A Court of Thorns and Roses
by Sarah J. Maas
4 OUT OF 5 STARS.

“I was as unburdened as a piece of dandelion fluff, and he was the wind that stirred me about the world.”

I joined in with Josie at Josie’s Book Corner and Stephanie & Taylor at Bibliophile Gathering to read ACOTAR throughout the month of June. It’s still going on, so if you want to join in then you can see more information about it over here.

I was kind of worried about whether I was going to even like the book, because I wasn’t that big a fan of Throne of Glass by Maas. I wanted to give this a chance though, because it sounded really good. I also love retellings, so I wanted to read it. I loved the book!  I love Beauty and the Beast and I love faeries, so this was definitely awesome!

I loved that it instantly grabbed my attention and got right into the good stuff and I was pretty much hooked from the first page. I love Sarah’s writing style and the way she explained things in this book. It was more fast paced than Throne of Glass, that’s for sure. I love fast paced books, so this was perfect.

There was the perfect amount of action and romance, so the romance was not at all overpowering, which I really like. Also, a big thing that I loved was there wasn’t a love triangle! I’m kind of over love triangles, so it was nice reading a book without one! I really loved the worldbuilding in this book and I could really picture everything perfectly. I wanted to jump right in!

There are so many awesome characters in this book; so many! I instantly fell in love with Lucien. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Tamlin in the beginning, but he grew on me and I definitely love him. I can’t forget about Feyre though! She was definitely an awesome character and I felt she grew throughout the book. Rhysand, I wasn’t sure about him. I had a love/hate for him. Sometimes I wasn’t sure if I hated him or loved him.

I was pretty happy with the way that the book ended and I definitely can’t wait to read more of the story!

“Don’t feel bad for one moment about doing what brings you joy.”

Goodreads Description: When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world. As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.

“We need hope, or else we cannot endure.”

  1. I am so glad you enjoyed it! I LOVED Lucien. He was the first character that charmed me. I also really admired how Maas hooked me from the very first page, I was quite surprised to be honest! But Sarah J Maas IS an amazing writer.
I personally like Rhysand and I have a sneaky feeling I’m going to love him.. Eep. I don’t know what it is (I think I have a thing for mysterious, slightly twisted male characters – I’m a cliche 😅
Tamlin grew on my very quickly. It was all the little things he did or say that we’re so cute in my opinion!
    Loved your review. xoxo

    • Lucien was the first character that charmed me too! I loved him throughout the entire book. Even though I wasn’t a huge fan of Throne of Glass, her writing style is definitely really good! I started to like him too after things started to come together in the end. Tamlin said so many cute things…ahh I love him! Haha. 😘

  2. This is a nice review! Makes me really want to jump to Maas now ever since the fuss about her books started. And btw, that’s a cute bookmark! 🙂

  3. Glad you enjoyed it. I liked how there wasn’t a love triangle, but I definitely see one coming in the future.

Also, your Dalek bookmark is on point. 😀

  4. So glad you enjoyed the book! ❤ Lucien was one of my favorite characters, and to be honest, I actually like Rhysand! I just always seem to have a fascination with dark, tortured souls lol. But Tamlin is totally swoon-worthy, and I definitely love him. 😀 Can't wait for the next book!
