that he was involved in. He rubbed me the wrong way from the very beginning. Honestly, I think my huge hatred for Ames and Sydney’s mom is what made me not really like the book as much as I would have. They just irked me and annoyed me so much! I really enjoyed Sydney and I was so glad for that! I swear I’ve been hating main characters lately, lol! I felt so bad for her throughout the book and I am so glad she had her friends Layla and Mac there for her. Layla and Mac were such awesome friends and Mac, oh Mac…total book crush! He can bring me pizza any day! I don’t think Sydney would have gotten through everything without them. I also ended up really liking Peyton as the story went on.

Overall, I did enjoy the book and glad I gave it a chance. My kind of low rating is mostly because some of the characters were just way too much for me and made it not as enjoyable as it could have been. I also really wanted more from the ending, but I can understand why it ended the way that it did. I think I will definitely give some of Sarah’s other books a chance.

“The future was one thing that could never be broken, because it had not yet had the chance to be anything.”

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think? Have you read any other Dessen books? Let me know what some of your favorites are and that you think I should check out!

I am off to work! I hope you all have an awesome day! 🙂

Thoughts: The Wrath and the Dawn.

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
3 OUT OF 5 STARS.

“I do know enough to realize you cannot control the actions of others. You can only control what you do with yourself afterwards.”

Goodreads Description: In a land ruled by a murderous boy-king, each dawn brings heartache to a new family. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, is a monster. Each night he takes a new bride only to have a silk cord wrapped around her throat come morning. When sixteen-year-old Shahrzad’s dearest friend falls victim to Khalid, Shahrzad vows vengeance and volunteers to be his next bride. Shahrzad is determined not only to stay alive, but to end the caliph’s reign of terror once and for all. Night after night, Shahrzad beguiles Khalid, weaving stories that enchant, ensuring her survival, though she knows each dawn could be her last. But something she never expected begins to happen: Khalid is nothing like what she’d imagined him to be. This monster is a boy with a tormented heart. Incredibly, Shahrzad finds herself falling in love. How is this possible? It’s an unforgivable betrayal. Still, Shahrzad has come to understand all is not as it seems in this palace of marble and stone. She resolves to uncover whatever secrets lurk and, despite her love, be ready to take Khalid’s life as retribution for the many lives he’s stolen. Can their love survive this world of stories and secrets?

FYI: There is a glossary at the very back of the book. Had I known this when I first read the book, it probably would be been very helpful. I didn’t find it until I was almost done! Onto my thoughts!

There is so much hype for this book and so many people love this book so much. I, however, am not one of those people. Sad, I know! The idea was amazing, the description (and beautiful cover) instantly drew me to it. I needed to read this book, because when I looked up the story that it was inspired by, it sounded awesome! Renee’s writing style was nice.

The story itself wasn’t exactly what I expected. I figured there would be some killing of some wives. You know, like the original story…maybe even just one or two would have been nice. That sounds horrible, but when you just finished reading a book about serial killers before starting this one, you are on that level. There wasn’t any like you would expect from knowing the story it’s a retelling of.

The names. The names started to bother me as soon as I started reading. All of these characters had like four names! Also, they are not the easiest to pronounce. Trying to pronounce four names per character got annoying. I started calling them by letters. Or just skipping over even trying to say them. FYI: remember that glossary I told you about? Remember that as you’re reading, so you can flip through and get the meanings on some them and other things!

Quick thought on some of the characters. Tariq…hated him. He was pretty annoying throughout the book, especially toward the ending. Khalid…loved him. I really started to fall in love with him toward the ending. I think he meant well and so misunderstood. Shahrzad…love/hate her. There were some times that she annoyed me, but other times she was a really cool character. Jalal…loved him. I instantly fell in love with Jalal and I wanted more about him. There are so many characters in this book and they are throw at you at once and that (plus the fact they all have like 3-4 name) can get confusing. There’s a good cast of characters though. A mix of good and bad.

Overall, I was pretty bored the majority of the time, sadly. I wanted to love this book so much. Everyone is loving and raving about it. I’m the outcast when it comes to this book. It wasn’t horrible, but it could have been so much better. There wasn’t enough action. Most of the time it felt like nothing was really going on. It took so long to find out the reason why the wives had to die and that was bugging me. AND DAMMIT, I WANTED TO HEAR ALADDIN’S STORY! I curse Khalid for always say “no” when Shahrzad asked if he wanted to hear it.

The ending started to get better and more enjoyable. I was excited for a little while. The ending also left me so confused and annoyed. I have a like/hate for this book. Sigh. So many unanswered questions. Will I read the next book? Probably, only because the ending of this one was so confusing and it’s going to bother me until I find out why it ended the way that it did. Do I recommend it? Yes, I do. I think there are a lot of you that will love this book. I mean, it wasn’t a completely horrible book, just could have been better!

“Some things exist in our lives for but a brief moment. And we must let them go on to light another sky.” Have you read this book? If so, what did you think? Or better yet, did anything bother you about it? Let me know!

Check out my mid-year book freak out tag over here. The year is over halfway over and that’s insane. You can see some of the books I read throughout the first half of the year and loved/hated and books I am excited for! I hope you have a great rest of the weekend! Bye!

10: Book that made you cry.

I have bought a lot of beautiful books this year, but Dream a Little Dream is definitely one of my favorite covers! I really need to read it. I’ve had it since it was released in April, oops!

15: What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

ALL THE BOOKS!? Okay, so this is a tough question. I have so many books that I want to read by the end of the year, haha. I bought SO many books this year so far, OOPS! I’m scared to even count. Here are some of the ones that I really hope to get to. I choose these because some have been on my TBR the longest and I’m missing out!

11235712105763651345578220821111

Cinder by Marissa Meyer.
The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken.
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi.
The Young Elites by Marie Lu.

Amy (Book Enthral) and I decided that when she reads I Hunt Killers, I will read The Darkest Minds. I believe I will be reading Cinder in October with Josie (Josie’s Book Corner). So these two should be exciting! I’ve been wanting to read Shatter Me and The Young Elites for awhile now too!

This was a really fun tag to do and I really hope that everyone will do this tag too! I would love to see your answers, so if you decide to do it then link me to your posts! 🙂 I have a pretty busy weekend with tons of things to do and an entire apartment to clean, sigh. I hope you have a great weekend! ❤

FRIDAY FINDS showcases the books you ‘found’ and added to your To Be Read (TBR) list… whether you found them online, or in a bookstore, or in the library — wherever! (they aren’t necessarily books you purchased). Hosted by A Daily Rhythm.

Hi 🙂

Super stoked that it’s Friday! The boyfriend started a new job this week, so he’ll be starting to have weekends off work with me and this week is the first weekend! I failed at getting much of anything read (or listened to) this week. I was able to add some books to my TBR though! You can see more of my TBR list over on my Goodreads account over here and feel free to add me as a friend!

Am I Normal Yet? by Holly Bourne
Damage Done by Amanda Panitch
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes by Caitlin Doughty
The Straw King by Danielle Paige
Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas

Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke
A History of Glitter and Blood by Hannah Moskowitz
Ash & Bramble by Sarah Prineas
The Committed by Justin Mermelstein
The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman

These all sound exciting! I’m actually really excited that The Straw King (another Dorothy Must Die novella) will be released soon. The Scarecrow is actually one of the characters that I was more interested in reading about. After the complete fail of Heart of Tin, I am hoping The Straw King is better! A few of these I put on my main TBR list. I created a new shelf over on Goodreads for the books that I definitely see myself reading and the ones that I want to read, but not in any rush to do so. Hopefully that’ll keep me a little more organized since I have so many books on my TBR.

What books did you add to your TBR this week? Let me know in the comments and link me to your posts if you’ve done one!

Hopefully I’ll have my August book haul post up in the next week or so. I’m just waiting on some books to come in the mail! Check out some of my other posts from this week linked below.

Thoughts: Vivian Apple at the End of the World.

20256737

Vivian Apple at the End of the World by Katie Coyle
3 out of 5 stars.

Goodreads Description: Seventeen-year-old Vivian Apple never believed in the evangelical Church of America, unlike her recently devout parents. But when Vivian returns home the night after the supposed “Rapture,” all that’s left of her parents are two holes in the roof. Suddenly, she doesn’t know who or what to believe. With her best friend Harp and a mysterious ally, Peter, Vivian embarks on a desperate cross-country roadtrip through a paranoid and panic-stricken America to find answers. Because at the end of the world, Vivan Apple isn’t looking for a savior. She’s looking for the truth.

I was instantly drawn to this book, because I really loved the book cover and the description pulled me in. A book about the rapture? Sounds good to me! This book was a really slow start for me and throughout the entire book I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. There were times where I really liked it and other times where I didn’t know if I wanted to finish it.

Not too much was really going on in the book and I wanted more. I liked the road trip aspect of it, but I felt like nothing was really happening. There were a few interesting things though and a few surprises at the end. I loved the idea behind the story, but I think it could have been so much better. I started to enjoy it more toward the end when questions were starting to get answered.

Vivian, Harp, and Peter were the main characters in this book. They set out on a trip together to try to figure out what was going on after the rapture. I’m not exactly sure how I feel about them. There were times that I liked them, but there were a lot of times where I didn’t. I couldn’t really connect with them. I did like Peter more than everyone else though. He was an interesting character and I feel like he’s hiding more. Harp was kind of annoying and Vivian had her moments. I felt bad for her throughout the book.

Random Love: I liked that there were Doctor Who references in the book! 😛

There is a sequel to this book and I will eventually want to read it. This book left me curious enough to want to see where this story goes and there are still a lot of unanswered questions. Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it?

Weekend Things & Mini Review.

IMG_0944

Hi! 🙂

I went to stay on the beach over the weekend with my older sister, mom, and aunt. It was a pretty fun time, except it rained pretty much the entire weekend. That put a downer on certain things. We still made it a fun time. We walked around the beach when it wasn’t so rainy. We got drinks at a bar on Friday night.

IMG_0950

On Saturday we walked around the beach some more. Went shopping for new clothes and shoes. I left with a lot of stuff for $28! There’s a super cheap clothing store that was so much great stuff near us. I’m hoping to go again soon! Once the boyfriend and younger sister got off work, we all went to get lunch and drinks together for my mom’s birthday.

IMG_0991

Saturday night we just went out to another bar and that was fun. We decided to leave the beach Sunday morning, because it was just so rainy and it was pouring rain when we woke up. It sucked that it got rained out, but we still tried to have a lot of fun. I was glad to get home though. I was missing my furbabies!

MINI REVIEW:

18050728

Blood of My Blood by Barry Lyga
5 out of 5 stars.

“Pain means you’re alive. Pain is good. Pain is life.”

I finished Blood of My Blood over the weekend and guys, it was a perfect ending to the series! I couldn’t be happier with the way that it ended! I love this series so much! I am so sad that it’s over. Barry Lyga did such an amazing job with this series and with all the characters in the book. There were so many “OMG” moments and I cried a few times! This series means everything to me and probably my number one favorite now! The entire series is full of shocks, surprises, twists, and just plain crazy! It will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this series as I’m sure you all know by now! I can’t wait to buy the physical copies, so I can reread the series! I was able to get my sister to start I Hunt Killers on Saturday and she’s already on Blood of My Blood! She’s addicted! 🙂

1879898320256737

I started The Wrath and the Dawn over the weekend too. I read about 30 pages when I was at the beach. All the names and the fact that so many were thrown at you and every character’s name has like 3-4 names to it has been driving me crazy and confusing me. I’m now a little over 100 pages in and I’m still not sold on this book. It’s not horrible, but it’s not exciting or anything like that either. I’m still going to keep reading though. I’m hoping it’ll get better soon and my feelings will change.

I think that’ll be all for this post! Hopefully I’ll be able to get a couple reviews up on my blog soon. I should be finished with Vivian Apple at the End of the World today, so I’ll be doing a review of that. I’m hoping to finish The Wrath by the end of this week, so I’ll have a review for that too. Sorry I’ve been slacking with those this month. I’ve been slumpish this month with both reading physical books and listening to audiobooks. 😦 In case you missed it, I did a TBR Book Tag and you can check it out here.

I hope you have an awesome day! Bye!

TBR Book Tag.

tbrtag

Hi 🙂

I was tagged by the totally awesome Joey over at Thoughts and Afterthoughts to do the TBR Book Tag! I’ll just get right into it!

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
+ Honestly, I don’t really keep track of it too much. I have all my books in a jar and then I have Goodreads. I have the standard “to-read” shelf and then I made another shelf with the books I really want to read for sure. Honestly though, I haven’t been using that shelf too much though lol. I’m always having to go through my books to move them later. I do have an Amazon wishlist created of the books that I really want to buy. That’s basically it though. I don’t really pay too much attention to keeping track other than these things. My TBR is constantly growing, so I don’t think I will ever be able to fully keep track.

Is your TBR mostly print or eBook?
+ Well, I don’t really know how to answer this lol! My TBR is HUGE and I don’t even own half of them! BUT…as far as the books I own that I want to read, it’s almost close to both. I have a little over 200 e-books and maybe a little less than 200 physical books.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

+ Choosing what to read next is so hard, to be honest! I have a book jar that I randomly choose books to read from sometimes. Or if I’m joining a read-along, book club, or read a book with someone then it’s usually those. I suck at deciding what I want to read next. I just own so many books and it’s so hard to pick, lol.

1123571210576365A book that’s been on your TBR list the longest?
+ MOST OF THEM? 😛 I think I would have to go with Cinder and The Darkest Minds. I’ve had those books on my list for a couple years now, lol. I think I will try to get to them this year though. Haha.

23592235A book you recently added to your TBR?
+ The other day I recently added:
Am I Normal Yet? by Holly Bourne.
It sounds like a really good book, so I am really looking forward to read that one.

17234658A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover?
+ I usually choose books to even consider adding to my TBR based on the book covers, lol. I am a sucker for a good book cover, so 9 out of 10 times I will read the description if I like the book cover. So sad, I know. I’m probably missing out on some amazing books doing this! A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray was definitely one of those books that I bought right away, because I love the cover. More proof of that is the fact that I still haven’t read it yet and I’ve had it for awhile now. lol.

14112002A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading.
+ Awww…this is a mean question! A few weeks ago I actually went through my TBR list on Goodreads and deleted about 100 books that I probably will never read. Of course I can’t remember any of those, so let’s go back to Goodreads and look at my list again. I guess I will go with Thrall by Jennifer Quintenz. I’ve had this e-book for a few years and I never read it and I don’t think I will be reading it anytime soon. I mean, it sounds like a good book…but to be honest, I have so many other books I rather read.

23719270An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for?
+ OMG, I have so many. I will go with Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman though. I really can’t wait to get this book! I pre-ordered and can’t wait for my book to come in. I can’t wait to read it and hopefully fall madly in love with it, of course! Also, look how amazing the book cover is. I can’t wait to have this beauty in my possession. Super stoked! GIVE ME!!

936158914061955A book on your TBR that everyone has read but you?
+ It seems like everyone has read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, except for me! I actually own the book too. Sigh. I will definitely be getting to this at some point this year though!

A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read?
+ I am dying to read Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo. I need to know what is happening next in the series! Shadow and Bone was so good, so I am excited and dying to read this one!

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you?
+ No one has really recommended many books to me. So tell me what book (or books) you think I should be reading! GO GO GO!

How many books are on your Goodreads TBR shelf?
+ With both of my to-read shelves combined over on Goodreads, I have 548 books on my TBR shelves! I also have a ton of books that I haven’t even added to Goodreads though. So maybe close to 600 books total. YIKES! So, has anyone figured out how to stop time yet? 😛

This was a pretty awesome tag and I had fun doing it. I tag…

Maren @ The Worn Bookmark
Shelbie @ Lu-Lu’s Rants & Reads
Josie @ Josie’s Book Corner
Emily @ The Diary of a Bibliophile
Alina @ Radiant Reads
Nicole @ Awayinneverland
Amy @ Book Enthral
Aneta @ Inspire Script
Yvonne @ It’s All About Books

If you weren’t tagged, I still want you to do this tag! It was a lot of fun and I want to see all of your answers! So please feel free to link me to your posts! 🙂 I am off to get some reading done! I hope you all have an awesome rest of the weekend! Bye! ❤

Hi 🙂

It’s Friday again! I am so excited that it’s Friday, because I will be heading to the beach after work for the weekend! We are spending the weekend on the beach for my mom’s birthday! She was able to get a room at one of the hotels for FREE! It’s gonna be so nice waking up to seeing the beach! I plan to try to get some good sunrise/sunset pictures; it’s a must. Here are some of the books that I added to my TBR. You can see more of my TBR list over on my Goodreads account over here and feel free to add me as a friend!

Far From You by Tess Sharpe
Divine Scream by Benjamin Kane Ethridge
Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce
Openly Straight by Bill Konigsberg

I am so stoked about Felicia Day’s book! I really can’t wait to read it! I am pretty freaking excited about all of these other ones too. I am in love with the book cover for Divine Scream and The Thing About Jellyfish. These all sound like really awesome reads, so I can’t wait to get to them! What books did you add to your TBR this week? Let me know in the comments and link me to your posts if you’ve done one! 🙂

I am planning to take The Wrath and the Dawn along with Dean Winchester to the beach with me this weekend! I am hoping to finally start the book this weekend. I also miss my Supernatural boys, so I will be taking Dean with me. I love them all, but he’s my favorite. I am really excited to finally start The Wrath and the Dawn soon. So many people in the read-along have already started or finished the book and they are so excited and loving it and I am feeling so left out right now, lol! I want to be in love with it too!! Let’s hope I can get some reading done this weekend!

Say “HI” to Dean! & Say “HI” to Willowdean!

IMG_0923IMG_0916

I also got this cute Dumplin’ pin yesterday in the mail! I have been waiting for it and I am glad it’s finally here. It’s so cute! I can’t wait for the book! It’s one of the books that I am most excited about this year. Maybe I’ll take her to the beach with me too (maybe my cutout of her and not the pin though, I don’t want to lose it!). #dumplinpose everywhere! I also just realized that I have my DEAN bookmark and my WillowDEAN pin. 😛 everything is just meant to be!

I apologize for the lack of reviews this month so far. I have honestly not really finished a book that wasn’t a novella or that wasn’t the first book in a series. I also listened to one audiobook this entire month, which is kind of sad since I probably would have had at least five done by now. I will be doing a review on The Wrath and the Dawn though; I just have to read it! I may be a little absent this weekend due to being away at the beach for the weekend. Add me on Instagram, because I am sure I’ll be posting lots of pictures; heyyitsashley.

I hope you all have a great Friday! Bye!

WWW Wednesdays #15.

www

WWW Wednesday is a weekly MEME hosted by Taking on a World of Words. Simply answer the following questions. 🙂

 The three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

*Goodreads linked below.

Hi 🙂

This WWW may look a little similar to last week’s, because nothing really has changed other than the books moving into different spots. 😛 I guess that’s a good thing though, because it means I’m reading! I apologize in advance! I’ll write new things about the books though, so it’s not completely the same.

Currently Reading:

180507282

Blood of My Blood by Barry Lyga
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

I am still working through the Order of the Phoenix, but it will be finished today! I know I said before that I haven’t really been in the mood for audiobooks this month, so it’s been taking me awhile to finish this one! I am actually enjoying this one so much more than I did the Goblet of FireBlood of My Blood has been everything I hoped it would be so far. I am about 40% into the book and I am loving it so much! I probably could have had it finished by now, but I keep delaying it since I don’t want it to end!! I keep stopping after every chapter to do something else, sigh. I will definitely be finishing it within the next day or two though. It’s just so hard to let go of this series! It’s been awhile since I have absolutely fell in love with a series like this. The last one was Penryn & the End of Days, but even then, I don’t even think it has made me feel as much as I Hunt Killers has; super close though!

Recently Finished:

18602341

The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige

The last book I finished was The Wicked Will Rise. I did a super mini-review of it OVER HERE! It was really enjoyable and I am excited that I finally got around to reading it. New characters introduced, more adventure, and chaos. It did leave me a little confused toward the end, but overall it was a really good read. I am looking forward to the next book to get answers to my unanswered questions!

Reading Next:

1879898325953603

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
Shattered Blue by Lauren Bird Horowitz

Finally going to pick up The Wrath and the Dawn for the read-along. I was going to do it after The Wicked, but then I decided to go with Blood of My Blood because I knew I would fly through that one. I am really stoked to read it, because I’ve heard so many good things about it and it’s been sitting on my bookshelf for way too long now! I was approved for Shattered Blue on Netgalley, so I may try to get that one read after The Wrath. I do have Siege and Storm begging me to pick it up though, so we will see what happens!

Check out my e-book haul over here from yesterday! I hope you guys have a terrific day! Bye! ❤

E-Book Haul.

Untitled

Hi 🙂

So it’s only the 11th day in the month and I went a little overboard already with e-books! There were a lot of good deals going on and I had to take advantage. There were also tons of free books and I couldn’t say no to free. Today I bring you the e-books that I have gotten so far this month and I am sure there will be more. It’s just so hard to pass up on good deals, especially for popular books that get ridiculously reduced pricing for a day or week! Also, It might not help that Shelbie and I are texting each other every single day when we find a good deal on e-books, lmao.

BATCH ONE:

8951449134024474410131241693410964

18149630181072131228720917285330868561218741152

The Hollowland by Amanda Hocking
UnEnchanted by Chanda Hahn
Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer
Consequences by Aleatha Romig
The Outlander Series (books 1-7) by Diana Gabaldon
Peter: The Untold True Story by Christopher Mechling
Dance in Shadow and Whisper by Sarah Godfrey
Wool by Hugh Howey
The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand
The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

I got some really awesome deals on a lot of these. Like the Outlander books 1-7 was a bundle for one day and it was only $1.99 for them all and the original price for them as the bundle is about $60! The Last Time We Say Goodbye I got for $1.99 and I believe that is the price until August 18th. Anna and the French Kiss I got for $2.99 over the weekend, such an awesome deal! I’m excited that I got The Iron Queen for $2.99, because now I have books 1-3! The boyfriend chose Into the Wild, but I may read it as well. The others were at cheaper prices and/or free.

BATCH TWO:

1604707823295974249033552245722313529646

136318372339769817372641109416241613311217416060

The Faerie Guardian by Rachel Morgan
Brew by David Estes
Embers by Karen Ann Hopkins
Nefertiti’s Heart by A.W. Exley
Fearless by Tawdra Kandle
Whispers in Autumn by Trisha Leigh
Unseen by Stephanie Erickson
The Bane by Keary Taylor
Ethereal by Addison Moore
Fields of Elysium by A.B. Whelan
Tortured Dreams by Hadena James

These were all mostly free books with a couple being $0.99-$1.99. They all sound like such great books, so I couldn’t pass up free! A lot of these were on my TBR, so it was cool finding them for free on Amazon! You may still find a lot of these free or at reduced prices right now. The majority of these I got over the last week and a half. You should definitely check it out, because you never know! 🙂

As you can see, I went a little bit crazy this month with e-books and the month isn’t even half over yet! I need to chill out with it, but it’s just so hard to pass up on good deals. Especially the ones that you know will go up in price, like some of the ones from “batch one”. I found that using the Epic Reads website really helps with finding awesome YA books at $1.99. They have a section dedicated to e-book deals and every month the books change! Like right now, you can get Asylum by Madeleine Roux for $1.99 among so many others too! Here is their e-book deals page!

Do you know of any awesome e-book deals or free e-books going on right now? If so, let me know in the comments below!

I think that’s all for this post! You can check out my last post linked over here in case you missed it! I hope you all have a great day! Bye! ❤

the weekend & other things.

Hi 🙂

I know I haven’t updated since Friday. I’ve been sick and still sick, sadly. I also really haven’t had any ideas what type of posts to do! So if you have any ideas of what you would like to see, let me know!

Basically, this weekend I took a million naps in the hopes to kick this cold, but that didn’t work out that well. I woke up today feeling even worse than I did all weekend. I’ve been taking medicine like crazy, but I don’t know if it’s really working. I did manage to finish The Wicked Will Rise last night. I’ll do a small (and by small I mean a few sentences) review of it in this post. I don’t like really doing reviews on books in a series other than the first book, but only because I am scared I might give something away!

The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige
4 out of 5 stars.
“Faith: everyone knows it’s something you’re supposed to have, but it’s harder to put that into practice when your senses are telling you all hope is lost.”

Shelbie and I read this book together. which was exciting. Once she finishes it, we’ll hopefully be able to talk about it! Say “HI” to little Percy! Okay, so this book was really enjoyable and it was definitely better than the first book (Dorothy Must Die). There were a couple times when I wasn’t too into it, but not too many. Toward the end of the book I started to get annoyed with the book. I felt like it was starting over again, because of certain things that happened. That wasn’t really the case when it ended, but the ending left me a little confused. I am looking forward to the next book to see how it all comes together.

IMG_0858IMG_0866

My cousin came over on Saturday to pick up Bella. I was watching her for two weeks while her and her family were on vacation. We went to get frozen yogurt, we always do that when she comes here. I got toasted marshmallow. I’m sure it tasted amazing, except I’m sick, so I couldn’t really taste anything that well, sigh. She also sent me a package (and it happened to get here the day she came) and it was of these 12 little books about The Doctor! 12 Doctors and a story about each one! There is a story written by all different authors. There is even a story written by Patrick Ness! 🙂 It also comes with 12 postcards and I plan to frame them an hang them in my living room. LOVELOVELOVE IT!

Bella, Dax, and ColbyJack.

IMG_0636

I am currently reading Blood of My Blood (final book in the I Hunt Killers (Jasper Dent) series) and it’s so bittersweet. I am excited to see how the series ends, but I am sad that it is ending! I know I’ve gone on and on about this series in my blog over the last month and a half (SORRY!), but it’s so good! Barry Lyga is so amazing and has moved to the top of my list of favorite authors!

I have listened to zero audiobooks this month, which is so strange for me. I usually have at least a few of them finished by now! I haven’t been in the mood for them at all, which is sad. I have to finish The Order of the Phoenix this week though, because it’s due back in a few days. I wouldn’t really say I am in a reading slump, because I am enjoying all the books I am physically reading. Is there such thing as a listening slump? 😛

I think tomorrow I will do an e-book book haul, because I got so many e-books so far this month. I will leave you with a funny true story…

He’s so cute, so it’s okay. 😛

I hope you all have an awesome Monday! Bye! ❤

Friday Finds #26.

Untitled

FRIDAY FINDS showcases the books you ‘found’ and added to your To Be Read (TBR) list… whether you found them online, or in a bookstore, or in the library — wherever! (they aren’t necessarily books you purchased). Hosted by A Daily Rhythm.

*All linked to Goodreads*

Hi 🙂

I hope everyone has had a good week so far! It went by pretty quickly and I am super stoked for the weekend, because that’s when I get most of my reading in! Here are some of the books that I added to my TBR. You can see more of my TBR list over on my Goodreads account over here and feel free to add me as a friend!

23295974225572762448027623085217345314

Brew by David Estes
The Alex Crow by Andrew Smith
The Versions of Us by Laura Barnett
City of Saints and Madmen by Jeff vandermeer
Cracked by Eliza Crewe

206407551083878721518344219369376457229

The Book of Ivy by Amy Engel
Pawn by Aimee Carter
The Stars Turned Away by Lisa Maxwell
Blackhearts by Nicole Castroman
The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancey

These all sound pretty amazing and I’m really excited to eventually read them one day, lol! I add so many books to my TBR that I have no clue when I ever will, sadly. 😦 It’s nice adding them though and knowing that I will never run out of things to read! I did get the e-book Brew for free last Friday, so that’s cool. What books did you add to your TBR this week? Let me know in the comments and link me to your posts if you’ve done one! 🙂

In other news, I made a new book jar. I saw these cute jars at Target yesterday and decided to get one since it was only $3. I took all my little papers from my bowl that I was using and added them to the jar. I also bought the Insurgent DVD, because my mom really wanted to see the movie. Plus, I had to have it, duh! She was excited that I got it. I had her read the books, so she loves them lol.

IMG_0804IMG_0798

I may have bought a book or two, but I’ll save those for another time. 😛 I’ll probably do a mid-month book haul depending on if I get more books or not. I’m really trying not to though. I have a lot of preorders coming soonish; most being next month, so I need to save my money. I did get quite a few e-books this month though, but they were all free so far besides maybe one or two.

Last month I did pretty good with doing more reviews, so I need to get back into the swing of things this month. I don’t see a need to review the novellas and that’s all I’ve finished so far this month. But hopefully in the next week or two I’ll have some. I haven’t even been listening to any audiobooks and I usually review those too. I haven’t really been in the mood for them so far this month.

I guess that’s all! I hope you have a wonderful Friday! And if you still want to read what I have to say, then you can always check out some of my other recent posts. I’ll even link them for you below to make it easier for you! 😉

Sunshine-Award

Hi! 🙂

I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by the awesome Maren over at The Worn Bookmark. Thank you, Maren! You guys need to go check out her blog, because she always has the best posts and she’s totally the coolest!

I’ll be answering 11 questions that Maren asked me and then nominating some of you and asking 11 questions of my own!

The Questions:

1. Do you have a specific way you arrange your bookshelves?

+ Yes and no, lol. I have two bookcases right now, so one bookcase has the books that I really want to read and the other has books that I may one day read. Although, my favorite shelf is pretty much filled up, so I starting to migrate them over to the other. I usually do it hardcover and then paperbacks and then size. I think once I get my new bookcase, I will be arranging everything different though.

101941572. If you were trapped on a desert island with a book character, who would you choose and why?

+ I choose Mal from Shadow and Bone. He’s my new book crush and I need more time with him. He’s also the best tracker in the world, so I’m pretty sure we would survive being trapped on a desert island.

237346283. What is your most anticipated book release this coming fall?

+ I would probably have to go with Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. I am so stoked for this Simon and Baz story. There are so many other book releases coming this fall though, so I am excited!

4. What is your preferred book format?

+ Ahhh, this is kind of a tough question, because I love them all for all different types of reasons. I really like hardcovers though and I wish they weren’t so much more expensive than paperbacks!

5. If you could meet any living author, who would it be?

+ I would love to meet Barry Lyga. I’m sure you all know why and if you don’t, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to say it for the 28957475 time ( 😛 ) – I am obsessed with the I Hunt Killers (Jasper Dent) series and Barry Lyga is definitely now one of my favorite authors.

1564276. What is your favorite book of all time?

+ Hands down my favorite book of all time would be Psycho by Robert Bloch. The book is so freaking good and I read it in a day! Ahhh…I love it so much.

7. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose?

+ I would love to live in Washington DC. I’ve also always wanted to visit there, so the boyfriend and I are thinking about getting our tickets soonish for January. I was hoping for springtime, but I am down anytime.

8. Where is your favorite place to read?

+ I mostly read in bed, so I guess that would be my favorite place. I like it, because I am constantly moving to different positions while reading when I get uncomfortable, so being in bed it awesome because it’s so big and there’s so much space lol.

9. What is your favorite TV show?

+ Doctor Who, of course! And I could never leave out my boys, so Supernatural is my favorite too. I tell the boyfriend at least a few times a day how much I miss Supernatural. He always has to reassure me that they are coming back. 😛

10. Choose one: Vampires or Werewolves

+ I prefer werewolves over vampires. They just seem so much more cooler.

11. What is your favorite genre?

+ I am really into science fiction/dystopian books. I also love a good mystery/thriller book and fantasy. Can I just choose them all?

My questions for you and nominations:

  1. What book would you like to see turned into a movie?
  2. If you were to choose one book boyfriend/girlfriend, who would you choose?
  3. What is your favorite ice cream toppings?
  4. What are you currently reading?
  5. What do you like to do when you’re not reading?
  6. What was the best book that you read so far this year?
  7. I am always looking for a new TV show to watch, so what is a favorite of yours?
  8. Also, what is your favorite movie?
  9. What is a book everyone loves except you?
  10. Dinosaurs or Sharks? This is a super important question.
  11. What makes you the happiest, other than books of course?

Emily @ The Diary of a Bibliophile
Josie @ Josie’s Book Corner
Nicole @ Awayinneverland
Joey @ Thoughts and Afterthoughts
Amy @ Book Enthral

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Hey 🙂

It’s Wednesday, which means the week is half over. I am excited about that, because I love my weekends! I figured I would do a WWW post since I haven’t done one in awhile. I’ll just jump right into it.

Currently Reading:

IMG_0532218602341

Lucky Day by Barry Lyga
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling
The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige

I am halfway done with the last novella for the Jasper Dent series, which is exciting! So far I am really liking it. I am listening to the Order of the Phoenix audiobook, but I haven’t in a few days. I will definitely finish it this week though. I haven’t exactly started The Wicked Will Rise yet, but I should be hopefully today or tomorrow.

Recently Finished:

173314832082734523507358IMG_0525

Blood Boy by Barry Lyga
Neutral Mask by Barry Lyga
Career Day by Barry Lyga
No Place Like Oz by Danielle Paige
The Witch Must Burn by Danielle Paige
The Wizard Returns by Danielle Paige
Heart of Tin by Danielle Paige

My month of novellas turned out to be four days of novellas, because I finished them all in four days (besides the last one I am reading now). I read all the novellas for the Dorothy Must Die series. They were all pretty good except Heart of Tin. That was torture, to be honest. The Tin Man is annoying, so annoying! He acted like a love sick twelve year old girl the entire book. I also read the Jasper Dent novellas, which were pretty good. It was interesting to read about the other characters, but I will forever love Jasper.

Reading Next:

1879898318050728

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
Blood of My Blood by Barry Lyga

I will definitely be picking up The Wrath and the Dawn after The Wicked Will Rise for the read-along that I am joining. After that will probably be Blood of My Blood. The last book in the Jasper Dent (I Hunt Killers) series. I am so sad to see it end, but I am dying to find out what is going on!!

Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think about them? What are you currently reading? Finished reading? Reading next?

Ten Fairytale Retellings I’ve Read/Want To Read.

Hi 🙂

I really love this TTT topic, because I love retellings! I’ve know I’ve said that a few times in my blog already! I will share five retellings that I have read and five that I want to read.

Five Retellings I Have Read:

1805306016096824image4417016128504

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly
The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor
The Woodcutter by Kate Danley

These were some of my favorites that I have read in the past and recently. The Woodcutter could have been a little better, but it was still enjoyable. The Book of Lost Things is absolutely one of my favorite books ever! I am currently reading the Dorothy Must Die novellas, with one left to go!

Five Retellings I Want To Read:

2439704022639095232995131611360623398606

A Whole New World by Liz Braswell
The Isle of the Lost by Melissa de la Cruz
The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine
Of Beast and Beauty by Stacey Jay
Alice by Christina Henry

I am so excited about every single one of these retellings! They all sound amazing and I really can’t wait to read them all! I may be reading The Isle of the Lost this month. I honestly cannot wait for A Whole New World though. Aladdin is my favorite Disney movie, so I am beyond excited about this retelling!

What are some of your favorite retellings? What retellings are you looking forward to reading? Let me know in the comments and link me to your TTT posts!

I hope you all have an awesome Tuesday! Bye! ❤

Outlander & Pictures.

Hey 🙂

I haven’t updated since Saturday and I really wasn’t going to update again until tomorrow, but I wanted to share this with you because it’s totally awesome!

You can get the e-book version of the first seven books in the Outlander series for Kindle for $1.99 today! That’s ALL seven for $1.99! That’s pretty amazing! CLICK HERE! – I live in the US, so not sure how this works with other places on the cost.

FYI: It’s not a $1.99 each book, it’s $1.99 for ALL THE BOOKS! That’s pretty awesome, right?

I definitely had to one-click buy, because it’s not something to pass up whether you plan to read them now or a long time from now. I own the physical copy of Outlander; they can be pretty intimidating with the length of the books, but I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about them. 🙂

EDIT: LOOKS LIKE THE PRICE JUST JUMPED BACK UP AND THE SALE IS OVER. 😦

517Bx2SBgYL._SX373_BO1,204,203,200_

And while I am here how about a random photo dump of some cute pets and stuff! Everyone likes cats and dogs, right? 😛 FYI: You may have seen these on Instagram if you have me added; if not, add me if you’d like – HEYYITSASHLEY.

One: My loves. My furbabies. ColbyJack & Dax. And Bella is hiding under the blanket.
Two: Bella! I’m dogsitting her and she demands ALL the attention ALL the time, lol.

IMG_0638IMG_0713

I’ve been reading all of the Dorothy Must Die novellas and flying through them. I have one more to read tonight and then Shelbie and I will be starting The Wicked Will Rise and using our Percy Jackson bookmarks (reposting picture in case you didn’t see it), 😛 I’ve also been flying through the Jasper Dent novellas too.

IMG_0578IMG_0550

And other random pictures.
One: My current bookmark. A close up, because it’s cute.
Two: The boyfriend. I actually got him to read for 45 minutes! Really thirty minutes if you count the fact that anytime he heard a noise or our cat did something, he felt the need to stop reading to check it out lmao. AKA: he was finding any excuse to stop.
**He’s reading Blink of an Eye by William S. Cohen. It’s one of the books he picked out.

July Recap.

Untitled

Hey! 🙂

July seriously flew by, you guys! I can’t believe there is only five months left of the year! I am really excited that the first seven months of my blogging experience has been so successful! I honestly went into this thing with one follower, which was my bestie. I’ve met so many awesome friends on here and I am always making new friends and finding new books to read! I am even going into August with almost 300 followers! That’s pretty crazy, because I honestly didn’t think anyone would be interested in what I have to say! I appreciate you all though! Thank you! I wanted to let you all know that.

Now to the recap! I am trying out a new format for this recap post versus what I have done in the past. You can find a full list of these books and the other books I read this year over here. All will be linked to Goodreads below and I will also link to individual blog posts for them if I did one. Toward the end of this post I will include some of my plans for the month of August!

DNF (did not finish) Books:
These are the books I started, but did not end up finishing throughout the month of July.

2196978682351786442769

more than this by patrick ness – I do plan to finish reading at some point this year. I just got distracted with other books and I had borrowed this from the library.
across the universe by beth revis – I got the audiobook from the library. I do not plan to finish that book, because it was so boring.
paper towns by john green – I was really bored, but I may eventually finish the book. I didn’t give it an honest chance, because I only read a little bit over 60 pages.

Physically Read Books:
These are the books that I read by myself (aka not audio) throughout the month of July.

1614334717661416157908332335404710194157

we were liars by e. lockhart – REVIEW. – 2 OUT OF 5 STARS.
As you can see by the star rating, I really didn’t enjoy this book. It was too boring and I didn’t like the characters. The twist at the end was interesting, everything leading up to it wasn’t worth it in my opinion. I know a lot of people loved this book, but it wasn’t for me.

made you up by francesca zappia – REVIEW. – 5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
Made You Up has been one of my favorite reads so far this year! It was perfect and so amazing, just like the book cover! I finished it so quickly and I already want to read it again. I laughed, I cried, I got angry. You will feel every emotion! I highly recommend this book!

game by barry lyga – 5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
OMG, GAME! ❤ Can I just tell you guys how much I love this series and Barry Lyga? (I know I have a million times 😛 ) The Jasper Dent (I Hunt Killers) series has NOT let me down yet! The books just keep getting better and better. This book was amazing! So amazing! I can’t wait to read all the novellas and the final book. Bittersweet though. I don’t want to see it come to an end.

trouble is a friend of mine by stephanie tromly – REVIEW. – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I enjoyed this book so much and I loved all of the characters. It was a really fun, silly, hilarious read. It’s also really strange a lot of the time, but worth the read. There were a lot of unanswered questions at the end, so I am hoping there will be a sequel. The way it ended seems weird for there not to be one.

shadow and bone by leigh bardugo – REVIEW.4.5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
This book…this book…it was fantastic! I am so glad that it was chosen for the book club! So many awesome characters and the story itself was so good! I just did a post about it, so I won’t go into too much detail. Just know it’s a great read, you’ll meet your new book crush, and I recommend it!

Audiobooks:
These are the books that I listened to the audio versions of throughout the month of July.

18879761IMG_9764633966417261134

1306870716058610172424477800188

i was here by gayle forman – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I was here was a great book! I’m glad I was able finally to check it out. There were some parts that were kind of annoying, but overall it was really good. I really enjoyed the characters in the book and I felt like it played out nicely.

after the end by amy plum – REVIEW. – 5 OUT OF STARS.
I wasn’t in any rush to read After the End, but when I seen that the library had it I decided to listen to the audiobook. It was FANTASTIC! I loved this book so much and I am so glad I did. I wasn’t at all sure I would even like it. It didn’t have the best ratings on Goodreads, so my expectations were pretty low, but it blew me away! Can’t wait to read the next book!

hush hush by becca fitzpatrick – 3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
This book was okay, but I honestly did not like the characters that much. So many annoying characters. I definitely thought it was going to be so much better than it was. I felt like nothing was really going on and when stuff finally did happen, it wasn’t that spectacular.

from norvelt to nowhere by jack gantos – 3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
This book was enjoyable and pretty funny. I liked it, but the reason for the three stars is that I liked the first book so much better than this one. This one was a little boring at times, but when it was not, it was really good.

my sister lives on the mantelpiece by annabel pitcher – REVIEW. – 5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I loved this book! I listened to the audiobook, because it’s read by David Tennant. He did such an amazing job reading this book and the story was just as amazing. I highly recommend this one!

whistling past the graveyard by susan crandall – REVIEW. – 5 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I loved Whistling Past the Graveyard SO SO much! It was perfect and it had so memorable characters. The storyline was awesome and played out so well. I love the history told in the book as well and there was never a dull moment.

ketchup clouds by annabel pitcher – REVIEW. – 3 OUT OF 5 STARS.
This book was okay, but it could have been a lot better. I was bored a lot of the time and the characters weren’t that great, in my opinion.

virals by kathy reichs – REVIEW. – 4 OUT OF 5 STARS.
I thought Virals was a great read and very enjoyable. It took a little while to get into everything, but once it did it was really good. I would have liked to know more about the actual virus, but hopefully in the next book it’ll go into that. Still a good book

For August, I think I want to make it a month of novellas and get all of the I Hunt Killers and Dorothy Must Die novellas read. I also want to read The Wicked Will Rise and Blood of My Blood to get those series done.

I am also going to join in a read-along with Bibliophile Gathering and read The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh with them. You can go to their Goodreads group over here to see more about the read-along. Also, if you join in, there is a giveaway at the end! I am really excited to read this book and it’s been sitting on my bookshelf for way too long!

Honestly though, I am going into this month with really no clue what I want to read aside from the above mentioned. I think that happens most months. I have my TBR jar, so I may try to utilize that. I am also really trying to get a lot of the physical and e-books I have read before I go book buying crazy again! I feel like I am never going to finish all of these books if I keep buying or I will never read the books that I really wanted to read in the first place if I keep buying. Most of the books sitting on my bookshelves are books that I REALLY wanted to read, but because I found new books and bought more books, they just got forgotten. sigh.

That’s all for this post though, because it’s extremely long as it is! I hope you all have an awesome weekend! Bye! ❤
